Well i am finally back home. It took 10 and a half hours and a lot of coffee but I made it.
Sadly neither of the bots were effective as mentioned earlier due to a lack of ground clearance.
Congrats to dave, ed and james along with all the other teams that did well.
A big thanks to the RR crew for putting on the event. I would also like to thank everyone that offered me advice on which direction to head in robot wise. Lets just say you havent seen the last of that big disc :)

A big thank you to John and the RR crew for all their hard work in staging this event.
Congrats to Turbulence for an excellent performance. However Dave its worth remembering for future events its far more interesting if your robot only works properly in about 1 in 3 fights like ours... :wink:

Thanks to everyone who took part and RR for holding the event. Special thanks to Shane for helping when we needed him and to Storm II for giving us our hardest fight of the tornament 1 min 12 seconds I believe.
Secret weapon didnt do so well but very well to Sophie who did a better job than me driving.
btw David OOTA means Out Of The Arena
Will put photos and a report on the website as soon as I can.
See you all in about a month, so people can get some payback, lol. Hope the crew manage to get packed up before the predicted 3am tomorrow morning sorry I couldnt stay longer. But thanks again for a great event.

Big congrats to Turbulence for winning the HW title - you were consistently strong all the way through the competion.
Congrats also to FW champions Captain Scarlet - I agree with Johns comments above - didnt get to see much of what was going on in the end which was a shame :sad:
To Sarah (Dantomkia) - Great win in a very tough competition. You drive it better than Mike ever could (at the very least you know where the pit is and how to avoid it) :wink:
Kronic - The international champions - my money was on you for the HW title but you faced some VERY tough opponents to win this with style.
My special congratulations goes to the inaugural winner of the Tanja Smith Memorial Trophy, Tim from Team ADHD (Hades) driving Hannibalito. Special thanks also to Leo. Everyone dressed up their robots in pink for the occasion which was great to see.
Anyway I had a great time - was able to put many faces to names: Gary - We met at last - youve been a victim of my wit on the forum many a time :) Alistair - you have the makings of a nice solid machine which can and will get better. The Belgian and Dutch roboteers - we dont see each other often enough. Matt & Wendy (Sewer Snake) - Its been great to see you here. You have given us new ideas and have entertained us all. Hope to see you again soon.
Everyone that was there - hope you had as much fun as I did but after 5 days I was knackered!!!

Well done to Turbulence for a great win and to all the other competitors along the way.
Was great to see Storm II back on form again, made our efforts worthwhile I think we made it a total of 18 fights across the competition if you include the whiteboards and main comp fights - and thats only that low as we werent allowed to enter any of the other competitions :sad:
Also can I just say a big congratulations to Geoff and John from Team Scorpion for building one of the scariest machines Ive ever come across. No dis-respect intended to the Turbulence team but I was far happier meeting them in the final than I would have been meeting Scorpion, which looking at the fights is probably who wed have met had they not retired. Anyway, just thought that Geoff and John both deserved our congratulations too !
Roll on the Winter Tour :)

>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Whoops! Sorry Mr Lear, I lost a round there! 5th is still a great finish in such a tough field. So, thats one each for Beast vs Ka-Pow! Lets hope both machines are 100% for the next one- were looking forward to it!
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Sewer Snake didnt really find its form in the early stages of the main tournament. It beat us (our flipper wasnt working in that fight) but was beaten by Beast and Kan-Opener. Having run out of spare gearboxes for the weapon motor they used a passive droop-snoot arrangement on the front for the International and whiteboard melees and started to do much better. As mentioned above, in one particular melee they were giving Storm 2 and Behemoth all the trouble they could handle. A very impressive machine when its working right and a charming and friendly team.

Congrats Dave & James! Deserving victories all round.
I went off in something of a huff on Saturday after being beaten by the arena floor (which Im still not too happy about), but good to hear it all went well on Sunday. At least I had a chance to try my hand a sailing in galeforce winds (and capsizing a few times :blush:)

Thanks to everybody who worked so hard to make this event happen. And everybody who travelled far... our Scottisch friends, our American friends. Biiiig hug.
Hope to have my own robot in competition next year. In an arena with a more dry and sturdy floor (sorry, people moaning so much about the state of the floor -deteriorating even as you looked at it- it had to be mentioned, it messed up quite a lot of really good fights. There are issues about the arena, but these will be discussed in a more serene frame of mind and preferably not smeared out on this forum.).
I appreciate the hard work of the crew, and the organisation of the fights went as smoothly as my hand over my kittens pelt (who, needless to say, was celebrating the moment we got home. Apparently hes missed us. A lot.) and the turnover of the robots went as fast as said kitten can run away from mischief. All in all that was a marvelous achievement to see happen each and every day of the competition !
Regarding pictures:
At a rate of 15 to 30 minutes per folder (one for each day) my pictures are being transferred from the old (t)rusty laptop to the pc. Then I will have close to 4 gigabites to sort through and get the best pictures out. Then they will be uploaded. I dont know where yet but Ill let you know.
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
If anyone has got a decent picture of swarm or hornet can they send me them?
In my rush to get the bots ready I never got any pics!
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Give me a bell if youre looking for somewhere to host, though Flickrhttp://www.flickr.com/ may be your new best friend.
I was well miffed about the arena floor, particularly having started a thread about the things a short while back.
Another issue has to be the safety of the whole arena, I do not think to any stretch of the imagination that this was worthy of class 1 status, we all sure heard about what happened to Scorpion, just imagine what could have happened with the likes of Warhead.
Live and learn

