motor size

Westbourne models should not really list the motor as 900 BB Turbo 12v they are the only supplier to do this, every other site just lists it as a 900 Torque Motor which I think makes it fairly clear that it is a different motor. The deceiving bit is BB Turbo 12v as you only find this on Graupner motors. That combined with the incorrect description is extremely misleading, and I can imagine at that bargain price for what people might think is a Graupner they have sold quite a few.

I would rightly send it back if it's not what you expected and let them know why. If they are decent people then hopefully they should correct the site soon so no one else is mislead.

Thanks for all the info boys. I'm going to be getting a pair as spares at some point, but to get me ready as soon as, I'm getting a speed 900 from Tom Armitage to use. I'm not going to return the Fake 900 because I think it may be a viable weapon motor for my future kilobot

What have you got planned for a kilobot?! Considering that motor takes up almost 40% of the weight limit, you aren't going to have much left for, well, everything else.

Just noticed something while writing my email to westbourne models on my bill it calls the motor a Graupner Speed 900 BB turbo 12v so very deceiving i think

If that's the case then it's false advertising. The question is whether Westbourne Models realises they are not stocking the proper Graupner Speed 900. I've just looked at the site again, and every motor that appears under the 'Graupner Electric Motors' heading has Graupner in the product name, except that one, which is just called '900 BB Turbo 12V'

What I think is particularly deceiving is that the small image associated with the '900 BB Turbo 12V' product description is slightly stretched, so it looks to be of similar size to the actual Speed 900, but when you click on it for a larger image, the bigger image isn't stretched or skewed and you can see that it is shorter than the Speed 900.

Maybe point them in the direction of this thread in your email Alex. Whether they are aware of what they are selling or not, it ought to be changed.

On the 15/01/11 I bought what I thought to be a Graupner Speed 900 BB turbo 12v motor pt no 6373, however after receiving it and asking others within my hobby i am not convinced at all it is a Graupner product. I have bought a few Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo motors before and this one is smaller and weighs over 100g less, compared to the others I have.


After talking with others I highly suspect it to be a:


900 High Torque motor from Caldercraft Electric Motors (CEM).

Nominal Voltage: 12V
Operating Range: 6-24V
RPM at Nominal Voltage: 3000
No Load Current: 0.4A
Current at Nominal Voltage: 5.0A
Stall Current: 20.3A
1/4in plain output shaft



Obviously these figures are no where near the stated ones on your site or the ones I know to be true for the Graupner Speed 900 BB Turbo motor.


For these reasons I would like a refund for the motor, and I will return it to you, the other items within my order are fine and I am happy with them.

after no reply to email phoned them today

explained what the problem is, they know it isn't a real graupner, it is a replica that is meant to have the same stats as a true speed 900 except the rpm is 1000 lower (which is no good to me). so they have 56 on order or something so when the real ones arrive in a couple of weeks my names on the list to get one

so sort of sorted just hope it isn't too long before the real one gets here :?
