That is a very grippy solution, but then again Vulkalon only has the same amount of grip as the BLUE wheels. although more grip can be obtained due to making wider wheels. The only problem with that is that it costs alot to do. Plywood wheels with bycicle tyres have been used quite often and work well of done properly. They give alot of grip in the arena.

We solved the grip problem on the wheels of TAN by screwing on motorbiketire rubber on the HDPE hub, with a lot of small selftapping screws.
But this seems only a reasonable on big diameter wheels, as the rubbers isnt happy ,and wont lie down perfect. On a big wheel the lumps arnt a big problem, but on small ones its bad.

Grant,
What are the BLUE wheels your are refurring to?
I assume Vulkalon is expensive then!

It costs about 10pounds to cover a featherweight wheels, I am not sure if thats per wheel or per pair but it gives better grip than the blue ones that are sold by rc wars.
Also it looks much better than the blue ones.

Ian, the Blue wheels are the same material as Vulkalon. But if wheels are to be Vulked, then the hub will need to be made from metal yourself. The blue wheels are the same wheels that Razer , warhead and many featherweights use. They supply plenty of grip for feathers.

Yes grant that may be true but the blue ones dont give as much grip imho

Small grippy wheels
if they are the same material how can they be less grippy?
I think the blue looks better

Because you can have less sure (i think thats the right word). Basically although they might be the same material there all slightly different. Look at the latex on football gloves, thats all slightly different. Also Graphite and Diamond have the sma molecular forumla but are totally different.

Ian,
Do you know the sure value of a blue wheel? Last time I spoke to you, you hadn€™t ever picked up a blue wheel, so I don€™t know how you know all that now? I agree with Gary, I think a blue wheel looks far superior to a roll of cellotape.

Ian, the word you wanted to use is shore and thats the value of softness in elastic materials like rubber. The lower the value, the softer the material, and the more grip- usualy- it has.
