Contra rotating spinners would help with the gyro issues.......
13 black style!
Ok made a bit of progress on the bot. Time to reveal my plans.
I am going for a 13.6kg melty brain style robot. Basically it will translate across the arena by spinning and then adjusting the wheels in such a way that allows it to move whilst spinning (see the team whyachi machines for larger examples).
Robot will be constructed from a 10mm thick 9.5kg hardox disc spun up initially by two speed 900 clone motors. Top speed will be around 2000rpm and it will be held tight to the floor by the use of some beefy magnets. Lipo's as standard of course. Electronics are completely custom and initially the robot will only be able to translate across the arena by spinning.
If this one works out then a second one will be made which will be constructed from a large ring of steel to increase the moment of inertia of the disc. Photo to follow in a few minutes time.
has that actually been done in FW yet? that sounds scary though!
Ok got my camera sorted. Pic of disc and motors for scale.
Looking good. Are you going to be using the open source code I've seen some Aussies developing? Seems promising - especially the LED direction-indicator
I'm using some open source coding yeah. Well initially anyway. This is more of an interest type project for me. I know that boner works well now and can finish in the top ten again and again so I thought I might as well experiment elsewhere. I can also limit it to run at 500rpm and enter it in non spinner events too :proud:
If it works well then I will look to modify the coding to allow it to move around normally and then translate at the flick of a switch
Looking very nice. The concept's been around combat robots for a while and been done, but only by a few machines, and not all of them pulled it off successfully, so it will be interesting to see how yours gets on. And something a bit different is always good. That's my excuse for building a flipper anyway
On a side note, I popped your SSR, that I borrowed at the champs, in the post this morning so should be with you next week (or since it's Royal Mail, you may never see it again :uhoh: )
I did also think it could be upped to a heavyweight and again spin it at 500rpm. Could get a figure of around 4KJ of energy from that alone (or roughly what hypnodisc had when it first came along).
Lol I completely forgot that you the relay :) Thanks :)
I'm glad someone is making a melty brain style bot, should be interesting!
