I'm pretty sure the event is from the 10th-13th, and if not, 11th-13th.
Maybe not, I think its 9th-13th :): http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/cont...h-to-13th-2014
That would be a 5 day event, at longest it'll be 4 days of actual robot fighting. Says below that details are yet to be confirmed. :)
Didn't think about that LOL, just reading what it said. Next time I'll initiate brain first
The GSL is a 5 day event, but the UK Champs is normally Fri and Sat qualifiers and Sunday finals.
Just looked tentatively into accommodation based on a four-day championship as has been mooted earlier; makes my wallet hurt! At least I know where my March wages will be going
I may have jumped the gun and already booked accommodation. Some peace of mind, anyway - just hoping I get in when the signups are live, now!
Are there any charges when you sign up, does anyone know?
I understand there is a charge per team member but can't confirm it.
I`m checking this thread everyday now, will the sign-ups be announced anywhere else?
We've signed off a few things today and James or I will post up the official information and dates for entry in the next few days :)
I know the event's not officially been announced yet but has anyone booked into accommodation yet and, if so, where?

Castle Bromwich Inn, about 10 minutes away from the venue, good price, place to eat next door
I've booked into the Birmingham Airport Budget Ibis/Etap or whatever it's called. Booked from Wednesday to Sunday, only £187 which isn't that bad at all, really. They've said it's only a short walk to the NEC and that looks about right from the maps, but I'm sure there'll be a bus route around there too...
It's the cost of accommodation that makes me very glad i live in Birmingham, the champs just wouldn't be an option for me otherwise
Any news yet? It's now looking very unlikely that I can get time off work, due to short notice and being the new boy, and the hotel prices are getting ridiculously high.
Team Saint won't make this year either Clive.
I'm sure as soon as the Robochallange team have the information they will pass it on.
I can't make this weekends fun with Robots Live as Becky is going on an outward bound weekend!
Still more time in the garage making bits for the next one.
Why not just book the GSL weekend off? Then when we get the confirm you're good to go, if not then hopefully we'll find out enough time to cancel the holiday.
I appreciate though that accommodation can be a different matter, but some places have pretty open cancellation policies.
Yeh I think I have voiced my opinion on this matter... I was thinking at the very least, if they could just confirm that if we do book hotels and trains etc, but don't get a place in the event, we will at least still get a gadget show pass, so that we don't end up with even more fees to pay ontop =S
If we are going and don't have a place in the event, we'll most likley be using a different hotel all together
With my finances the way they are, I may be sleeping in the car park in the back of my motor :P.
We just need confirmation if it's 3 or 4 days (cheapest I have found for 3 nights is £135, £45 save if it's only 2 nights).
Wait, it's only 3 or 4 days? Whoops, I might have booked 5, starting on the Wednesday... Oh well, gives me time to recoup from the inevitable travel sickness on the first day!
Also, for the record, those 5 nights were for a triple room at the Birmingham Airport Etap, only cost £187 in all which wasn't so bad I don't think!
Unfortunately I wont be able to make it, extremely busy at work and got no time to finish off the build, apart from that flights and hotels are now too expensive to book...will save the money for next year's show ;)
James will be putting some info up any day now - we've only just had official confirmation for everything. But for the record, it will be 4 days, Thursday to Sunday. We don't plan on limiting entry numbers either at this stage.
I'll be watching the forum like a hawk over the next few days then
The only bit I was worrying about. Thanks Grant!
Side question too, if I sign up HardWired II for the main competition, would I be able to bring HardWired I and the prototype one down for whiteboards or whatever too and not enter them into the main competition?
Sweet! Really looking forward to it. I think we're already booked.
I don't think I'll be able to make it this year because I'm not sure on what the work situation will be so thursday and friday are almost impossible for me.
Let's build a little anticipation shall we?
Last years top rankings? The Top10 and all those in the playoffs?
The 6 in the annihilator and their running order until the winner?

If we're doing 10 seeds like last year they should be:
1: Explosion
2: Beauty 2
3: 720
4: NST
5: Beauty 7 ( or 8 )
6: Inertia XL
7: Little Hitter 3
8: Tiny Toon
9: Galactus
10: LS4
Annihilator competitors:
Ricochet
TS3
Binky/Conker 3
No Toy 2
Kaizer
Mini Mighty Mouse/Another flipper
Wonder if there will be 18 seeded machines as there were 18 through to the Sunday.
razerdave,
Galactus finished on 7th place.
Guilherme Ferreira
Guilherme: I wrote that list based on the order the top 10 went out. When you had the losers melee with LS4, Tiny Toon, Beauty 2 and Little Hitter, you were the 2nd robot immobilised, Ls4 was immobile first. Ergo, you got 'seeded' 9th.
Dave, how did Binky and Conker 3 make the Annihilator list? I am confused.
Conker is an unknown quantity still, it could do grea or fall flat on its face, and since it looked kinda complicated, I reckon it would do the latter, but because it should be a decent spinner, it would get selected for the Annihilator (they usually pick 2 spinners, 2 flippers and 2 random others (pusher, axe, crusher, axlebot). Binky, we'll see if it will improve on last year, but again, you may find faults.
Ah, ok, that makes sense.
Since both Conker 1 and 2 have only competed once and will never fight again the name itself is still a wildcard. Conker 3 is a massive improvement in design but will again be like a new machine.
Binky should be able to improve on last years performance without much difficulty. Since 2 of its qualifiers were fought with no weapon it can only really go up. As for the second round it would depend who it was drawn against. Little Hitter was basically the only machine it couldn't hit, any of the others and it could have been a different story.
I guess we will find out in April.
Rango is going to be unreliable as hell. :D
