have you got the drum yet? also what is the height and weight of the robot at the momtent?
The base is 350x350 and the robot is 80mm high.
The drum weight is 2.2kg on the cad, I'm waiting until the bearing mounts are finished and mounted so I can check the dimensions against the cad before having the beater/drum made by Kenny at ALK engineering.
Total weight without the armor is around 10.3kg...should leave enough for a mostly shell.
its an all purpose bot, can run as a spinner for the champs but has enough power to be a FBH at any other events :)
Also, what are the diametre of the wheels and how many teeth do the pulleys have?
80mm as I said... Height of the robot. 14tooth pulleys
so... the robot is 80mm and he wheels are 80mm, wouldnt that mean the wheels dont touch the ground?
:| ... You asked for the height of the robot... It's invertable... So the highest point is the top of the Tyres... Which is 80mm from the ground. It has 5mm ground clearance top and bottom.
Natural enough to understand the height of the bot as the height of the chassis. For some reason I did it too, lol. Must be talent. :wink:
Bot is looking as sleek and lovely as ever. Can't wait to see what it can do. My only fear is that 2.2KG isn't all that much in drum terms, is it?
It'll be okay... Just a bit of fun. 360s my damaging spinner anyhow...that's 5kg@5000rpm
its got the pushing power aswell, the drum just makes it that little bit more interesting :)
I wouldn't sniff at 2.2kg for a spinning weapon! Drum or not, that's gunna hurt!
Also have any of your seen 540 in action? It could have a sponge on the front and it would kick arse! If it lasted 3 minutes without destroying itself that is................
not done an update in ages, not really done much...
got a plate of D2 tool steel and milled it down to 25mm thick at robochallenge HQ;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/ab06e5f7.jpg
then droped it of to draftek (http://www.draftek.co.uk/) who are based down the road from me who water jet the beater out, as per the cad i sent them... it turned out like this;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/fc833dcb.jpg
...next to the bot;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/425539d0.jpg
hopefully poping to ed's tomorow to put the bearings into the bearing blocks, then back to robochallenge to turn the beater edges down to a round profile to fit in... not long until it should be spinning.
wow, that is a beatuful machine you have there, what kind of damage do you think you'll do with that?
What's your thinking with the beater's shape Dave? Looks a little like a space invader!
@Harry... not much...hopefully it will just flip other robots in the air and chew em up a bit...
@PJ... duno it just turned out that way... didnt want to go for the normal hollowed out box shape of all the US beaters...i like it.
more progress;
Im upgrading the drive from dewalts to speed 900, mainly for reliability reasons... and because i want it to be faster then it currently is in low gear... so with the help of Dennis Martens this has been drawn up, and the parts ordered;

http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...ds/Render3.jpg
prototype gearbox plate machined on Dennis's home made cnc;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...ds/render4.jpg
...they should mate up with the original mount for the dewalts, so will be totaly interchangeable.
Beater mounted;

Few bits n bobs to Finnish up and it'll be ready for a spin up :)
nice! what's happening with 360? does it still work?
its stacked away, needs some work doing... a lot of the threads have stripped in the disc mount, needs new brass gears for the drive also...ill re-build it, but it will probably only be used in white boards/demos etc... ill use 540 for competitions now.
That looks immense Dave! Looking forward to seeing it spin up.
Are you using normal bearings in the beater mounts?
17mm go-kart bearings...out of tornados old wheels lol...found em in my shed in my pile of bits n bobs.
Old - pile - bits, your speaking my language!
Neat idea though, we've got some bearings from a lawnmower gearbox for Bitza 2 and I was concerned they wouldn't hold up to the impacts, but wheel bearings would be fine.
Very smexy dave, and the robots not bad either
Exceptional as always Dave.
Once you get the Speed 900s fitted and the beater running you could have a real contender on your hands. Powerful weapon, and a powerful drive to back it up.
Been contemplating a beater for Drumroll for a while now but reckon I'll stick with the drum. Calling it Beatroll doesn't quite work as well.
That, and the fact my beater would probably be plain and boring by comparison :)
thanks for the comments guys...
lipo not fully charged and bad quality video but;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9l8dv3tyAs
well it sounds scary :lol:
That looks and sounds scary
Will we be seeing it Sunday?
Very nice Dave, will be good to see it smashing up stuff.
I'm finally seriously looking into Scorpion motors and lipos for Drumroll as a winter upgrade, figure it's time to play with the big boys rather than trying and failing. It's a Castle Creations ICE speedo you use for your motor isn't it?
yep, with a larger capacitor soldered to the input to smooth voltage ripple... i use a castle creations ICE 200A esc...details about it previously in the build diary :) motor is a HK4025 - 890KV, lipo is a flightpower 6s 4000mah...
And yeah ill be at kidderminster on sunday... no spinners though so ill be running it just with the hardox shell bolted on, as per the uk champs.
I'll be in the pit quite quick then :)
you going saturday Dave?Quote:

You work at Cadbury right?
You better come Saturday!
Robot sounds awesome. Be good to see it in full combat.
Dad won't let you in the door without!Quote:

got a few box's, save me a big pit table! lol
just took the data off the logging system in the esc from the spinup in the video... came up like this;
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...vid1spinup.png
charged the lipo and did another test...
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/v...hargedlipo.jpg
spins up to 7812rpm in 1 second and pulls less then 60a :) that's gotta be a record? :mrgreen:
That's crazy!
How much does the beater weigh?
2kg :) ...shame its not more.
material fail;

i think what i got sold as D2.... wasnt D2 :(
this is how it did before it broke;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKZI1seh3t4
broke hitting ploughbots old steel shell....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ7TSSFNajY
think ill make a new one from a plate of hardox... as its got more flex in it... ill sort it after the speed 900 stuff is in though...
Were the arms welded on, or has it just sheared straight through the metal? You'd think it would be up to more than that.
