Featherweight Database
I will be attending an event this year. Might even make it 2 :)
Looking at the uk wide comp that Jonno mentioned a few weeks ago in August.
Both the feather and (hopefully) the heavy will be in attendance. Currently the heavy is an empty chassis and a pile of parts. I want to get the feather finished first then I will concentrate on the heavy.
Stu, it looks like I will just be able to make the limit, taking 1.8kg and replacing it with just over 500g for the batteries has been a big help! No weight change for the golds. The weight has gone to the pancake at the back.

Featherweight Database
Is that the 75w pancake motor often used in mig welders? they are quite heavy!
-
Featherweight Database
no idea. Bought it off ebay. They cost £90 brand new so I got quite a bargain. It weighs around a kilo. So if I scale up the weights then it the same as using my etek in the heavy :)

looks good Leo what weight r u lookin at??
-
Featherweight Database
with the top armour on its now 11,7 kg.
-
Featherweight Database
it loke like a chaos 2 copy to me......
-
Featherweight Database
Mats, nothing wrong with using the design features that worked well with another robot
-
Featherweight Database
It could be me, but i totally dont see any resemblance to Chaos2 apart from the fact that it has a flipper.
Now if you had said that from Hannibal i would have agreed. Are you looking at my heavyweight? Cause that one was indeed based on Chaos 2.

I could just as easily say the bot on your profile looks like pussycat Mat...
-

well i cant talk both of my machines are replicas. Preditor will be here soon :)

Featherweight Database
Errrm i dont think so Ewan.
But in fairness Matt, we wouldnt have bots such as Storm 2 if it wasnt for Tornado/Kind B and many more. People have their own ideas, and take other peolpes ideas and either improve or change a few things slighty, its how the WORLD works.
Leo that bot looks cool and i cant wait to see it working. I made an attempt with a feather flipper called Flowrate, which was based on Chaos 2 and Hannibal, but was low pressure so more weight used with buffers and regulators and so on, and had very little weight left over for decent armour other than 6mm poly. Would have been afun bot to play with without spinners about. Go for it, cant wait to see it Leo!!!

Ahha guys, I figured the problem, half of you are looking at Leos link, half at his profile. He bought the heavyweight on his profile off someone else (the one that looks like chaos 2), the feather is the one on the link.
Looks a tough ol bot, please let us know if you have any other pics or even test vids if you get round to it.

Wow Glen, im pursuing plans on a very similar design taking inspirations from Cobra with a compound angle shell but made from welded Ail. But yours is a much tougher cookie and quicker progress, very impressive.

Glen, just out of curiosity, what did the fan motor come out of? I was never able to find one suitable for my own design.
-
Featherweight Database
we get ours from a mitsubishi TR magna, its the radiator fan motor. but you can get ones that are about the same diameter much taller and with a similar spinning plate out of 1980s ~ nissan pintaras and skylines.
thanks chris, be very interested to see your plans :), the angled shell im obsessed with at the moment as you can tell lol, it may be a b*ztch to make but its worth it.

Thanks for the comments all. The feather will be competing in MMM 4 in Hattingen, Germany. There no doubt i will be able to get a video or at least action shots of it working.

Alex , there is no way your robot will be 12kg , why are you posting it in this thread ?
-
Featherweight Database
cos its too heavy for the ant and anyway 12 kg is the max as long as it gets to 1 kg then its a feather.

First movies of Hannibalito (previously known as Road Rage) in action.
The first couple of fights my driving was awful, because it was way overpowered and a very slippery surface. I tuned down te power a bit after the second fight wich made the driving a lot better.

Still some things to be sorted out, specificly the liquid co2 that is being wasted and freezes my system up.
Many thanks to Dirk Antwerpen from Germany for the movies.

little question. Im currently rebuilding BonX, and it seems i have weight left (about 2 kg.)
would it be allowed to have a show flamethrower?
-
Featherweight Database
Upto the event organiser if it was used outside of battle. but it does say no flamethrowers in the rules for fighting.
-
Featherweight Database
shame, thought so already
-
Featherweight Database
You should be ok if you take it to battle in america there the RFL rules allow more experimental and risky designs like flamethrowers (http://www.teammadcow.com/morpheus_2.htmMorpheus
-
Featherweight Database
nay, i like goosfraba better.
i was just looking for a way to get BonX from a lame way-overpowered pushbot to something cooler.
-
Featherweight Database
I have got to get me one of those!!! :)
Having seen the video, I think its high time the FRA took another look at this no flame-thrower rule!!
...What do you think??
-
Featherweight Database
You would end up using Napalm
-
Featherweight Database
Do you think that Pete and Dave of RR would appreciate scraping up all the melted polycarb armoured ex robots that would be firmly stuck to the floor is this were allowed?
-

What floor Karoline after all it is made out of wood

Morpheus / Goosfraba / Alcoholic stepfather all have the same system, a big bright clearly visible flame to add to the coolness factor of the robot.
Would they have chozen for effectiviness it would have been a small blue one.
And even so, i would be more worried fighting Scorpion Jr. / Little spinner than some bot with a not so effective but wicked cool flame-thrower
-
Featherweight Database
Having seen the video, I think its high time the FRA took another look at this no flame-thrower rule!!
considering some current roboteers that are likely to build one if we do allow it- God no!!
we give people enough ways to kill themselves as it is, introducing something else they can pretend to understand would be deadly.
-
Featherweight Database
after already setting myself on fire a few weeks ago, I would tend to agree with James B comments there!
if you want a weapon that produces nice sparks or that for the crowd then use an angle grinder disk, not going to cause much in the way of damage but at the same time will make some nice sparks against steel or titanium bots. Been thinking about doing this with the featherweight so I can run it at events where the arena cant handle spinners. What are peoples views on this idea? And more importantly, would it be breaking any rules?
-
Featherweight Database
as long as it dosent shatter then i think it is ok.
