It shouldn't make much of a difference to be honest. The gap is only small, and we actually had a few panel's last year like it as we had to do some last minute repairs.

I like your thinking :wink:Quote:

Hopefully our forks can't get jammed in it, then...
The gap will be to big for NST to get stuck in it, besides it was one of my wheels that NST smashed off that totaled one of the screens. Might make it easier to get robots pinned against the wall but as it will be the same for everyone it wont make any difference.
Just been looking at vids from the open day, and the gap looks inch perfect 8)Quote:

A two drill drive wedge with angled enough sides could take NST out. Wedges have been causing spinner upsets since the start of this sport.
Man up and run your robot straight at the bar. Best way
Don't get putting the idea of wedges into peoples mind Ellis - There's plenty of them haha
I tried that and left the arena in 6 pieces. Got the same issue again with LS4 in my first fight this year but at least this time its not made of plastic, the armour is sloped at 45dgrs and... I have a plan!Quote:

It's simple, what you do is build your machine out of scrap for £100, drive straight at them and then win. ;)
If I was going to the champs I would have a go at NST, he's the only robot to smash me up (he did it back in 2011 and that was like 10+ pieces even though he was immobile!?! ) and I've had some serious upgrades since then 4mm steel wedge, no wood etc. considering the wedge is like 35 degrees wasn't that like the best angle for flipping spinners? I don't care if I win, I just want a good go at it! With out him going easy or being immobile! Will have to wait untill next year though!
Wow, 25 pages of posts and we're still two weeks away.
Anyway, just been looking over the draws again and wondering if there has been a bot selected yet to replace Grabberer? Otherwise it's just Carcinus on its own against LS4, and I will be actively commanding my dad to drive down the pit
Yeh I'd quite like to know too.
who is staying where, looking to stay friday and sat night down near nec , looking to see if we could meet up for drinks etc, and for hotel advise
Got asked by grant if I wanted to put 540 in to take the spot but I want to keep it for whiteboards plus I couldn't drive both it and boner in the competition.
Adam, we're booked into the Premier Inn Tamworth Central. Everyone seemed to be there last year but it seems more scattered about this year. However you can be guaranteed that everyone will be meeting up for drinks on the Friday/Saturday nights :)
Hi Guys
I didn't get chance to finish the UK Champs info on Friday as I was out of the office. Will be sending it out early next week.
Predator is still in bits. The new ballscrew has arrived from our sponsors at Moore International. Very helpful team there and hopefully they will be coming along to the UK Championships to see how the machine performs. Fingers crossed its finished in time!
Hi Guys
I have just sent out the details for the 2013 UK Championships. If you have not received it please do let me know and I shall get it sent over.
Was really hoping the weather would warm up before the champs so I can get in the workshop!
are we allowed to weld in the repair zone or is there somewhere else for that
also im not fight on fri but we were intending to get the later in the day are we still ok to sine in and watch
no welding has been done before as there is a window letting people seeing what you do
they could always install a curtain over the window
probably wont need it just rather be covered encase a weld doesn't hold
No welding on site I'm afraid. Repair zone is for angle grinding, soldering and big hammer bashing :)
You are more than welcome to attend the Gadget Show Live on the day you are not competing to watch the other group however it's not possible to bring your tools/robots unless you are competing that day. This is to avoid crowding the tight space that is the pits area.
ok thanks will have to buy a bigger hammer then
Nothing some gaffer tape and cable ties won't sort out!
James, how will we get the access cards on the day? We might come on Friday to have a look at the rest of the event but you guys will be busy prep'ing for the first set of qualifiers.
Just out of interest, how strictly is the 'clear your pit table for the next day's competitors' rule going to be enforced?
I remember last year that those who arrived on the Saturday really struggled to get a space due to a lot of the Friday robots still being there. Not to sound moany and self-interested, but with two robots to run on Saturday, I don't really fancy doing what the likes of Calum and Jonny had to do last year and use my toolbox as a pit bench.
Ditto... David was very kind and shunted up for us last year (were were basically sharing the same slot) but with a second machine that won't be possible this time.
At the rate we are gaining entries were are going to need a bigger venue next year! Or we will just have to ditch the bloke selling drills and Gazebos and pinch his spot
yeah last year was a bit of a squeeze pits wise, wouldnt taped out pit zones help? 1 per robot sorta thing to keep peoples stuff in equally sized bays
20m / 50 robots... 40cm, nice, robots can be packed side to side :P
Won't make a difference if people don't move their robots after Friday :P
We've got two robots so based on half a table per robot, that's one table we'll be using up. If it makes anything easier, I'm happy to form a 'tag-team' with another 2-robot team qualifying on the Friday and just let you keep your stuff stored under that particular table on the Saturday. Tempted to make a wooden shelf/stand for the table as well, just something that can sit over the robots and provide a bit of extra space, pimped out with LEDs of course.
20m between about 25 robots as we are not all in on the same day... gives 0.8M per robot! More than enough!Quote:

This year we have added more pit space and increased the number of tables from 12 to 16. This should give everyone half a table per robot with a lot of room spare. It is VERY important not to just take up a full bench or two like a number if people did last year, and even more so to remove your robots after your competition day. It's not fair on others who are tight for space when they are competing. We will be very strict on this! We have allocated extra tables to allow for whiteboard robots etc, but please be aware that we still need to be careful with these things.
We got their late last year and found all the pit space was gone on Sat, there should be enough for each team! Don't make me put my name on it!
There's was plenty of space allocated to each team last year, 3ft. The issue was people leaving their tools/robots there which will not happen this year. Any team that does will be deducted points. A big difference is we have had teams with multiple robots qualify on the same day with both machines where possible. This way people won't have Fridays robot under the bench while competing with their sat robot. This was fair and understandable however did take up more space.
