so we have a beetleweight spinner arena?
read the post above yours..
Great!Quote:

I should be able to get my beetleweight combat ready by then:-)
if we have the spare time to bring and the event organisers allow it
Whats the verdict on the active weapon rule at the moment?
beetleweights AFTER have a active weapon, all robots without will be turned away
Can anybody suggest a suitable Brushless Motor for a kilobot Drum Spinner? :)
there was some discussion a while back where we decided that thwackbot style robots like the saint WOULD be allowed, is that still in effect? as i know a few people who have built to that design and would hate for them to not be able to fight.Quote:

Sounds good then!

Couple more questions:
1) Is the weight limit 1kg or 1.36kg?
2) Isn't the arena just an enclosed box, no OOTA, pit etc?
Can spikes count as active?
no, i don't think so
basiclly, it cant be a ram botQuote:

would be useless  but would be a weapon
You read me like a book
THE WEIGHT LIMIT IS 1.362KG!
Maybe a Hazard clone could suffice?
as long as it has the overhead spinning bar i should think so

I would suggest maybe a pit if not an outer arena, just makes fights a little more interesting and tactical rather than two spinners just hitting each other
Plus, there'd be no way to throw out a spinner
An inclosed arena? oh thats gonna make my flipper pretty useless...
The builders of the arena [teamkenny] have said the arena can be taken to any event where someone wants it. The Guildford Roaming Robots event in June has been suggested. The builders responded that it could come 'if we have the spare time to bring it and the event organisers allow it'.
So perhaps we will see our first beatleweight event. It would be great if teamkenny could let us know if they will have the time and Roaming Robots could let us know if they want to host the arena so people who would like to fight can make plans.
I reckon that rather than a pit a push-out point on a small section of an edge would be worth putting in - such that machines other than spinners have a chance of a KO. Best arenas are those that promote great variety of machine types in my opinion
What sort of motor / gearbox setups are people using?
I don't want to use something too underpowered, or too heavy and over powered for the weight class.
Thanks!
couple of £4 servos :)
100:1 mfa como motors :)
15:1 mfa como motors :)

They're handy in the sense that the Banebots wheels have a hex hub adapter that fits straight on to the 4mm output shaft and is secured against the flat of the output shaft with a little grub screw.

(click on the Banebot Wheel Fixing Details tab for a description with pictures)
Got some 47mm and 60mm Banebots wheels to play about with and see what size is better.
what batteries are people using? Not sure what to get because I need something really light. :)
drill battery cells
I intend on using a lipo pack. It's 11.1V and 850mAh; not sure if that capacity is enough but considering it cost me £1.50 I'm willing to take a punt on it. Although if I need to upgrade, I will upgrade. Don't want to be unnecessarily starving the brushless of power 8)
Thanks for the replies :)
So will the lipo on yours be powering the brushless motor or the drive motors?...or both?? :)
At the moment, the plan is to have it powering both the drive and the brushless systems. But if I find that the drives are cutting out or losing power as a result of voltage sag when the brushless is spun up, then I'll consider running separate packs for the weapon and drive.
Sounds awesome. Also another question. What speed controllers are best for kilobots?
I was going to go with this;

But if 5a doesn't cut it then I'll go with the 10a one.
I thought people used the one I linked for Ants, but it weighs 53g so I'm guessing not.
looks good. :) do you think it would work with these motors?

That speedo is ample for a Kilobot, and its only 22g, not 53. I've got about 3 of them :P
