These are some really nice little adapters!
Yeah seemed too good to be true for a while. Need to put it all together yet and then can see the quality of the threads and stuff.
Had a couple of hours tonight putting my new drive together. Not sure how it will go but for thirty quid it was worth a punt. Haven't quite sussed how to embed imgur imgs yet. The make-do soldering station made me laugh so I took a picture. The drill motor is from low budget 1. The other was a write off. I've kept it and stripped it down, locked the clutch up and re-soldered the cables. Keep wanting to use it for a weapon on Low Budget 2 but not sure what to do with it. It was too good to throw away. I have the other with a wheel on, but after getting thrown by a flipper and landing on it I can't get the wheel off the shaft. Anyway, some pictures. Questions / comments / ideas welcome as ever.

Looks very much like how I am rebuilding The Honey Badger, not in a shed per se but in the lounge (and my office). Your soldering is much better than mine though! :D
I found that if it is just stuck on by force rather than screws (or if the wheel was superglued on, as was my case), get a cup or something that is smaller than the wheel diameter (so it can overhang over it) but deep enough for the motor to float in it and then using a nail and a careful touch of the hammer hitting the shaft, I found that would drift the motor off of the wheel. This will only work of course if there is any motor shaft visible.Quote:

That's a good idea will try that :)
so the toaster in pic one isnt your new bot then?:P
Coming soon! Lol
We already have a teapot robot, a toaster would fit right in!
I have a biscuit tin and a roses tin built for the beetle stuff. Then spinners were everywhere so they are sat on a shelf lol.
Another hour at it today. Took extrusion to my Dad who cut it like a boss (ex rally car mech). Think you can see from the pics what I'm aiming for. Realised I can't get the finish I want myself with my bits of tools, so going to outsource anything I will make a hash of.

nice and shiney! how you bolting it all together?
Looks like it will be very tough and sturdy - what width and thickness is the box section being used in the photos?
Lol thanks! The idea at the min is to drill top to bottom through the base and sides and use nuts and bolts to clamp the sides to the base plate. Currently trying to dream up a much neater solution.
The box section is 2mm wall thickness and is 50mm x 50mm cross section. Robot is 400mm square.
Awesome! :D
TBH, Short of welding the panels to the box frame, I would think some quite meaty bolts, nuts and washers (M8/M10 type stuff) would be plenty to keep the panels to the frame. Makes it look quite industrial as well. As for the frame itself, 4x (or 8x) L shaped brackets on the interior so the panels sit flush on the box section (again, held in with nuts/bolts/washers)?
Did you decide on a weapon at all?
Btw to embed images from imgur just use the add image button in the editor and use the From URL tab. You need the link from imgur with the image name though like this: http://i.imgur.com/Ik9NXoG.jpg so I you can just slap .jpg on the end of the link and it should work.

Been looking at building just a rambot but not ruled out a hammer.
And thanku about the imgr stuff I'll have a go.
Spent the last few weeks sizing up and re-cutting, it was way too big. Shortened to 400mm wide by 300mm long. Then spent another week cutting it all out again by hand.

Looks neater than mine at the moment!
yessss! #1fan is stoked for the return of this thread! looks plenty robust, what are you thinking about putting in there to shift all that metal? if you need a name i want to put forward "Aluminion" lol
I have some small motors and gearboxes I bought cheap a couple of months back but am worried they won't be torquey enough. I might try them, and if they're rubbish get some expensive ones.
Looking good! Following on from Alex's suggestion, I'd like to suggest the name 'Silver Bullet'.
Looking back at page 44 of the thread...
...then I am convinced that at least two of those 50:1 will move a basic wedge/rambot with the design you have and the material being used (I have one of these motors for my Beetleweight Shu! lifter motor).Quote:
Erm it's just a ram bot without a wedge to see if it glances off spinners. Which is really what's built to fight. And I'm giving these a try randomly

with skate wheel hub adapters and wheels. Whole thing was like £30 or so delivered and just screws together stress free.
If you wanted a bit more power in it though, either upping the voltage to near as 15v as possible (since the specifications suggest they'll go that high) or using four of them would be ideal in a one per 1 corner arrangement - they are light enough to have four in that design and still have a lot of weight allowance left over for armour and/or weaponry.
Yeah I'm going to try them and see what they're like. I'm not quite sure what to expect. They don't have as much power as drill motors but then I never got drills running right anyway. If these don't work going to get some ampflows or build a heavyweight lol. Now I know I can cut accurately I want to give a heavy another go.

Loving the industrial look of it. I'd keep it looking like it is ;)
Yeah I will do :)
I like it, reminds me of All Torque
i like lt! :D especially enjoying the invisible wheels set up, very unique!
It hovers on anti gravity engines lol.
whoa! like the hoverboard from back to the future or maybe a harrier jump jet? Either way, very unique! Didnt you look into a "hoverbot" Dave?
The fan powered feather exists. It wouldn't be competitive and just get pushed about lol.
but.. it would be AMAZING! haha!
Do you think it's something people would enjoy watching?
Can't see why not, I'd be blown away (bah-dum-pish :D). I can imagine it being awfully loud and I would think a fan guard would be needed if it hasn't got one. Be good entertainment mind ;)
If I'm honest with myself, i know I'm not going to be able to build anything to compete with some of the fantastic creations I've seen on here so far. There are some beautiful and stunning work that i know in my heart ill never be able to come close too. But, i belie if you cant be good, be distinguished! Diotoir (my all time fav!), the many Plunderbirds, Psychosprout, Tentomushi... had there moments but realistically were never going to make an impact compared to the big guns of the time. But that's not what i know and love them for. I loved the uniqueness and artistry of there design and the charm and character of there creations. If were talking the modern reboot than looking at Gabriel, realistically, its not the most effective nor the most destructive, but i love the unique design and behind the big wobbly wheels is a brilliantly engineered machine that i rooted for (along with Nuts!) not because of its destructive force or effective ability's but its entertaining appeal. I love the sprit of the team and its machine! Not everyone can be an Apollo or a Carbide sometimes you have to just be yourself and be damn good at it!
I like the idea of a hoverbot so much I've been designing my own, so your not alone mate! Go for it! And if you need someone to share with than I'm happy to start a thread with you documenting or research and process and sometime down the line we can have a hoverbot bash at an event or something. After all, the foundations of this sport were layed by enthusiastic amateurs having a go and learning along the way.
Sorry for the long post, I'm a very passionate person  Need a nap now.
It's been a while. Building a heavy, CAD started last night. Motors getting ordered this aft if available. Steel at end of week.

good to see you again Dave! You still got those wheel chair motors and that body you had made? Cand wait to see what you come up with!
No I sold those, been looking at Ampflow's