Hi all,
I hope you all enjoyed The Fighting Robot UK champs.
As far as I am aware this is the first completed UK championships that were drawn at random.
I hope that you like this system.There were three really tough pods.
Pod C
Kronic, Iron Awe 3,Turbulence and Spike.
I would not put a bet on this one.
Pod F
UFO verses three spinners. It made our eyes water when doing the draw. UFO did well, considering the challenge.
Pod H
Beast, Kan-opener, Sewer Snake and Ka-pow.
A real open but tough heat. All robots acheived a win in this pod.
As to the winners of trophies and certificates.
Perseverance award to Leveller 2 was extremely pleasurable to give out. Dave Maclan put his robot in the arena whenever required to keep the event moving and it did not matter who they were up against.
Also under consideration for this award was the Terrohurtz team who were turning the pressure up and down on their axe like a yo-yo, to suit the fight conditions.
Best newcomer award to Turbulence.
more on this later.
Runner up CCW02, a Dutch robot, A new machine incredibly reliable for a first event.
Tag Team Trophy Won by Merlin and Velocirippa,after taking on the mighty Terrohurtz/ Tan combination, who people thought were a dead cert for the accolade. The pundits were proved wrong. Congratulations to both teams.
International award to Kronic.
The British robots saw off the international competion with ease in the end.
Annihilator Trophy won by Dantomkia.
This one was close to my heart as the reigning champion going into the event. Sara drove brilliantly for a new heavy weight robot driver.
What the team does not know is that the vantec they borrowed for the event was the same vantec unit that won the last two robot wars annihilators.
This vantec is now up for sale at a healthy premium due to its lucky qualities.
Tanya Smith Memorial award.
A fitting trophy for the permenant memory of an ardent robot fighting fan.
Well done Tim Van Hek, and Leo for preparing it.
Featherweight champion Capt Scarlet, what a 21st birthday present.
2006 heavyweight champion and best new comer award to Turbulence.
The two finalists deserved to be there in my opinion due to their preparation. Although the rebuild of Storm 2 was done behind closed doors, the preparation of Turbulence was more in the open for us all to see.Their preparation seemed similar to our previous 2005 champions Kronic and 2004 champions Terrohurtz.
To have the run of results that the Turbulence team had at Wicksteed is a fantastic acheivement and makes the team worthy winners.
My thanks go to all the Roaming Robots staff especially Pete Lale and Dave Findlay who presided over arena, they opened and closed those arena doors over 130 times, a record.
Finally to all the roboteers, what a great bunch.
I was impressed that you stayed safe in the pits keeping the alley ways clear at all times, it enabled all show schedules to be met.
In essence you made it a slick operation.
Thank you}}

Didnt Scorpions tooth fly off the disk and punch a hole in the arena roof? Person sitting next to me in the audience almost wet herself when that happened! :)
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Well what can I say really.. Well done to Dave and James for winning the competition, as for our feather whoops, a combination of poor signal strength when in the arena and alittle design fault.. 24v relay coil running on 12v a case of I told you so which meant the drum wouldnt switch on.
Shame I couldnt attend the weekend but work takes priority, but had an enjoyable Wednesday the pits where safe and pleasant to work and be in, not to convinced that the arena is class one (or which ever is heavyweight spinner capable) but thats up to FRA to decide not me. Last point of concern is clusterbots rules I had a scan through the current FRA build rules and at a glace seems to be nothing mentioned about them even being allowed, but I was still under the impression that they had to enter (and exit?) physically connected, Other than that everything totaled up to an excellent event.
Things to do before Doncaster:
Spektrum DX6 2.4Ghz System (hopefully)
NiMH Batteries

Hi All,
Just got find the time to post my comments aswell ;) we returned home @ monday approx 10.30pm after a great week of fun. Great to see all the robots where doing so well. We had some great matches and finally after 2 years we where able to use our disk and we didnt expect it should work that well, we where lucky every time. But we now know where our weak spots are and can improve this and hopefully we can return next year with PulverizeR again. I hope the arena is better that time since we are doing this for the audience, they deserve this action instead of doing our fights behind closed doors.
Thanx to everyone who helped and made all the fun during the week. My special thanx goes out to: all the robots/teams we met in the arena, Angela for being such a good host, very impressive and prof. Andy Kane for all the feedback and handling our sily jokes ;), John of Roaming Robots for all the welding and let us borough it. Mike Lambert for being the judge, was great meeting you again.
Thanx again to our belgian friends of Hard, Leo of Hannibal, for keeping us company every night with loads of beer. Last but not least, everyone who entended this competition and who survived our stay ;) hahahaha.. next year we will be back.
Cheers,
On behalf of Team PulverizeR
