thats why i like feathers, as you can use a spinner! it does put a downer on hw championship competitions when not all designs of robots can compete, but i can understand the costs etc.... of an arena. Is that maybe why more of the old robots dont compete anymore do ya think?

funnily enough i had this conversation with someone today. They believed that heavyweights are better because the audience prefer them, and roboteers like it not fighting spinners, and that alot of roboteers dont want to fight spinners.
My point of view is that its not fighting robots or robot wars without full combat.
Thats exactly why I havnt built a heavyweight.
And thats also why alot of people now make feathers, because they can get that thrill of full combat - knowing you can get smashed.

anyways im guessing from eos input that everything is fine with my cluster, and i can just carry one as planned lol

Ive said it before as well, we need heavyweight spinners as much as we need axes, crushers and flippers. In order to have a proper competition all styles of robots should be able to compete.
But not all of the time, people that have been in RW know that repairing robots every week time and time again after every single event is getting old quick. It also is a fact we need as many active robots as possible and destroying them at every event will mean we dilute the numbers even more.
For major events (UK Champs, European champs) I still say we need to find a way to include spinners. But thats not going to be easy.

i dont think so lol

I agree with grant. If heavies were full combat we would have been there. Its more playing at most events, i prefer the thrill of competeing with a machine thats taken blood sweat and tears to build and to watch it do its think and dominate in the arena is a real buzz.

Half the fun of a disc from my perspective is seeing where the problems are with my design, what goes wrong and where to improve.
It is a constant process as discs are so unpredictable in the arena.
Hopefully some day soon we will see heavyweight spinners running again.

Hi Guys,
On the subject of heavy spinners and arenas, from my side i dont think its a problem with the actual arena, its more problems with finding a venue / event that is viable to run it.
If we were to upgrade, it would mean 3 trucks to transport it, or one big one.
It would mean a probable 2 day build which included a forklift and a gang of labour to do it.
Plus a 1 day get out leaving a venue hire of 5 days and the costs which went with it.
And then we come to the actual robots.. would it encourage more to enter? would we end up with no robots as they all get destroyed? do we make an investment of time and money for 2 or 3 spinners to come along, fight and then break.
i remember we had our FW class 2 event and all of the spinners broke early in the competition. Until they are allowed to run, they wont develop, it is a vicious circle.
I dont know what the answer is, its back to... what does the future have in store for us ?? .
John
