Nah thats Katjuscha. :)
dba?
DBA: Antweight World Series 18 winner, 3rd place AWS 19, always been a highly destructive force in Antweights (I ought to know, mines been on the receiving end !)
My ant, Katjusha (pic on profile) is based on DBA, and the new DBA is based on Katjuscha. :)
Nice one Gary, your feather is the same width or more than most heavies - looks like its gonna be a beast :)
If I can fit my proposed crushing claw into your old Hornet chassis, well need to get a lil match-up going after Easter (provided I get it finished over Easter). Dont need to worry about safe arenas or anything, my room exceeds the safety baseline for running spinners (cos it has solid concrete walls and a concrete roof - cant get more protected than that)
(Only problem being the drivers pods are integrated into the room without any separation - Ill get disclaimers drawn up :lame:)
Damn, too many smilies in this post for this early in the morning :) (oops, just added another)
Am I the only one that thinks the teeth on Hornet 2s disc are way too small? :uhoh:
hmmm

Ill be honest, that thought had breifly crossed my mind too.
As long as they are long enough to clip another robot then I am happy. Whilst it may be a spinner I would rather just flip other bots with it to give the crowd something that looks good without doing much damage to an opponent.
I did a few calcs as well and with the speed that it will be going at, I wont get much of a cutter bite when I hit an opponent so making them large is pointless.
If it turns out to be a problem I can always see about getting another disc :)
Thats the flywheel made out of? Just looking at the size of the teeth, I was more be worried about them breaking off... But of course, you dont need big teeth like these http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/Cobrarobotics/Raiden/DSC03603.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/DSC03603.jpg but something that is built strong and has plenty of material backing the impact point, like this http://buildersdb.com/botpics/906.jpghttp://buildersdb.com/botpics/906.jpg
its a solid one piece hardox 650 disc 8mm thick. The teeth are 2cm in width and have 2cm in material attaching them to the disc. I will see how they handle impacts during testing. I can always weld some small hardox plates behind them.
actually after a bit of thought I may get JL steel services to make me a new disc when I get them to make the forks for my new heavyweight. A solid support at the back of the teeth and far more of the weight at the edge of the ring. Not quite so artistic but more effective :)
Web site now updated with new featherweight DragonMaster http://www.teamdragon.org.ukwww.teamdragon.org.uk
Did you run out of dragon names Tony? :)
Video of axe working http://www.teamdragon.org.ukwww.teamdragon.org.uk
bottom of Dragonmaster page:mrgreen:
looks good, what voltage is that on? 12v? no way a scooter motor powered anything should be that slow on 24v :p
will have to finish up that lightweight ive been doing for a while. two of the 300w size motors (next step up from those) at 36v powering a 6kg block splitter. first test i sure as heck new the colour of fear :uhoh:
They are on 24v but they are old batterys putting some new ones in today. Also was not pushing the speed controler too much as it is only rated at 15amp.
Did not help much so I shortened the Axe a lot better. Was going to film it but it is p----- it down at the moment.
Not just here its raining then! lol.
Mr Stu
Dragonmaster finaly finished pic on profile. :)
Got a hell of a lot done at the weekend. Latest pic of hornet 2 on profile. Only got to mount magmotor, mount drills at the back and sort out the pulleys between the mag and disc.
Just out of curiosity, what is the leeway on the weight limit at events? I am sure I can remember a figure of 5% but I want to make sure as I have a feeling i will be close to the 13kg mark. I will probably have to replace the polycarb on the front and machine some holes in the disc supports.
Damn thats looking nice !
Better get into action with my drum bot , done nothing to it in weeks
It is 2%, meaning you have 12 kg 250 grams on the scales.
Things to save weight on: size, armored air, the disk supports and a lot on batteries (if you want to use a mag S28-400 youll want to feed at least 18V)
Go for polypro over polycarb on the front and mill out the disc supports a little. No wheel protection? :)
I think I need to do a lot to my robot to bring it down in weight, because my side/back/front armour comes to about 2kg, my axe mech 3kg, and the lid I am uncertian, and the bot weighs about 6-7kg already!
Looks good tony, shame to scratch up the lovely paint job. Gary that thing looks scary.
Ewan, I have decided to go for mobility instead of protection. I dont really want to get jammed up against a wall with nowhere to move.
Adrian, I am afraid of it!
As a rule of thumb, robots with powerful wepaons dont tend to get away with being over the weight limit at all, but even if it is there are robots that will still fight it out side of the main competition (whiteboard) fights. Little spinner wouldnt mind a go. 2 MAG powered spinners against each other :) that would be interesting.
Certainly would be mark :)
gary, are you revealing what sort of weight you have in that disk and your rpm. My disk is just over 2 kilos,(horizontal not vertical) hardox 650, no idea of rpm yet! its still in build, hoping to be completed by end march.
What normally happens with the art work on my robots is that every body trys to be the first to scratch it. It makes for a intresting first minute to the fight.
Hi Guys
Pure Evil is finished at last...pic on profile Big Tone....what are ya gonna tether ya axe with on dragon master ???
Roll on easter..
Cheers
Dam these axes look a bit nasty. Any idea what they will penetrate chaps?
Adrian, 2kg and I have still to decide on rpm but it will be from 3000 to 4000.
Gary, they might even put holes in a few layers of paper, could possibly even manage cardboard. You dont need to armour the top of you robot, especally around the speed controller :).
-2>One day someone might even belive me, but seriously 5mm steel/polycarb/polypro will still get punchured, best just to avoid the axe!
Gary not much as I have got the freindly head on not the full combat one. I would go for 4000 rpm on your disc. On DragonStrike it runs at about 4000rpm and it does damage Hardox 400. It was getting about half way through 4mm hardox per hit. :proud:
lol no worries mark, I know that you can puncture 5mm poly. You put a big crack through hornets polycarb top at the uk champs last year :)

but seriously 5mm steel/polycarb/polypro will still get punchured
Hmm, I think Ill be keeping Kaizer and its 2-3mm ali chequerplate chassis to the whiteboards for the moment :lame:
Tony - at XFM spooktacular dragonstrike went 3.4mm deep into my hardox scoop, and that wasnt in the corner! Although I was driving at it full speed.
Ouch...Pure Evil looks devastating...so does Dragonstrike...are all these robots on acid or something?!
