Just need a reply on when n where the champs is now...

One word of warning. I've just found out that Manchester will be seeing the debut of Extreme Robots' new upgraded steel arena, which means only one thing.... there will be spinners.
I've got the exact same setup really same (ish) motors, NIMH batts and sabretooth as well. Always good to see how they work together and the possibility's of what to do with them. Plus, i think we have very similar skills.
sounds exciting yet painful....Quote:

this is brilliant man i love you ethos of "here stuff i found in a bin" keep it up
I love that. It's like something that evolved on its own in the landfill rather than was build by man.....time for the machines to gain sentience and inherit the earth! Haha!
Haha cheers for the love! Yeah it's just fun to see what builds into what really. I can drill, bolt, cut, tie wrap, velcro etc. Oh and am good with duct tape :)
And if they're introducing spinners into the common or garden events I need a feather rethink as my scrap powered creations won't stand up to that at the min lol.
Also...does anyone know when the beetle champs is? I've messaged everyone I can think of and have had zilch back.
I get the quick cheap builds from what you have lying around but does it have to be that sloppy? Its like you intentionally did eveything as badly and roughly as possible, why?
I'm sure you can do better than that mate. Take a little pride in your work maybes.
We can't all be cnc cad superstars :D
And? You can still cut straight lines. The greater portion of the robot scene is handmade. With like 5% more effort you could have something much better. It seems like a waste is all.
If u don't like it read someone's else's thread :D
Hey dave, what wheels are you using and what screws are holding them to the hubs? Got the same motors and hubs pretty much but the wheels i bought just don't seem to right. Ta!
I use pololu wheels and hubs, but the original set screws are a complete waste of time. I went down Maplin and bought a box of assorted M3 and M4 screws. I sat with the hubs, wheels, gearboxes and brackets and just tried a selection of screws till it all went together properly and was tight. The screws have a propper head on so you can tighten them up really well with a screwdriver and stop them coming loose. Between fights I'll usually just nip them up. To be honest it's mostly the shaft adapter set screw that comes loose, the bracket and wheel screws are still tight two years on. I can supply up close pictures if it helps. Just let me know what you need. If you wanna share a pit at events for some help you're more than welcome, although I'm not the best builder but not too bad at bodging up to get stuff back in the arena. Makes all the difference when ya robot was hammered n tin snipped in the first place :)
Ah ok, thanks for the advice! So the wheels already come with screws? Interesting. I bought some lite flight hubs and wheels but its clear they aren't suitable for what i want sadly. I guess these are the mistakes we all make in the beginning. Have some of the Pololu universal hubs same as you but just not any suitable wheels and didn't want to waste more money. If you have any close up pics id be interested to see them, thanks! That's a great offer, id love too! Haven't got anything moving as of yet but its getting there! I work a seasonal job Feb till Nov so we shall see what time i can get off as im eager to go to an event as part of a tem or just to watch. Wanted to go to the Stevenage event as i used to live there so i know it well but i dont think its on this year sadly. What events are you planning to go to?
How come the lite flight stuff is no good? I only went with pololu originally as I was in a rush and couldn't get hold of them from the US in time. I think it's easier to get them now as some of the UK suppliers stock them. I'm usually weary of us stuff because it not usually metric so you have to fork out more to get the tools to put it together.
I'm planning on going to UK beetle champs next and was thinking of taking a couple of robots but still waiting for kinematic to decide when it is. It's hard because I have a feeling it will be short notice and then a rush to get everything running and organised.
the hubs are just too small and there's not enough wall for me to drill it out to widen it and trying to match up polou hubs to the lite flight wheels is a pain. I'm sure they will be great with those small fingertech motors though if i ever wish to drop down a class i guess. I reckon i could have a first attempt finished soon so you never know i might be able to enter.
Got you a picture of the Pololu stuff since you're Skipdivings official biggest fan :D . You just order it all off Technobots and it screws together.

they'd look good in this :D

Perfect! Thank you very much! I think they should go back in that :P Do i get a T-shirt? lol
Lol I'll see what I can do.
Emergency featherweight building for Manchester in April. Decided to try a similar build to the video John Findlay put up. Drill modding and an off cut I found in the free to a good home thingy in B n Q.
Edit: Prob will be 2wd pusher highly low budget, battery from somewhere, an old 2x12 sabertooth
and my radio.

See u all in Manc bright and early :)
Don't worry...I have bin bags ready...

Oh it's beautiful!! XD See you at the event!
Right so learnt a lot at manc. Namely that Low Budget 1 was naff but was a massive learning curve. I'm over drills, so have a propper drive train that I need to take a picture of. I'm building an invert-able brick for Low Budget 2 but have ordered everything pre cut to up my game. I'm going to put my old albums on imgur after my photobucket fail. So this time is propper drive train, lipo, need an esc still, dx6i, ally box section and ally top and bottom. I'm not building a wedge but the idea behind the construction technique is Gary Gin and Original Sin.
Moving on up the weight, getting better at feather then going back for another go at a heavy just for live events to the same design.

Oooohh, looking forwards to this one. ;)
Will be naff like the others lol.
My fav building blog is back! Not naff, just rustic mate :D Any weapons?
Was just going to be a super fast ram bot. Toying with a hammer but not sure.
Are you sticking with Gimson motors or trying something different this time around? If it is going to be a ram bot, 4 wheel drive perhaps?
Erm it's just a ram bot without a wedge to see if it glances off spinners. Which is really what's built to fight. And I'm giving these a try randomly

with skate wheel hub adapters and wheels. Whole thing was like £30 or so delivered and just screws together stress free.
The big thing I should mention, is that if I stay away from a wedge I just need a quick box, in which case any 12v motor setup I can get cheap and find hubs and wheels for should be enough to bash along at a decent rate and hit someone. Obv if it's rubbish you learn and get something better for the next robot.
Fair enough, can't imagine it'll take very long to make mobile. I've not heard anything bad about those sort of motors so hopefully they'll serve you well. ;)
Yeah well if I was building a big wedge it would need speed 900 drive or something similar to pick up and push. I can't make that myself so was looking for another idea within the realms of possibility.
any chance of a pic of the skate wheel setup? sounds interesting
Is the skate adaptor something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIY-Electr...0AAOSwoA9ZhBVv
Had my eye on them for a while but didn't know if anyone else used them. I was sort of hoping that they weren't on peoples radar yet ;)
The motors are linked above, hubs are

and wheels are

It's in a box in bits as it just showed up. I'll put it together tonight if I can or over the next few days if not to show you it all together. Thanks for the interest in my robot.
i tell you what, that looks like quite a nice little set up! the wheels and hubs look pretty robust. I didn't know electric skateboards were a thing but that's certainly peaked my interest now, looks worth a shot for the price.
I should mention the skateboard hub adapters have different options, ie. 4mm shaft, 6mm shaft. The version I've linked is 4mm but I have 6mm to go with the motors I ordered.
