Ive not checked the KJ count, but apart from that Id say you need to get the weight down.

For Mounts, electronics etc. 8 kg is not much, and you need twice the amount of cells you have now really.
Given the dimensions you gave on the disc, it would be 5 cm thick. you could halve that, making the disc somewhere around the 15kg mark (it would still be 1 or 2.5cm thick), and use the remaining kgs for batteries and mounts etc.

I would have liked to have seen more batteries in there. Right now you have the bare minimum for the 2 magmotors, but you still have a Lem to feed as well.
Apart from that I think you will be ok.
the lem will be surprisingly easy to run. it wont use that much power when spun up. might take a bit to get started tho but as long as its spinning it shouldnt use up that much power. envy runs 3 nicad pacs and can run a 3 min fight with ease using mag c40 motors.
C40s take less power than S28s do, according to the stats of the manufacurer. And I recall Envy runs on 24V. On 36V the power goes up, but so does the current consumption (more amps are drawn for motors to come to optimum rpm).

can anyone explain how these work and what benefits they might have?
I was wondering something...I was intending on stealing something from Aaron from a project I am involved in, and was wondering if I could know more about hydrostatic drives and if there were any asdvantages over electric drives?
I was thinking of this thing copied from Aaron:
Drive: The drive is a hydra-static drive train. It has a 42HP Honda CR125 motor bike motor (2005 model) with a custom made swash plate hydra-static pump bolted to the motor output shaft. The hydra-static drive provides full motor torque at 0MPH right up to 40MPH (Electric motors and normal hydraulic drives cannot provide this feat, if you google hydra-static, you€™ll find out why). 6 x 120mm wheels that are 100mm wide provide the maximum traction when coated in 15mm of Urathane Rubber (Volcalon).

Basically there is no difference between hydraulic and hydrostatic motors. The one version controls its speed through speeding up or lowering the rpm of the pump, while hydrostatic keeps the pump going to maintain the same working pressure, and a valve regulates the speed and direction.
Advantages:
- Even at 1 rpm you get maximum torque
- very precise motor control
Disadvantages:
- You need more parts, so it is heavier than just a pump and motor.
- 1 bubble of air and the system either doesnt work or with way less power, even chance of damage.
- Chance of leakage is big. one leak, no pressure, no drive.
- you need to keep the pump going at all times to keep pressure up, so it takes more battery power.

What sort of power would I be looking at from such a system though? And (this might be a stupid question) is there any problem with using standard hydraulic rams in a hydrostatic system?
The same power as from any other hydraulic system, there is no difference there.
And yes you can use hydraulic rams in a hydrostatic system, in fact most diggers do.

You can use tempest for the other fighter. Stats below.
Tempest Evil-est-oution
Shape: Ring spinner.
Speed: 12 MPH.
Dimensions(dh): 80CM X 25 CM
Armour: The spinning ring is 1.8 CMs of Ti. The base and top are 1.5 CMs of polycarb, giving a total armour weight of around 63 KGs.
GC: 1 CM.
Weapon: Ring spinner powered by two Lem 130s and spinning at 1000 RPM to deliver 83 KJs per hit. The four hardox teeth are 10 CMs long with two being placed near the top and two near the bottom.
Drive: 2 wheeled, driven by S28-400 magmotors.
Srimech: Invertible.
Notes: Has an absolute buttload of shock proofing inside. Everything is firmly bolted down, with layers of rubber between everything. Added to that, the teeth have a backwards curving shape which maximises the distance it will throw itself away from the opponent. The reason is twofold. First is to make ramming and flipping it difficult, but the main reason is to bleed away kinetic energy backlash, by using that backlash to move the robot externally rather than internally.
Strengths: Hits hard and is hard to hit. Not much is getting through the armour.
Weaknesses: Should the spinner fail, it€™s pretty much screwed.

Right, this is my first attempt at designing in a while, bear with me :proud: Im trying to redo my squad somewhat, but for now is a new creation, as yet unnamed and unstyled because I intend on scouring the horse racing listings later and ripping off one of those.
WEIGHT: 100kgs
DIMENSIONS: 115 x 70 x 20 cms (not counting the wheels but including the spike)
SHAPE: Invertible brick with wheels protected from the side
DRIVE: 2 Husqvarna 3120XP petrol chainsaw engines, one for each side of the drive, modified somewhat to lose excess weight with expansion tubes fitted to increase their power, to a peak of about 10hp each at high speeds, which translates roughly into lots and lots of torque when geared down suitably. These engines drive through belts six 440mm diameter go-kart wheels with puncture proof foam rubber tyres that provide very good traction and a degree of suspension, coated with silicone rubber for ultimate grippyness.
BATTERIES: 1 4ah NiMh pack that powers the reciever and control electronics/servos for the engine throttle and failsafes
SPEED: 15-20mph average, 25mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 70mm all around, even when inverted
ARMOUR: Most of the body (front. rear, sides and base) is an 8-14mm titanium monocoque construction with Weldox and polypropylene reinforcing at certain weak areas, with the top cover being made of 5mm carbon fibre/polypropylene honeycomb material over a 6mm polycarbonate sheet.
WEAPONS: A single front 15cm hardened S7 tool steel spike, reinforced and shock mounted from within the chassis and sharpened to a dangerous point at the end, used for impaling other robots armour and pushing them around with. The spike is adjustable so it can point downwards if the opponent is lower than 17cm.
NOTES: Components are heavily shockproofed to withstand the force of its own and others attacks. Innards are protected by aluminium foil to reduce the fire risk
STRENGTHS: Lots of power, high ground clearance means it will not be affected by driving on wedges, and combined with the wheels means it can probably drive over the top of robots even if there are spikes there to stop that
WEAKNESSES: Petrol driven, no active weapons

BTW, 200mm body+70 clearance at bottom+70 clearance at top = 340mm. Wheel diameter - 440mm :wink:
Using a chain-saw engine for drive, havent that in a while, you need quite a bit of gearing

The point of the high ground clearance is to combat wedges, as it can just go straight over the top and retain traction with something because youd find it hard to get the wheels off the floor.

and theyre off! Axe-to-fall trying to rush tempest before it spins up to speed, but tempest is faster and axe-to-fall now has a large gash down its left side.a grin is forming on franks face as martijn panics and another great gash appears on axe-to-falls front.
Axe-to-fall pushes the pit release button,almost catching tempest out and there is a time where frank thinks its all over.he turns it with all his might and tempest just misses the pit. Tempest wants revenge and charges at axe-to-fall who moves out the way...

Tempest hits the wall of the arena and ricochets away...has that done any damage? NO IT HAS NOT! Axe-to-falls party is stopped dead as tempest finaly gets its revenge and slams into axe-to-falls left side
