Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
There is/was a weight class in America called Sozbots (16oz (Sixteen OZ roBOTS), 16oz = 1lb, they're called Antweights in america (Fairyweights are UK 150g Antweights), Beetles are the 3lb class, You may be getting confused between a kilo and a pound, 2 different weight catagories

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
There was some discussion about the weigh limit earlier on in the thread, but I couldn't find the conclusion.
Are we aiming for Kilobots (1kgs) or BeetleWeights (3lbs / 1.36kgs.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
It says Beetle weight at 1.362kg in the FRA rules so I'm saying it's beetle weight
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
When the class was first 'launched' in the UK, it was just intended as a 1kg (kilobot) fun class to play in by Kenny and Tom. But very quickly the popularity grew with almost everyone saying they'd build one (although there are only a few at the moment). So the conversation soon turned to standardising the class internationally so that we could compete with the Americans/Aussies/whoever else in the off-chance that there would be inter-continental battles. Long story short, the decision was made to make it an official FRA weight category but with a weight limit of 1.362kg, or 3lb (beetleweight).
It's up to you what you want to call the class. I often change between beetleweight and kilobot in posts but to be honest, it's only 300g of difference; important when you're being weighed, less important when talking about it :)
And as a side note, Canada opted for the 1kg weight limit. Quite a few kilobot event videos from there on Youtube.

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Im going to have to get this arena out somtime arnt I.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Yup :)
I'm one of the worst for saying that I'll be building a beetle yet have still to get round to it. But hopefully (fingers crossed) once the champs are done and dusted I'll start work on one or two machines.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
ive built one, cant wait to be destroyed by a big nast spinner
destruction of a robot is even more fun when its yours!!!

Count me as one of the 'worst', I've still yet to start building my AW

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
If the/an arena is ready.. any chance of an event in mid September? Feels unusual to have a machine that actually works and hasn't been minced by a spinner yet, this needs to be resolved.

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
I've had a mad idea which involves a spinner, some nail brushes and some rumble motors from a ps2 controller.
Dangerous and unpredictable!
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
im up for some destruction!
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
snap, although 1 decent hit to one of my wheels will snap the servo horn :uhoh:

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
i think kilobots are a good way of filling that gap between ants and feathers. can still be quite cheap to build and aint as small and fiddily as ant weights :)

Agreed. So does anyone know if an arena is going to emerge where we can run these machines?

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Can anyone recommend some nice powerful drive motors for a BW? I've got an idea which is slightly more conventional than my last.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
has anybody got a link to those 360 degree standard stock servos? like not modified or anything but just built to go 360, im sure i saw them at a event a while back, thanks!
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Tempted to do a CO2 powered axe robot, kind of like scorpion. 2 motors for drive, the only question is what to use for the gas tank. Also does the weight check include the weight of the CO2 in the tank?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
jack: just hack some standard size servos :proud:
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Yeah, i was kinda wanting to get some of the pre modded ones seeing as my hacking skills aren't great, and to test them out for future users
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
i'll do you a pair if you want
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
What is the pressure limit for this weight limit?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Harry that would be great XD how much and can you do them for Ayelsbury? also check your PM's
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
i will try jack, ive got a couple lying around somewhere you can have :proud:

Yes, consumables are included in the weight.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
how much do you think a kilobot flipper or spinner would cost?
would spinners be able to fight at most events of would they only be at select events?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Probably selling all my beetleweight stuff, got un used banebots escs, drive motors with wheels- same motor as 180 but 50mm wheel. Small rx, drum spinner, brushless setup etc.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
might be interested in them :)
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
What's the brushless setup like Dave? Ordered some motors and wheels for my beetleweight yesterday and need a brushless setup for the weapon so I figure since you're pretty knowledgeable in that stuff, using yours as a guide would be a good start. Even just an idea of cost would be handy (unless you want to sell me yours :))

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
How much for the Banebots ?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
if matt doesn't take it all i'm interested in the drum spinner. by the way any update on the arena?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
just put up a test video of my beetlweight called kookaburra, named after the deadliest of creatures in the australian outback.

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
i hope that fights a spinner
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
I want to hopefully build a drum spinner or something pneumatic, if that's even possible in this weight class
-

Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
What kind of brushless motors are the best for this weight class and is attaching it directly the bar ok?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
I wouldn't suggest mounting directly to the motor shaft in this weight class as they arn't strong enough to withstand the impacts we are expecting
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots

Good question. The big question is whether anyone is building an arena that can take these machines. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but at present there is no arena which is available and suitable for this class - whether they are pushers, flippers, spinnners or whatever.
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
Talking about arena hazards what about house robots?
It's just occurred to me that I have a couple of those R/C Robot Wars toys they made a while back. These 2 actually;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0618651120
I liked Jamie's idea of turning his Chaos 2 toy into a competing Ant, so thought I'd do the same with these!
They only have plastic shells, so I wouldn't want to compete with these (spinners and all that.....) plus seems unlikely I would get them under 1.36 kgs, but could be interesting to watch from an audience perspective if they acted as the house robots they are based on.
How is the arena coming along? Who is building it, and would they be bringing it to events? Or running their own events?
-
Re: UK Kilobots - 1.362kg (3 lbs) Combat Robots
I built the arena. Kennys going to be taking it to Robots Live events somtime.
