Just out of interest Alex, do you not think you may be trying a bit too hard to make it go fast. 30mph is very very fast.
Cylon is fast in comparison to most other robots in the arena and that runs at about 10mph. Boom is again quite fast and runs at about 9mph. The shape and location of the wheels makes a big difference but both are relatively difficult to control, so at 30mph I think you may find something which you cant control in a confined space like the arena.

Not 30 mph mate:proud:. 15 - 20 more like. Where did you get 30 from?
Thanks,

Hunter is quite fast, and a bit uncontrollable (God knows how many times weve hit a curb in testing!)
But still it was made to not be very controllable so that it just hits anything infrotn of it, but still it can evoid hazards quite well.
Its your choice (Id say Hunter goes about 15mph)

Walk into a large woolworths or big W. When I left the UK they had their own brand of cheap drills on sale for around 10 quid.

With 750 rpm drill the top speed was 30 mph at the top of the page is where i got it from. And then you even went on to suggest that youd run them at 1000rpm!!
Anyway, youll get cheap 9.6V drills for a tenner each. Woody posted a link with instrctions on how to modify them. Get the motor mounts and 75mm blue wheels from Robochallenge and overvolt them to 12V or 14.4V and youll have a pretty good drive system which is at the top end of what you can control properly.
