I hope its not where I think it is :proud:
One of my dads friends got his finger almost chopped clean off by a factory machine (carelessness:lame:)...the finger just hanging by a loose piece of skin. The guy was so distressed by the amount of blood that he keeled over immediately, fainting. His fingers fine now though. :)

Yeah, Ive seen many a big man faint at the sight of blood or a little damage.
When a student I used to work odd jobs to shore up my income and one of these stints was in a supermarket, selling meat and bread-dressings. The saw we used to cut the meat into neat slices with was extremely sharp. One could get hurt terribly just by cleaning it...:uhoh:
Then one day I was slicing meat for a customer and suddenly my hand slipped and it shaved off a bit of finger. (Just skin and a little meat, nothing serious anyway) so the colleagues called for the store manager to bring the first aid kit. When that poor man arrived and saw my finger from afar he literally fainted, face pale and everything. The 7 or so female customers and 3 female colleagues were just looking at him with pity, and looking at my finger with interest.
When I got bitten in de hand by a dog some 5 years ago we were playing driver for a very tough-looking death-metal band. They were horrified by what they saw. They didnt need white make-up that day for the foto-shoots. All I needed to do was show them the bloodied bandage on my hand...
Men... sissies, every single one of them...

Ill second that Alistair!! Me Too :)
Ever since i had Quincies when i was 13 ive not been bothered about needles. (Quincies, for those of you that dont know is a worse form of tonsilitus that closes the airway until you cant breath. Normally only seen in people over 40! The only way to stop it closing the airway is to lance it at the back of the throat).
Sure to say that i have never screamed so loud.
Oh and the other day i nearly fell asleep in the dentist chair when he was drilling my teeth. :proud:

Well, we had a not-so-nice scare yesterday and today... yesterday morning Mario noticed that Critter (German Shepherd, just turned 11) couldnt walk anymore on her hind legs. Paralized.
This morning we took her to the vet, fearing she had to be put down, but he noticed that, despite encroaching deaf- and blindness, her heart is still beating strong, her head is allright (never mind that she is as crazy as a kitten on catnip), her teeth still good and strong, appetite good as ever (which means the world record wolfing anything down), the tail wagging and the plumbing still functioning fine. He tested her spine and found she had lost feeling around her pelvis/hip joints. That is why she has no force left in those legs.
I know from a book that this problem can occurr with aging German Shepherds. You cant cure it really but with the right medication she wont have pain. She kind of drags her hindquarters along, hind paws neatly tucked in, gliding -while sitting- over the tiles. The problem is when she has to go... urm... outside. She needs support for that and so we rigged a car seatbelt-harness around her chest with an extra belt around her tummy attached to it and that makes it possible to hoist her up and support her. (see my profile for the picture) Mario uses it to pick her up bodily and hoist her over the stairs to and fro the garden every time. (The dog is absolutely frightened when being picked up, screams your head right off, but being hoisted like that she tolerates.)
So... now were looking for a solution to help a half-paralized large dog put on some wheels. Were at a German event this weekend and plans will be made there, no doubt with some good old solid engineering input from the Germans. While a very nice friend is taking care of Critter here at home.

That happened to my old English sheep dog. I talked to Mario this morning about designing a wheel chair for her back legs, including parts from a golf trolly and seat belt. Would be interesting to see how it works out.
I€™ve also had tonsillitis many times. It sucks.

Our old German Sheperd / Australian Cattledog had to be put down because of kidney disease...which was caused from some kind of a mouth disease. We couldnt afford to get her teeth cleaned.

Fortunately Critter is doing much better now, so plans for a wheelchair are put in the drawer for the time being. Our friend who doggy-sitted her this weekend told us she was walking again by Saturday afternoon. Shes adapting wonderfully really. She careens rather much but can lurch short distances unaided. With a car seatbelt harness, and an extra belt looped around her tummy, we can support her when she has to go and hoist her over steps and into the couch and car. She tends to complain when we do the hoisting but shes not really grumpy, its fear for being picked up (puppyhood trauma from her first owners). But its great to watch her calculating on how to descend the 3 steps into the garden, then going for it in one massive lurch. Or the way she drops herself from the couch instead of trying to climb down from it.
She may be old, nearly deaf, nearly blind, and a bit disabled, but she continues to amaze and delight us with her intelligence and zest for life.
Those who dont complain at all are the cats. They love it now that shes sleeping most of the time or just lying there, that makes for a nice soft warm bed, just the thing for the quality cat-nap.
