bit mad to think this is what it was like a few months ago.......

Definitely an extensive restoration you've gone to the trouble of doing, looks excellent.
Were the top panels changed purely to upgrade them to Hardox (assuming the old ones were thin-ish steel or something?) or even to change the wheels to something a bit smaller and cover up the holes?
As you mentioned the wheel setup, do they do any good having the wheel cutouts when upside down or were the holes just put these because the wheels were too big?
Think the wheel cut outs were there as the weight was too tight to cover them up
cheers :)
I've started making new lids because the old ones are from series 7 of robot wars and show it lol they are bent and don't fit properly any more either
they were made from 20-20mm box with 1-2mm steel and with that each panel had 10mm poly on the top where as the new ones im making just have a 20-20mm outer box section frame and 3.2 hardox inside with no poly on the top.
im planning on having 10mm poly around the lower outsides as it used to have to hopefully save the base of the chassis taking anymore major damage/impacts as its not in amazing condition- but over all its not too bad
as for the wheel cut outs as matt said i think, and i don't think the wheels where big enough to run upside down. atm im either 125mm blue wheeling it or go kart wheeling it which in the end will determin whether or not any wheels will stick out of the top :)
Think I may be going for blue wheels with BB eventually, save some weight and give me space for buffers
Ahh I see, thats cool :)
Is it going to be ok weight wise with all the additional Hardox then? Having a robot made from 10mm poly, I know it weighs a fair amount too, nothing compared to Hardox but if you're close to the limit it might well add up.
Keep your build diary nonsense to you're own thread Matt
Shall do Tony
They should be ok as the original had a lot more poly on and lambert powerdrive kits etc
yeah i know weights gonna get thrown on lol, on each side where its not vital im going to have 3-5mm ali panels, and especially on the side where i need to access the gas bottle etc, might even have that last section on the almost completed panel made from ali yet.
friday after work im picking up some steel plate to make the upstands on the armour like the original had- thats if i can't find any at work tomorrow lol
Nice one, wish I had a job where the stuff thats getting binned is perfect robot building material
was working on this till late last night, must have spent about 4-5 hours from 6pm onwards making a drive module using a bosch 750, gokart wheel that could just be bolted/welded into the chassis and it was a total waste of time lol - i was hoping it'd be good cause i could just get it all done at home. it would have worked but just took up far too much space and would have only allowed space for a 600g gas bottle :S
so rather then make it fast i really wana make it properly as it'll pay off in the long run
im really gonna have to set the time aside at work to make my bits
progress has been slow so i started cadding up some drive gear boxes other night so that now i no how to i can make em myself at work and spoke to managers about getting some axles made up with keyways on to fit my wheels as cant turn myself. Pics to follow soon hopefully be nice to have it driving for the next expo in nov
got 1 gear box/drive pod done, once i've got my axle made and gears done ill make the other sides once i know the one i've made is all good :)

almost finished gear box just gotta shorten the motor shaft a tad and weld the gear on then i've gotta make the other one!

Is it just going to be a 1 stage gearbox? What's the ratio?
Yeah and its like 4-1 ish, same as what turbulence has got with the same kinda size wheels
Can't believe this has been unfinished for so long! getting it done along with my new feather weight before the champs rolls round again and i have to work on TS3
not much to show atm, been getting the magnets secured in the motors properly thou by making a pair or 10mm ali disks that bold to the casing and through the center of the magnets to eachother.

gonna buy a pair of 6s 5000mah lipos for it to instead of having hawkers as that way i can fit a buffer tank in- will make a lipo case for them too like i did for my feather
havn't got many pictures yet, got top armour panels finished and painted but i've a few more bits to do to the rest of the chassis yet so not going to paint the rest atm
been spending most my spare time at work sorting the boschs out which have been a rite nightmare! there is a light at the end of the tunnel thou i hope! not much more work to do on them now-few pics below

made steel disks then had edd tig weld them together for me to enable the gears to be grub screwed to the motor armature.
more to come soon
This looks really nice. It's nice seeing you put the time into it :)

about time this got finished!
popped round edds today to get things done and with alot of help from him its mechanically not far off.

will do a vid soon as theres something to show :)
Glad to see it nearly there calum! Funny how all the HW's I have ever owned have either come from you, you have had off me or even heavily worked on haha
Awesome robot!¬
Nice to see the old girl back together Callum :) Great work!

I love the built in tool box on the front left, nice touch ;-)
