EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Yes, I'm back writing :uhoh: And yes, I am aware of unfinished ones still here. Don't worry, I've already hypoed the main one, but am writing out the other two as they're shorter. I hope you'll enjoy this :proud:
I€™ve obviously been out of action for a while - any of you miss me?
Given that when I was doing GCSE€™s I was finding it hard to do a big competition, the fact I€™m almost going into A2 work means that you€™ll ever see a main competition completed properly. However, just for giggles, here€™s a little mini set of tourneys to keep me going. Don€™t worry, I€™m gonna hypo up my other ones, but this will be full out.
There will be 3 main competitions here: Annihilator, All-Stars and Challenge Belt (bare in mind that the original big versions of these will have nothing to do with thse results) but go ahead.
Now for the arena:
The Arena
The €˜WreckTaGon€™ is a hexagon shaped arena with three starting squares, coloured gold, green and blue. Originally, it had very little in the way of hazards, and still does, but these are very deadly - we still have the flipping spikes, and we also have the impaling spikes, set in sets of 5 on each wall of the arena, each made of Hardox and designed to cause serious damage.
The pit release button for this arena is located on the bottom right side of the arena, with the actual pit being a mere 2 metres behind it. Added hazards include the saws mounted into the floor to throw other robots away ala Battlebots style, and vertical flywheels behind each starting square - they weigh 25kg and spin at 1000rpm, each off immense damage capacity.
The arena is indestructible, with the floor being made of 50mm Hardox, with 3mm of polished Stainless Steel over the top of that, making the floor impossible to damage and VERY SLIPPERY! The walls are also made of 25mm Hardox, and are 65cm high, giving everyone the ability to flip someone OOTA! The arena (from a birds-eye view) is 25metres down and 27metres wide.
The line-ups is going to be like this:
ANNIHILATOR x 2
Yes, I am doing 2 of these bad boys: one at the start, one at the end. I€™ll be taking 2 robots from 6 people and stick them in different Annihilators, and it will be a standard Annihilator to find the champion of each one.
If you have an issue with the way the sign-ups work for this or anything else, be fully oblieged to complain until I give into peer pressure and change it.
CHALLENGE BELT
Obvious how this works as you€™re all RW fans. One-on-one continuously until someone defends the challenge belt: 3 wins to keep one outright. 9 people enter, I will decide the first holder and the subsequent order of challengers.
ALL-STARS
Bit different here. Obviously you all know the layout, but like with my other competition of this, you have to have a robot with a notable tournament reputation, like semi-final or quarter-final even in a Minor.
12 people enter 1 robot each, and it works like this:
ROUND ONE: 3 x 4 way melles: 2 go through from each
ROUND TWO: 3 1v1s, 3 go through + 3 way losers€™ melle, where one goes through
ROUND THREE: 2 1v1s, 2 go through
FINAL: Final two robots fight for victory.
The Entry-Rules
€ Wheeled robots must weigh a maximum 100kg
€ Shuffling robots weigh a maximum of 110kg
€ Walkers weigh a maximum 135kg
€ When you enter, give me your hometown (if outside of the UK, tell me the country as well), and a link for your robot stats, so I can find them!
You can beat your opponent by the following:
OOTA (flip them out the arena)
Pitting (Obvious)
50% drive working (moves only on one side)
Stacking (Placing the robot on the wall in a position they can't get out of)
JD (beat them on Judges Decision)
The Judging System
Basically, I've invented my own system - has 6 catogories, in which I mark out of 5 (shared mark i.e 3-2, or 5-0). I then times that score in each section by how much the section is worth:
Dominance = ? x 6
Damage = ? x 5
Aggression = ? x 4
Stategy = ? x 3
Control = ? x 2
Style = ? x 1
So here you go, enter at your (and my own  ) peril.

