Just to put a spanner in the Uni - go or not go - debate.
My son, Matt, decided to do an electricians apprenticeship, on completion 3 weeks go, his employer lost most of his contracts due to Thomas Fish going under, and was made redundant.
He has just got another job, £24,000 a year and a company motor, and he is only 20. Talk about landing on your feet.
Bad news is Im putting his board up.

some letter came in post today about ford apprenticeships and said to go to http://www.ford-apprenticeships.co.ukwww.ford-apprenticeships.co.uk if anyone else is interested
Good wages for electricians at the moment. As I said theres so few people in the industry, wages are high.
Eddy I was just saying (and admitting to) stereotyping people. I went to Uni with some highly intelligent people. One decided to build a CO2 powered chiller for his dissertation, went off to deliver it as a research paper at the CIBSE conference etc etc. My lasting recollection of him is when he phoned me on St Patricks Day on his way back from the Shane McGowan concert in Hammersmith because he was being attacked by a dwarf!! Nevertheless the sterotype still tends to stick until the point someone walks in for an interview.
I went to South Bank Uni in London. It was good for me as it was convenient after work and stuff. I have to say that the lack of a campus feeling would have left me feeling robbed if I had gone full time.
It was good though and although I wasnt happy with some of the lecturers, on the whole it was a good level of learning.
