Whatever happened to this Event, was a date decided.

Hi Dave
It got postponed due to us not having any free weekends. I would still like to do it so may we could look at a November date if people would be interest?
I'm sure there will still be interest, especially now with Hollidays etc. out of the way.
Hopefully people will start posting to express their interest.
DaveMac.
I am interested
I know Dan was pretty keen to have a nosy at your workshop and I'd be up for it.
I'd also bring BitzaWood along.
I'm interested
im defo interested!
Would deffo try to make this event
Very interested, I've been waiting for a date for ages. I would love to bring either Skyfall or Project X, depending on the date.
I would love to come!
Not sure if I will have Endeavour ready though :(
But you will 'Endeavour' to try though right? :p

Its on!!
Im very pleased to announce the Robo Challenge open day(s) and Awards will be on December 8th & 9th! The format has changed slightly to allow some full combat action (we will need some help setting up and taking down :)) and the fee will be £10 per head to cover the costs of putting the event on.
So on Saturday we will have our seminars/talks during the day and awards in the evening. Sunday will be some whiteboard action in the arena and things like CO2 training and tech check advice etc.
Each seminar will be hosted by a successful veteran roboteer and will cover important topics to really spread knowledge through the community. They will not be weight class specific and we will be working closely with each presenter to help them give everything they need to get the most knowledge from them. Each seminar will be roughly 30 mins long and between the sessions there will be time to implement or take note of the points that you feel would best help your team back in our make shift pits area.
As previously announced our first workshop will be held by Sam Smith (Current FW UK Champion). An extraordinary engineer who creates machines that appear to have been formed at NASA. His engineering and design knowhow I feel is the best in our sport, and his ability to create a machine that hits hard yet keeps on going is mesmerising. Sam will be delving into the depths of his designs and creations to really pinpoint what has made his machine successful and reliable. Im certainly looking forward to him giving away his secrets!
As mentioned our workshop is tight on space so please be aware when you arrive. As we will have to scrape together chairs and tables if you have your own that you can bring that would be a big help. Camping chairs are great.
We will provide tea and coffee for all and a few snacks. Please bring a packed lunch for lunch alternatively at star city you can get all sorts to eat and its about 1 mile away.
Lots more details regarding times, seminars etc will be announced soon and sign ups.
Any Robot action on the Sat? Can't make Sunday.
potentially, il have a look into it.
I think Kenny mentioned at one point bringing his BW arena along, but doesn't sound like you guys have much space?
Also £10 entrance fee, do I get a goody bag? ;)
We should have enough space for things like that - however we haven't been contacted about anything like that as of yet. We would need to look into it a lot first as there are a number of things to consider, such as the arena spec and build, operating the arena and all the usual safety things that go with it.
I expect there will be some time for testing in the main Arena on the Saturday after the talks, however we are still working on the exact timescales we have to work with.
Oh, and no goodie bag - I think weeks of organisation, the use of the arena, plenty of knowledge and the expected costs of arena repairs is about as much as we can stretch to for £10 per head
Book your places here :)

What is the post code of where this is being held ?
our workshop, B6 7LA
Seminar 2: Lipos
Our second seminar will be all to do with batteries, specifically Lipos. Grant has a vast knowledge and experience of using lipos in all sorts of applications, from small rx packs to large helicopter packs Grant has been dealing with lipos for many years. He will be covering the benefits and pitfalls of using lipos as well as how to choose the right battery, correct charging, how to know when things are going wrong and what preventative measures we should make when using lipos in combat robots. Its sure to be an enlightening talk with important information which everyone using lipos, or thinking of, can learn a great deal from.
Lots more info to come! as well as some great guests.
Seminar 3: Pneumatics
Im really pleased to announce Kane Aston will be performing a seminar about pneumatics. Kane's experience & knowledge of pneumatics is up there with the very best. Having succeeded with Behemoth both on TV and for many years after, Kanes reliable and effective engineering methods and pneumatic secrets have propelled veteran robot Behemoth through the competition.
This seminar hopes to assist in 2 ways. For people who are either complete beginners or novice teams that would like to take the set up to producing their first pneumatic robot both reliably and safely. We also want to assist veteran teams who have been using pneumatics for some time. Kane has a wealth of knowledge to help teams truly understand how to get the most out of their pneumatics and how to do it reliably as well as giving us some insider info on how Behemoth has stood the test of time so reliably.
On Sunday we will also be doing a CO2 refill session for those wanting to make the step up to high pressure pneumatics.
I am very much looking forward to hearing what Kane has to say and hope his information proves valuble to both beginners and veterans alike.
More information on its way.
Not to mention the skate-park floor :lol:Quote:

Can't make this one as I'll be travelling back from Houston :(
Have fun guys!
nah no 360.... ill get 360 running when you finnish predator..... lol
Good dave! Im expecting it to be running around with everything operating for a test then :)
Shame you cant make it Gary :(
Just working out the overall costs of the trip as we speak, need to have a look at what's needed for the bots at the weekend before knowing for sure though. If I do come, I'll try and get enough time off to facilitate arena assembly/dismantling.
What are peoples' thoughts on accommodation? Just been looking into/working out costs based on various Premier Inns.
maybe not then james lol
fort dunlop travel lodge is ok and not to far away, just around the corner from me....about 10min drive from robochallenge HQ.
Seminar 4: Designing to inspire
Im really excited about this one!
I started this super sport because I was inspired to learn engineering and get involved by seeing my favourite robots on TV, I wanted to do what they did. Like the majority of us it was my favourite robot Razer that really spurred me on. As a fan it was the most awesome thing I had ever seen, the way it moved, the way it crushed robots, the way it had character. I was very fortunate to be invited to join Team Razer as an apprentice when I was young and it wasnt long before I realised Razer was an awesome machine, but just a machine. Inspiration soon turned from the robot to the people behind the robot. It has always amazed me the designs and thought process behind Team Razers creations and the way Ian and Simon go about building things of all kinds of nature.
It is my pleasure to announce that Ian Lewis will be running a workshop at our Robo Challenge Open Day on thinking creatively to inspire others. When I spoke to Ian about this I think he was quite excited to share his ideas with everyone. Ian will delve into the depths of both Razers & Warheads design by going through the principals of the robots and where they find their ideas from. The aim is to share how to think out side the box both with visual characteristics of the robots and engineering techniques in order to inspire and enrol new people both in the audience and in the pits to continue, improve and push the boundaries of what can be done in our sport.
So to round up so far we have -
Saturday
S1 - Sam Smith - Building a robot that lasts & Spinners
S2 - Grant Cooper - Lipos, the myths and the facts
S3 - Kane Aston - Starting with pneumatics & secrets to Behemoths pneumatic success
S4 - Ian Lewis - Creative designing to Inspire
Q&A with all guests
Awards Ceremony
Sunday
Testing day
CO2 session with Kane Aston
Tech Check training with Robo Challenge
Print outs will be proved for all sessions and the seminars will be accompanied by Key note presentations.
I doubt we can come, the cost involved is huge...
If not, I genuinely ask for as much of it as possible to be filmed!
I second the filming... we may be able to make it but it will be difficult.
Don't worry 'bout filming, I'll be there with Project X. Spinners: I'd like to see you try getting through my armour!
Hi Guys
Thats no problem, we will film the sessions and add them to our site afterwards. Our guest will also be there in between the sessions for some one on one help too. We will also get all our guests back at the end for a big Q&A. Any specific questions if you could ask them at the Q&A that would be great as there are probably other people who would like to know the answer too.
Any chance Ian will be bringing his robots?
Potentially, he is looking into it.
