22g? So the product description is only just over Twice as heavy as it should be!
Do you use them in your ants Dave?
I hope they're good, £50 is quite a sting!

yep, mine was well worth it untlil i blew it up
does anyone know a good website to get brushless motors suitable for a spinning drum?
PJ: I use them in Bulletproof and Kill-a-chav and I have helped to make several other robots that use them and no complaints thus far. In fact I beleive Jonno uses them to power the 5KG Battle Ratz
Push-n-shove: Try Micron RC, they have quite a few good brushlesses.
Ok thanks, I'll have a look :)
I dunno about suitable, but I'm giving this website a good search;

Is it the Australian forum that already has a well established Beetleweight category?

Do you reckon the 30a would be up to much?
Those are uni-directional controllers
I think the weight they show on Technobots is the packed weight, so that might include a fair few pieces of packing foam, or plastic bags or whatever. But a weight saving of more than 50% is no bad thing :)Quote:

Hopefully it is the same with my motors and wheels. I realised it says they weigh 160g each and the wheels 140g each. Bit too heavy. :)
Hang on, wait, what parts are you using?!
My wheels weigh 13g each and motors about 72g
my wheels weigh 100g together and the motors are about 70g
Using these. :)Quote:

It seems a bit weird but the only thing I can think is that the 12A model is superseding the 10A model so perhaps it now costs less to make the controllers than it did a few years back when the 10A one first came into production, and they've found lighter ways of making them? Who knows :lame:
Now all they need to do is make a super cheap 5a one.....
Anyone know of a cheapy alternative for an ESC?
The current draw seems unlikely to top 5a but looks like I'll be paying the same amount (if not more since I got them 2nd hand) than I did for the ESC's in Bitza, which is far more powerful.
Cheers.
If you're running pretty small motors you could use servo boards. I personally use these http://banebots.com/pc/ELECTRONICS/BB-0309 which are pretty bulletproof, and here's an alternative one some beetles use http://www.fingertechrobotics.com/prodd ... -tinyESCv2
I definitly recommend the Banebots, I use the 3A ones in my ants and they're awesome.
Any issues getting them from America? Excessive postage, customs?
The postage from America is always excessive :P and these controllers are no different unfortunately.
Shame, may have a solution though.
So is the arena going to Guildford event?
If the arena is going to Guildford, someone be sure to record some fights :proud:
Also, I have a question about pneumatics (as far as I know, I'm the only uk beetleweight with a flipper at the moment and I don't know if my robot would be alould) Is the max presure 50psi (for a hone made system)? Or can I use 100psi (like in ant weights)?
Thanks
here is my kilobot so far again-

Cool vid!,
rules are the same as featherweights, so full pressure is aloud but the system will after be looked at
cheers mate, im currantly running 12v with 100:1 motors and i am happy with the speed and impressed with the torque, hopefully i will wire a couple of big cheapy servos together for a lifter.
i know in feathers 40mhz is ileagal, is this the case for these?
harry read the 2011 build rules
Out if curiosity, how much have everyone's beetleweights cost them?
£12 :proud:
from scrach? bout £100  but i had most of the stuff already so probably £20
How have beetleweights cost less than antweights?
A lot of people who have built them have the parts spare from antweights. I have all my beetle bits from other projects.
smaller components can be more expensive, also the 5 amp speed controller (as used by many beetlewights) is also used in antweights
I really would like a BW FBS or bar/drum spinner but I don't have a clue what parts I would need
here's a list of what i used:
2x £4 huge servos
10mm chopping board
2.5mm aluminium treadplate
wheels from a pushchair
6v 1ah nicad battery made from drill battery cells
i'm thinking about making a kilobot bar spinner in future but i'll have to see how much the bar will cost to be machined
What kind or weapon does that have and what ESC do use?
it is a seraphim style thwackbot, servos have built in escs so i just use them
I'm nit too fussed about price so what is probably the biggest servo you can buy?
