Robo Challenge - 2013 FRA UK Featherweight Championships!

All, really sorry but work commitments mean that Vortex is going to have to stand down - a real shame, but those of you who know me know I have a fairly hectic work life these days ! Really disappointed (as had been looking forward to being a roboteer for a change not a commentator, and also seeing GSL which I've not been to before) :(

Did already warn Grant some time ago that this was a risk..... another time - I know from James/Grant there is a waiting list of teams/robots wanting to take part as space was limited.

Have hotel room booked at Holiday Inn Express at NEC, PM me if anyone's in need of a room !

Was lovely to see the excitement that Vortex making a return after 10 years created, you might just have to wait one more year. Hope that someone deserving can benefit from the place.

That's a real shame Ed, I was genuinely looking forward to fighting it :(.

How many spare spaces are there ? I was not sure if Grabberer's place had been filled or if anyone else had dropped out.

Quick question whilst you're here Ed; were you planning to use those purple skirts for Vortex? I saw them in a video and just wondered if it still had them.

Yes it still has the skirts - sometimes run with them and sometimes without depending on what it's fighting. We're actually looking at bringing them back for Storm II to try to deal with all these pesky flippers.

Hopefully a disappointment for mean will be a positive for someone else who can now attend !

How do people sign up for the Annihilator?

After your qualifying day we ask the people who get knocked out if they would like to participate. We choose 1 of each weapon and then invite you to take part. The current Annihilator champ will automatically be given a place too.

Providing I don't get into the next round? Or do I get included anyway even if I do qualify for the next round?

David, realistically it would need to be if you don't get through to the next round. because there are alot of Annihilator fight's it would mean that you wouldn't have enough time to charge and get ready between each annihilator and competition fight sadly :(

I knew i should of put some money on vortex pulling out...

Well I spent the best part of yesterday and first part of today making a new weapon to add to Carcinus. It looks absolutely lovely yet menacing. All that was needed was to wire it up, until I put it on the scales and the total weight was 14.9kg :roll:
Any chance we can rush through a weight limit increase to 15kg by Friday chaps? Lovely jubbly :kiss:

The bot won't failsafe on the DX6i/ AR6210 DSM2 setup ive got at the mo. I ordered an OrangeRx R615 to replace a burnt out OrangeRX on Friday and it should have arrived today but as i cant guarantee it wont arrive in the morning, is there someone who is attending on Friday who could potentially lend me a compatible Rx which will failsafe correct. Im using the throttle and elevator channel.

yup! doesnt like it at all.

Any chance anyone has a spare CO2 bottle they could bring along? Something smaller than a standard paintball bottle as even after modifying it I can't seem to fit the bottle into the robot. Would be a shame to pull out because if such a stupid thing :(

Thanks Ceri, but I've got a load of standard bottles, needs to be a bit shorter and thinner than standard :(. It's only be the slightest margin too, very annoying. If no one has one ill bring the robot along anyway and see if anyone else can shoehorn it in there.

Also, my robot is suffering from some idiot related problems, so I doubt the weapon will be running.

We're using the 6ch ones, but failsafing is a bit of a black art. Technically these only failsafe on the throttle channel but sometimes you get lucky with the ESCs noticing no signal and returning to idle position.

Not quite Ironconkers standard, but still. It actually spins. I mean it broke, but it did spin.

So does this pass Tec Check?

I used one last year that only failsafed on the throttle and they let me compete, I was just last to arm up each time.

I got a new Orange Rx, found the trick to make it failsafe properly was to get the Rx light flashing in bind mode but before you bind the Tx, you remove the bind plug. It carried on flashing and you bind as normal on the Tx

Do we have to pay to park at the NEC if we are competing?

For once I'm ready early, everything is done and together, just got to put it all in the car Friday night, can relax now.

In the past it's always worked that we park in the north carpark (N) or which ever you're directed to/is open and then you collect your Exhibitor passes from the RoboChallenge guys which get you free parking. When you leave the attendants see it on your dash and let you through,

Well that's me, Pedro & James here. That's the UK champs bit sorted. Anybody else is just a bonus.

just wandering do the benches have plug sockets near by or on them or do i need a long extension lead

Last year I brought one but didn't end up using it- I would still recomend it though as sometimes it an be hard to find a place to plug in your charger and depending on where your bench is, the sockets can be quite at away.

A long extension reel is more beneficial. There may be a free socket on/near your bench but it's not always guaranteed. Everyone also decants off everyone else, so it's best to have your own extension bar too, so that if you need to unplug something, you don't end up unplugging half the pits tables :p

Regarding arrival, if James or Grant are on the forum tonight I'm sure they'll clarify this, but usually you:

- go to the security gate nearest the hall that you're wanting access to (Hall door 9.1 for us)
- they'll tell you where to go to get a loading pass (usually car park N12(?) up at the top of the complex)
- return to the security gate with your pass, they'll let you through to unload
- once unloaded, take your car to one of the car parks. We usually get car passes that exempt us from the parking fees which, as PJ said, you just leave on your dash and the car park attendants will wave you through.

Well that's the theory, Jamie. Despite being out third attempt they still managed to argue the toss.
