solidworks is the best imo
http://www.emachineshop.com/machine-sho ... ge100.html
Easy to use, good for 3D and 2D, but you carnt do 3D assembly drawings which sucks..
im trying to get solidworks now... if someone can suggest a good easy way to get it id appreciate it... i tried a torrent but i carnt get it to work :(
No Mac version :(
ive used solid works and Auto Desk inventor pro. Both are very similar however we can do alot more with our pro Inventor. Would definitely recommend it.
solidworks use to be really easy to get a 'free' copy off .....off their own website but they have closed that loop hole and everything has been tightened up a 1 yr student license cost me with shipping and import £130 :x
I tried to get auto desk inventor pro (at a cost of £50) but I don't have access to a computer powerful enough to run it. So I'm stuck here with pro desktop.
been playing with solid works thanks to dennis for sorting me out...

the render features are pretty cool... going to try get a pretty decent cad model of this robot before anything gets made.
galactus is looking good :P
sorry  nah its awesome
the render features have definitely improved between the 2011 and 2012 versions
Harry, Go back to your drill motors and chopping board.
Not seen much of the 2012 version... i think what ive done is a really bad example to what can be achieved, im pretty rubbish at CAD to be honest... a bit more practise needed :)
well solidworks is the easiest by far to learn imo after using , pro desktop and alias both of which are complicated just for the point of it lol
looks good though so far

still waiting on components from robot market place.. going to Kennny's to machine to drum in the next few weeks, then ill order up some alumec for the chassis.
What's with the 3 motors and gearboex, and 4 sets of wheels? Spares?
isnt 1 of em 4 the weapon ?
Nah spares, spare set of wheels and a spare motor gearbox...
The weapon motors the bigger version of what's in your rc buggy terry... Castle creations 2200kv neu motor. Whenever it turns up lol
got some serious power then dave, I read the post wrong 1st time and thought you ment
the drive motors were bigger than the 2200's   that would be insaine :!:
wonder how fast it would be though.
So how come those 550 motors have so much power, they don't look like anything special?
There not... Kenny just got his weight distribution right, plus having 4wd helped.
Mine aren't 550's there 775's :) fair bit more powerful.
Wow, that's impressive. Drive has never been something me and Dan could get right, and this year was a total disaster for it!
brushless escs came from australia today, so i wired them up to give them a go...
Wasnt confident they'd be any good, but gotta give it to the aussies so far all good, and there tiny...only just double the size of a BR RX;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/5cdeac81.jpg
there hacked brushless tz85 turnigy escs... 85amp forward/reverse... slammed the motor into full forward/reverse and it worked fine on the bench... in theory nearly all brushless escs can be hacked to run forward/reverse brushed motors apparently... could be the next generation of speed controllers for anything upto heavyweight size in the future.
Hacked Brushless escs? Well I'm glad people are trying something different!
I thought brushless escs were much more expensive than brushed escs? Why hack a more expensive to esc to make a less expensive esc? How much did it cost?
For the amperage brushless ESC are usually much less expensive and much smaller. But generally only go in one direction.
Material for my drum, in background is some more material to be used on some slightly more gay robots;

Decided you cant have that material for drum now.
Or could machine it in to a present for his mum ???
lol!
Lol, when you over in Leeds mate me n Tom try get your material up to kenny so he can get it done for you
Kennys busy this weekend doing s10, im on holiday for a week monday, so will be when im back in the country i guess mate. Can come up on the 26th if Kenny isnt busy.
Come up this weekend and show me what you want doing to the drum and i'll have it done when ya get back from holiday
have you got a link to these ESCs?Quote:

Unibody, single tooth drum? Looks like a snail from the side, hence name.
Would the 25A botbitz controller be enough for a gimson motor? What if it ran off 24v?
A 25a ESC for a single Gimson should be fine, but that particular ESC is rated to just 4s, or around 14-15v. I doubt it would much like 24v.Quote:

Works in my mind but alot of moving parts so to speak
Do you think the hacked tz85 would be up to 900's under load ?
Also , out of interest, what size wheels and gearbox ratio will you be running?
Depends on a number of things, mainly voltage, but if you're being sensible and follow the specs they're giving you I would say it would.
Just look through the Australian forum and check out what they're running off these escs peeps
PJ- nope, 2 tooth drum machined from a billet with bolt on teeth.
Drums being machined by Kenny soonish hopefully.
Drum machined...weighs just over 3kg, will be going around 15000rpm.... just need to machine some bulkheads out of some alumec next....that takes effort though.
