Yes, have them set further apart. As you have designed will make the thing struggle to turn, it would be a nightmare to drive. If your setup is like this:
(|| being the wheels and IIIII= the motors!)

IIIII=|| ||=IIIII

Then you could just flip it, to make:

||=IIIII IIIII=||
