It is looking rather cool.
Also off topic but gonna say it - was looking at peoples profiles - Kenny your heavy weight is looking cool dude! And Aaron, that picture of your nicads like that scares me. LOL. Just waiting for someone to touch the wires together :proud:
Mr Stu
Lol, that was a long time ago, I dont build shrink wrap packs any more, dont like how weak they are, check out my profile now with one of my intercooled poly packs. I can now throw my battery packs at the brick walls on my house with no problems :proud:
New carrot feather is a 4 motor drive too... just welded the gearbox cages onto the chassis.. see profile..
Is that the planetary ring gear youve welded to the chassis????
yep
planetary gear cages welded, drive shaft bushed through 50x25 2mm ERW chassis, no more of that floppy motor mounting business with jubilee clips..
cant remember if i posted this before or not but hey ill do it anyway lol

Just finished uping the power on Kishar from 12v to 24v for the Disc. Small vid on http://www.teamdragon.org.ukwww.teamdragon.org.uk bottom of Kishar page
Hmm. Very Nice Tony.
That reminds me why im in no hurry to get my feather finished any time soon!!
Finally made a page about my neat new HTI gearboxes :)
http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/gearmod.htmlhttp://www.micro-maul.co.uk/gearmod.html
I now have the ability of running at up to 24v with less risk of burning out the motor
Having seen HellBringerX run 4 x HTI motors with SS2 gearboxes @ 24v, Id say you have the same chance of blowing the motors up as a Mini EV :proud: HellBringerX smoked on average 2 motors per event, IIRC.
I have seen quite a few reports on the american forums of the HTIs burning out at 24v in various configurations/set-ups but im sure you will have much better luck at 18v.
Chris - ^_^
sorry, what did you do here?
swapped some cheapo drill motors for slightly more expenseive cheapo drill motors?
no offense meant, just a lot of writing about a simple thing.
I have been running 2 wheel drive 600 size 6volt motors at 24 volts for 6 months now, no big deal really, pushed pillow torque in a couple of fights... and ran well on plastic gears for 3 events.
I personally would use better motors on the gearbox you have, but thaTS JUST ME.
Actually I thought Ewans effort was something to be commended rather than taken to bits. Clearly a lot of thought went into produce an information page with no use other than trying to show others how they can work on their machines (which is pretty self-less if you ask me).
Yes you might choose a different motor - but doesnt the fact that someone Ewans age can do the job of modifying the gearbox, and have the nouse to document it and write about it deserve support rather than a flaming ?
Seriously Ewan, dont let them get you down !
Ed
http://www.teamstorm.comhttp://www.teamstorm.com
fair point, although i think the actual mod was simple, and a bit pointless documenting it, I must say that Ewan has done something I find extremely difficult.
Putting this information on the net is not a thing i find easy, so yes, all commendation to Ewan on that, and to the fact he is selfless in his attempts to help everyone for no reward other than the enjoyment of helping. Fair play.
Doesnt change the fact that I worry about people Ewans age (and sometimes a little older) posting indepth information that I often feel is misleading, inaccurate and to be honest, does more harm than good, but in this case, yes, very well done article, not all acurate, but still... changing motors is not rocket science. I would be far more interested in why Ewan chose this motor? What benefits are there? What are its specs? It says basically, but more info would be nice, since so much time and effort was put in. Also, more info on the gearbox, what can it do at its limit?
People who visit this forum for information benefit a lot from people like Ewan, who put so much stuff up for them, but I have to say that there are times when I cringe at the stuff being said. I wonder how many people copy bad advice and give up when it doesnt work? Very few people realize how old some of our experts are, which I feel is dangerous.
This is nothing personal against Ewan, or anyone else, heck, Im sure people would disagree with some of the advice I give, but I always try to be sure that I am giving the best advice, not the latest thing i tried and dont know if it works yet. I have come accross a lot of people who have said that half the stuff you read about building robots is bad advice... I agree
Ewan has achieved something else I cant, Ed jumped to his defence very quickly, so he clearly knows how to make friends and influence people :) A future world leader maybe? :)
and having said that.....
Ewan DID put info links about both motor and gearbox....
slinks away under a rock, with egg on face....
you do that
Just a suggestion... maybe the FRA should put together a set of guides like these to help beginner roboteers? I beleive the Aussies are doing something like this at the moment.
It looks like Ewans guide was written just in time are the SS2 gearbox and the HTI motor is no longer availible on The RMP or RDS , Great Going Ewan !
A little correction required there, the HTI motor is still currently available. Its a decent motor, though due to its size, as said by a couple of people above, running at 24V is pushing it. I intend to run with 75mm wheels - smaller than wheels used by most, and as Ive got a spare pair of motors Ill try running at 24v, see how it goes, and if neccessary go down to 18v.
I will correct myself , the HTI motor with the pinion gear is no longer availible at RMP

out of interest, would anyone be interested in buying some of these?
if so, they are £120 (included postage and import duty) per pair as sold by robotpower.com with motors.
e-mail me if interested.

Rebuilding started on Tiamat. Latest pic on profile.
Are you sure you havent copied and pasted a picture of little flipper? ;)
Very nice, looks a good layout
No Im sure I havent as both the drive motors are at the back. The flipper is made out of 4mm Hardox. The side armour will be made out of 20mm nylon. Haveing a manifold made at work from 1in thick Ali. Ram from Mario.
Looking at the tap youve got on the tank Tony, are they available as a seperate part or did it come that way? I could do with something like that for my paintball tanks. Also, what are those wheels? Im gradually getting a proper parts list together for a featherweight Savage Toaster. Coincidently I was looking at a big slab of Nylon 6 at school (work) the other day. Weve got a little Roland CNC milling machine that could make quite decent Toaster sides out of that and pocket out the back to save weight too...
No they came that way. Got the tank of Jonno. I got the wheels from B&Q give plenty of grip. We have used the nylon before and Little Spinner could not get through it.
Cheers Tony. Wheels from B&Q eh? What are they normally used for?
Dont know they were just selling them seperatly.
Hmmm... Trip to B&Q tomorrow then... Either that or its off to the car boot sales for ab rollers

Mr Stu
Hornet is looking very cool ,I cant wait to fight that thing .
Looking very good Gary. When do you think we will see it in a event.
Got the 3 HTIs mounted in Kishar for the weapon drive. Will see how it works at Magna. Pic on profile.
