i think its good to have another forum, you see it with all sorts such as car owner clubs etc.... Tony just do what i do and go with the flow, it will only be you who loses out mate. plus we wanna see that new fw of yours in action. u dont need 2 take sides by particapting in 2 forums.
Why is the sport on a self-desruct course?
well 1s already left as tonys gone
only a matter of time for the next
It isnt. Unfortunately some issues do seem to exist between event organisers and between some individual roboteers. My understanding is also that the impartiality and function of the FRA is doubted (or perhaps misunderstood, depending on your perspective or opinion...) by some teams.
Tony, its your choice, but if you withdraw from events the loss will be to the community as a whole and to your team- Im afraid it wont help change anything.
My suggestion- naive though it may be- would be to organise a meeting with representatives of as many teams attending as possible to discuss things openly. If commercial considerations make event organisers unwilling to discuss business matters in that context I would suggest that they organise a meeting mediated by a member of the community accepted as neutral by all parties. Apart from making for a happier community I think this would be in the interests of the organisers themselves.
Our sport will continue despite these squabbles, but it would be better they were resolved- all events will be affected if divisions and cliques become entrenched. I should note that my present response to it all is to simply attend whichever events I want to, irrespective of organiser. Thankfully I know little about the details of any specific disputes, although inevitably various conversations have given me a general idea.
As far as Daves resignation from his FRA post is concerned, I agree with Woodys earlier post.
Shane, if you think the backroom is meant to just make wild accusations or blackening of the FRA, consider this:
When you asked a question on the FRA forum that the FRA did not seem fitting to ask on a PUBLIC forum your post got removed there. Had there been a backroom or similar setup on the FRA forum itself you would not have had that problem.
The whole backroom concept is a good one, but can be used for bad things when you are not carefull. On the other hand, would you rather have Daves message and Andys e-mail plastered over a PUBLIC forum for the world to read?
I can not for the life of me see why a tool that works so well on other forums would not work for the FRA. This implies a serious distrust between the members already making wild accusations as to its contents without even reading it. And its not that they cant read it, all it takes is 1 email.
And Stu, instead of flying of the handle like that to me on MSN, first get your facts straight.
I am a DRG and therefore by default also a FRA safety officer. I saw things that could not be fixed at the event but had to be addressed. I have used the FRA guidelines, filled in a FRA form and presented my findings to the FRA and Jonno, and I have been confirmed I had valid issues.
Just because you enjoyed the fights (as did I) it does not automatically make it a good event by all criterea. there where some things wrong, and I have been assured by Jonno these things will be delt with. That is all I want.
Why did I not send this to Stu privatly? well he blocked me on msn and there is no backroom. But he is accusing me of (REMOVED BANNED WORD) stirring, and I will not have my integrity questioned for doing my job.

I thought this thread was about Dave Lang€™s resignation but turned into a dispute about forums, so I might as well join in!
Personally I think that it is fair play for they€™re to be two forums and a facebook group and probably a myspace one as well! But I have to say, it is really annoying going on both forums to see what is happening in the roboteering world.
I have not joined robot forum yet as I cannot be bothered with more passwords and user names etc. so in turn now miss out on a lot of the stuff going on in the backroom.
I have not joined the facebook thing as most of it is slating my robots or my dad, naturally I think it is discussing, but I accept freedom of speech and ignore most of the rubbish that goes on there.
And as for Tony, I was looking forward to seeing your new feather in action but I understand where you are coming from.

email can be ignored to easily. If the FRA wants to remove my postings thats their progative but my statement on the matter is made. for me this issue is closed.
Leo, you are treading on fine ground also, If you hate the FRA so much then I suggest you use another forum to slag of the FRA, As stated many times we only edit/remove posts when nessasary (or a compaint has been made) and Ive asked openly for people to provide evidence to the contry so I can investigate and have recieved nothing that does not have a good reson behind it.
Some of these matters are personal and you are just sticking your nose in where it does not belong. As for your other comments on Events and the like, I agree that it needs to be highlighted when things can be improved and you should not need to defend yourself if others give you greef. Personally I think that more forums is better for the sport if used correctly, there is no reason that the FRA forum has not got a backroom and if you feel that it would be better then you can ask the FRA by Email to bring it up at the next meeting.
