Looks very good ewan - seemed to work very well!
Only improvement i can think of would be to put some rollers towards the front of the robot so that it drives a little easier when youve grabbed some-one.
We found your wheel that little spinner took off when we packed the arena away :) did you want it back?
-
Featherweight Database
I saw that fly out and bounce under the arena, i assumed you picked it up, but guess not hence grant found it. LMAO!!! Was good fight thought.

Cheers Jamie
Hmm front rollers, thats the thing with a one day build... you never get round to doing the little things (and you dont get any sleep! Im hopefully not doing that again any time soon, lol)
lol dont worry Grant, I knew it was under the arena, I saw it fly there as with Stu but had plenty of spares :) If you still have the wheel around I wouldnt mind you keeping it on the side till the next event :). Im looking forward to seeing your videos Grant!
All the best

Drum teeth are angled the wrong way, but otherwise a decent design to be starting with.

i just knocked it up for the robowars event. the drum never stops and it hits so freaking hard. had some slight build quality issues (XD such as the teeth bending cause the welding was garbage and the frame exploding itself).
drives didnt work properly so i need a new set. alas should be good when i fix her up for the next event with some A123 cells and that 5330 brushless .
btw ali, you need to pull those castors right up beside the drum. itll rock fowards non stop like that. and id give yourself more clearance on where the pulley goes.

Hmm, seems the time of the drumbots is here :)
Name: Drumroll
Drive: Two 9.6V drills @ 12V on to 100mm blue wheels
Controller: Two 50A Speed Controllers
Weapon: Drum (obviously! :P) driven by friction drive from a drill - keeping it simple for my first spinner - but will upgrade later once I have a better understanding of forces involved etc
Armour: Poly base, either hardox or ali sides, poly top and hardox slopey bit
Status: Designed (see profile) and currently sitting as a pile of parts (minus the drum)
Notes: Called Drumroll because its a drum....that rolls....plus Im a drummer - seemed fitting :)
Still need to work out the best way to manufacture the drum, and work out what bearings to use etc but it can easily function as a 2WD wedge/rambot until then.

Better get my drumbot finished or it may become out of date.
Pic on Profile.
Its all dont minus wiring the weapon and getting suitable batteries and a charger.
Hopefully i can get it done and out on the circuit this year(touch wood and cross my fingers)

+1>2007 : Year of the Drums
@Chris: Didnt spot the teeth on the drum - good call
@Glen : I didnt steal your idea i was mearly inspired :proud:. Will tell Tony to move the castors up closer and perhaps out a little bit to stop it tipping ? Dont quite get what you saying about the pulley though :S.
Im pretty happy about the design. Drums seems to be an area not explored really in the UK but there is now a sudden explosion of them :P. Im also happy about the aussie robot Reboot wining Robowars 4 cause its using the same 100 watt motor for the weapon that I am

Ill be honest and say I didnt think much of drumbots in the past. Then I came across Team Mad Cows website, read some reports and watched some vids and realised theyre actually pretty cool (and effective!) especially if all the factors (such as speed and strength) are spot on.
2007 : Year of the drums indeed :proud:

humm.. really Conundrum came before Glen and co. but I wont admit its the first uk featherweight drum bot either. Its successor Conundrum Mk2 has a 2kg drum powered by an Ev Warrior, I tried going for bars at first but found they wasnt to my liking not enough damage and didnt really get the pop I wanted. No ive got four sets of sharp blades which are proving to be much better.
@Alistair : I was joking about the teeth, they are only facing the wrong way when the robot is inverted lol, if you look at the CAD then imagine the bot has been flipped over you should see there fine hehe!

@ Jamie : I was the same with Drumbots , thought that they were not that destructive . Then i see Team mad cow and Im like wow :proud: . Another good Drum bot is Helios made by http://www.teamcosmos.comwww.teamcosmos.com
@ Chris : I understand you now about the teeth lol . Have you got any pics of your bot ? Dont ever remeber seeing any.

Just a quick pic of the pile of parts lined up for Drumroll (minus the batts and drum):
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/ayrshirerobotics/dr_partslayout7.jpg?t=1169077333http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...yout7.jpg?t=11 69077333
Having just discovered that Technobots are shortly gonna be selling a new motor as a replacement for the feather gold, I might change to that to power the drum, because I dont see a friction drill motor cutting it in the arena much (perhaps in the cadet class but with Drumrolls chassis having hardox armour that kinda scuppers those plans)

Future Featherweight, donno when it will be finished:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89/Flippt/Accident20075.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89...ident20075.jpg
18V drive and 2400mAh NICD sub-C cells.
still Unsure if Ill use a Hammerdrill motor or not for the weapon.
Armour; 5&10mm HDPE.
Weapon: 180mm diameter Hardox 650 disc, about 1:2 ratio.
Numbers of screws: Over 60 of them!
weight: (In CAD) ~11kg
Other notes: Its invertable, needs wedges, and one of the few Swedish Featherweights.

Well was just about to rebuild DragonStrike. I will leave it as is now. It would have looked like pic on profile.
-
Featherweight Database
Latest pic of what hornet 2 will look like on profile.
Weapon - 2kg vert disc powered by a 3hp magmotor
armour - 4mm ali and 5mm polycarb
drive - 18v motors overvolted to 24v
speedos - electronize and a victor for the mag
weight - no idea
It will get built no matter if there is an arena to hold it or not. Obviously I dont battle as often as many others on here so it is not a huge concern to me. Then again I built swarm when there was no arena to hold it and was told I was mad. It was still accepted into the UK champs, just a shame it never span :)

Its only been tested on grabbing an lifting one robot so far, and thats RIP. Which i dont think you will know of Chad, but its prob the UKs biggest Feather Weight and prob just over 12kg LOL. And it can lift that 500mm clean into the air right over my own wheels to move about easily to do what i want to him. LOL. Claws are made from Hardox so me hopes they will stand a big of punishment, but i dont think ill go head to head with a Horizontal spinner with the claw, thats what the front folks and hardox area is for. hehe.

typical had a bit of first combat trouble at the weekend. First the gyro was turned up too much and wouldnt go anywhere then 3 seconds layer got flipped out by Little Flipper, now with Buffer tank, its awesome now more than before, nice on LF2! Then later one of the motor mounts came lose so no traction on left side so just span in cricles, damn! Looking forward to Brighton for some practise! LOL!

Latest picture of hornet 2 is on my profile. After looking at it in the flesh when cutting the aluminium panels at the weekend i decided to add an extra 10cm each side so it is now 75cm wide. Armour is 4mm ali and weapon supports are 10mm. Will either put 2mm steel or 10mm polycarb over the front depending on weight.
Still got a lot to do but hoping to have it done by the end of the easter hols.
