Re: Axe Related Questions.
That all sounds good. I don't think you would need 3 of those batteries- one should last a fight.
I presume you mean 30 shore banebots wheels not 30 shore botbitz
I would try and go for thicker steel armour or hdpe or aluminium armour instead- I don't think 2.5mm steel would hold up against spinners. You could go for 15mm hdpe for the same weight.
But it sounds like a pretty good robot!
What will you use for an axe motor?
Re: Axe Related Questions.
stupid phone not submiting my last post.
It was something like.
Yes, sorry I did mean banebots (I am very easily mixed up)
As for the armour, I am unsure of what it will be as 15mm HDPE adds 3cm to the sides of the robot which is probably best avoided.
I am hoping for steel just because it looks cool....... and its strong.
Might try jigsawing it with a 32TPI blade and some sort of lubricant at a slow speed but I was hoping to leave armour to the last stage of the planing dependant on the weight cost and size.
And since last night I have changed my mind on the drive motors!
These ones

Though they stall at just over 10amps more, a botbitz tz85a should have no problem with these.
I can also use my drill gearboxes and wheels on them.
I can also get some R/C motor heatsink

Lastly I was concidering using some rs-775's as my axe motor 865 RPM 40-50 nm on the tip of the sledgehammer. Although im not sure steel and sledgehammers are usually underweight.
I would mainly like to see some opinions on the change of motors.
Good Bad Stupid?
Thanks
Sorry for this really long post

Re: Axe Related Questions.
Why bother paying to import the banebots motors when the gimsons are essentially the same thing?
With regards to the wheels, go for the 40 or 50 shore wheels. The 30 ones are too soft for our uses. I'm speaking from experience.
When working with steel, get yourself an angle grinder. Read up on safety when using one and spend the extra cash getting proper eye and ear protection.
Re: Axe Related Questions.
the gimsons look great quality and power.
how many other bots run 5s GR-02s?
Re: Axe Related Questions.
I'm running 18v motors from GR on a 5 cell.

Re: Axe Related Questions.
I made a table comparing the banebots rs-540 and the 12v GR-02
Re: Axe Related Questions.
Did you take into account the delivery charge and 20% import tax on the banebots? The advantage they had was that it was easy to use the banebots hubs without modification however you can use the hubs that ewan just put online.
Re: Axe Related Questions.
Technobots will do a custom bore of 12mm on the Banebots hubs now. Ok they end up costing £10 each but I can't see you ever having to replace them even if the shaft got bent or something like that.
Re: Axe Related Questions.
GR-02 s will do as well as a speed 900 both on 12v.
and sorry Gary I didn't include the import tax
Re: Axe Related Questions.
Lol don't apologise. Just something you need to keep in mind
