De = The
Biel = Axe in a dialect
Debiel = nitwit, moron, idiot.
Its a Dutch wordjoke. And as with all wordjokes, if you have to explain them, there not funny anymore. :)

Just when I thought I was being clever!
Biel..that must be some dialect.. I couldnt find any reference to an axe!!
nearest I found was Biels... Railway sleepers!!
Throws large Nederlands/Engels/Nederlands woordenboek in the bin!!
I knew it was a mistake to try to learn this language! :uhoh:

LOL I bought a Dutch phrase book to help me with Dutch. They spell things how they are pronounced. I bought it only to find somone who is dutch who can help me cant even pronounce the words in it. I stand know chance really then!
-
Featherweight Database
The correct dutch word is Bijl. Biel is more boers if you will. the pronouncition would be something like bayl and the dialect version beel.
-
Featherweight Database
With you now Leo, just let me get the hang of proper Dutch first before dropping coloquial Dutch on me too!!
Or by boers do you mean it has an Afrikaans origin.
Sorry to go on, but Im genuinely intrested in the language and this is the sort of thing you dont find in formal textbooks.
-
Featherweight Database
boers means like a farmer so not standard language :-)
And Geoff, youve got it wrong way round. Afrikaans is from Dutch origin, with some English and German influences.
-
Featherweight Database
I understand now.. Thanks Leo.
-
Featherweight Database
Hehehehe.. all this for a name...
It was kind of hard to translate the joke to english.. I couldnt find a good equivalent. Im open to suggestions :)

Perhaps Plank might be close?
plank - an idiot, fool. e.g. You complete plank !. Derogatory
NOT to be confused with ...plank - derogatory term for Afrikaner (derived from an older insult, An Afrikaner sounds as thick as a plank (ie, very stupid) when he speaks English)
-

Plank is his other feather.

Starting to get Vertigo ready for the champs - Ive fitted a new actuator in for the lifter. It will be lifter only for the champs as the weight isnt there for must-have additional armour otherwise. The actuator is just about as pacy as the last one but packs in ~120kg of force (the other being a comparetively miserable 40kg) and as a bonus is a couple of hundred grams lighter.

http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo2/IMG_3380.jpghttp://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo2/IMG_3380.jpg
Ive got four small 600mah 13.2v packs I got off Ebay a while back (£4.00 for the lot, cant argue with that!) that Ill make up into 26.4v packs to feed the lifter with some more juice.
http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo2/IMG_3378.jpghttp://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo2/IMG_3378.jpg
Ive also finally finished the needed gearbox mod for the drive motors. Theyre all steel gears now and Ive got the outer shell of the planetary gearboxes nicely aligned this time. Ill get round eventually to sticking some fans on the motors to help reliability while the sidewinder current limit is off.

Ill clad this monster feather with a variety of armour compounds to stand up to the undoubtedly tough competition at this years champs. Random pics:

Looks great Ewan. Should be fun.
-
Featherweight Database
Does running it soley with the lifter impair the self-righting capabilities at all?
-
Featherweight Database
Im impressed Ewan.
Build quality looks excellent. I always have liked lifters.
Good luck for the UK champs!:)
-
Featherweight Database
Cheers :)
Re Jamie: not after Ive finished with it :)

told u at RIAT Ewan its cool, wish u the bets mate in the uk champs, your robot jus proves theres so much u can do in 12kg, thats not a criticism on the other feathers im increasingly impressed by feathers, jus ewans new vertigo is very impresive
-
Featherweight Database
There is alot more that can be done in 12kg than there is at the moment, but it can get costly! I like to see robots like ewans that can be made without spending a fortune!
(hopefully soon enough there will be another 3 or 4 feathers of different styles comming into combat-watch this space!:))

I was going to say thats a robot I want to avoid, but then I am bound to be drawn against it. Doh! said it anyway.
Looks really good Tony, cant wait to see it in action, (go easy on me).

PAIN IN THE ASP
Inevitable 6 wheel drive with a high speed electric lifter.
Featherweight version of the US heavyweight Sewer Snake that came over for the UK Champs.
Thanks to Matt & Wendy Maxham for their permission to copy the design.
Im still putting drawings on paper at the moment, but drive will be Astroflight 40 / Whyachi TWA40 gear boxes, control.. pair of victor 885s and lifter may well be powered by another Astroflight mated to some kind of multistage very high ratio gearbox. Then build all of that in 13.6Kg.... Now thats the hard bit!
Its already signed up for San Francisco next June so I gotta get a move on!
-
Featherweight Database
i guess your sure the weight limit is going to rise then?
Sounds good, but wont the astro get quite warm in a lifter?
-
Featherweight Database
Go Geoff :o)
PS - I have an Astro and a Gearbox for sale ::)

Featherweight weight increase..Er..No..Well Maybe...depends... some delicate negotiations are underway.... Watch this space!!
This is a special for the US Being built to RFL specs. although I think I could just about squeeze it into 12KG if I had to!!
-
Featherweight Database
Dont worry John, knowing Mario you will have plenty weight left to beef up Beaty, even at 12 kgs.
-
Featherweight Database
cool :) she is under weight any way ;)

Were working again on Kashei Bessmertnye.
Mario made the wheels today, we have the motors for them, the new radio-set is underway, the most important part for the weapons system is already in da house i.e. the weapon itself...

Picture of the revamped Vertigo up on my profile now.
Now with externally mounted 100mm wheels moved further forward than previous ones for better balance. Drives like a dream.
Separate linear actuators for grab and lift.
