Our day at Robochallenge has inspired us to build a spinner. The quality of the feathers has improved so much. Bigconkers will try and make one before the next champs. And hopefully we will get delivery of the spinner motor very soon.
james- nah rebuilding it, the new one will look almost the same but have a self righter and the front end will be slightly different, gonna build it all out of the same materials and parts but do the bulkheads at work rather then a shed so i can get some pockets in there to loose some weight etc
and i no some people stand by drills but i wouldnt use them again now in full combat as mine didnt seem to agree with all the shocks and hits etc ones got a crack in the plastic casing, will upload a few pics wen i take it apart sunday
how were your drive motors mounted?
Sounds good Shane! Predator has a couple of new speedos coming, just trying to sort out the motor as it seems there was a defect due to the case and windings not being correctly bound. Kane said on the video you can see sparks from the motor when it first spins up. I guess when it hit the wall that really gave it some beans!
Very impressed by TS2! And as Alex said, a single Speed 900 can clearly deliver the goods in the right setup.
Inspiring.
Also regarding the drills, yeah sounds like it may be the way they're mounted? We split a gearbox or two in Tormenta earlier in the year but we learnt from that and with Tormenta 2 (thus far) we haven't had any issues at all with the gearbox cases, and we got some pretty serious shocks at MMM. Plus the nature of the weapon is hardly light on the drive.
Think more should try mounting drills as we did. Works well.
Need to start thinking about robot #3 for next year! Still wish I could have attended this.
they were mounted in the bulkheads on robochallenge mounts, but i think if the motors were supported at the back they may have been ok, but going for new motors now anyway and the drills i used for the drive are making my self righter! Weighed it at work earlier without batteries and alltogether it weighed 11.375 kg
Kane has announced the winners of the 2012 FRA Awards, please find the results here

Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners!
Are the talks online anywhere yet?
Pretty keen to see them! Cheers.
Hi PJ
Just going through the videos and editing. Should be up in the next few weeks :) Already looking into the next one.
