1. depends on the receiver
2. no
Re: 2.4 ghz - transmitters
Different manufacturers have different methods for connecting transmitters and receivers but the overall method is for the receiver to be bound to a transmitter. Generally the transmitter emits a specific code which the receiver is listening out for when it's turned on. When it gets this signal it will act on the instructions that the transmitter sends.
Different manufacturers 2.4gig radio gear will for the most part NOT work together as they are looking for different codes and use different methods to bind.

Then convert it to 2.4GHz using DIY kits. This allows you to use all the fancy features of a more expensive radio but means you don't have to fork out lots of money to be using 2.4GHz. The conversion process itself is very straightforward and involves drilling a couple of holes and soldering a few wires.
I've used the Corona modules, that Gary has linked to, in the past. But they've not been 100% reliable for me, and since I've used FrSky modules, I've not had any problems. Instant bind, programmable failsafes in the receiver, and nice and cheap :)
The FrSky DIY module:

And 4-channel, 7-channel and 8-channel receivers:

And, if you choose to opt for this method, a few posts from forums that go through the conversion process:

HI which 24ghz-conversion would be compatible with a futaba t6x.
Thanks

Re: 2.4 ghz - transmitters
All should work, they connect to the back of the trainer port, and read the PPM stream. Ive used the FrySky hack system on a Skysport 6 and a 6EXA, with no problems. Would really reccomened these, i bought one of the modules to fit my FF8, which I use on the mechanoid. Never had a problem with range, bind instantly.