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Looking good Paul, this seems to be more on your scale :) I'd like to claim a place, and also reserve a place on Andy's behalf in everything if that's okay with you (and, indeed, with him ;P)
Annihilator entries:
N³
Falling Down (stats up soon)
Challenge Belt entry:
Eye of Ran III (or II if III still isn't done, in which case I will apologise profusely and arrange to have myself killed)
All Stars entry:
Gabriel V (I presume this is acceptable?)
I think you know where my stats live by now :) My hometown is Pontefract, although that may be subject to change as I'm (hopefully!) going to Lancaster University to study Earth Science with Geography in October.
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Yeah, sure. Andy Jackson isn't it? OK then sure.
And good luck, I'm sure you'll make it there :proud:
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Hmm...looks right up my alley. :D
Annihilator
Tira VI
The Alexandra Sisters: Retribution
Challenge Belt
Macduff the 5th
All-Stars
Wedginator X
I trust you know where the stats are, Paul? :)
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Yep, got them. Oh, btw, Kody, be aware that (I think I forgot to put this in the rules but yh) if one part of TAT is gone, then the whole robot will be out, keeping with the rule that 50% working drive in regular robots warrants a KO.
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Could i reserve please Paul
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Yh, of course Lian, why wouldn't I? :talker:
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
I'd like to reserve for all competitions if I may :) only for a short time, as I'm on my phone right now, but I'll use the computer to post up entries when I get home tonight :)

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
As promised ;)
Annihilator
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ompression.jpg
COMPRESSION
BODY SHAPE: Low box with angled rear and sloped sides
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS (L X W X H): 85cm (90cm with wedge and claws) x 95cm (130cm with claws) x 25cm
COLOUR: Polished to perfection, the claws are gold with red tips
LOCOMOTION: 4 x 270mm go-kart style wheels with aluminium hubs and vulcanised tyres
GROUND CLEARANCE: 10mm, protected at the front and sides, 10mm at rear
SKIRTS: A 5mm hardox hinged wedge at the front (between the claws) that flops over when the robot is inverted.
DRIVE MOTORS: 2 x A28-400 magmotors run @ 24v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 4 x NiCad battlepacks running @ 24v in parallel
SPEED: Can reach 25mph to batter opponents around, but is kept to 15mph when driving around
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: 3.2mm hardox monocoque for the most part, with 5mm hardox extra protection in key areas such as battery mounts
CHASSIS: 3.2mm hardox monocoque
WEAPON 1: The front horizontal Kan Opener-style crushing jaws are closed completely via a vivoil pump powered by a LEM-130 motor @ 36v, the hydraulics are at 3000psi giving 4.5 tonnes of crushing force between the tip, this is interchangeable for a pneumatic setup powered from a 3kg bottle and 2 x 100mm rams at 725 psi each. The claws themselves remain the same in both setups and are tungsten tipped with serrated edges
WEAPON 2: The hinged wedge between the claws beaches opponents with the Mute-style barbs it has so that the opponent can be pushed around while the claws keep hold, this is perfect for pitting robots because the wedge will flop over the edge of the pit so when the claws let go the opponent will fall straight in.
SRIMECH: Can run inverted
STRENGTHS: Powerful weaponry, can end battles in seconds due to grab and pit using the weapon synergy, fast, good armour
NOTES: Just a slight re-freshening, getting rid of the silly triangle shape, spikes and bosches. Known for a while as Compression 1.1, but I'm not keen on that name.
THEME SONG: Beast And The Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold
and
http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...m/Vertigo1.jpg
http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...m/Vertigo2.jpg
VERTIGO
BODY SHAPE: Box with 60* wedge at front and angled rear ala Tornado. The sides are sloped at 45*
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS (L X W X H): 80cm x 75cm x 20cm
COLOUR: See CAD
LOCOMOTION: 4 x internal wheels, made of aluminium with unrethane tyres. Each is exposed from the top and bottom and is 22cm in diameter
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the wedge, 8mm at sides and 10mm at rear
DRIVE MOTORS: 2 x A28-400 magmotors @ 24v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 4 x NiCad battlepacks @ 24v in parallel
SPEED: 18mph
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: 4mm hardox monocoque, flipper/top panel is
6mm.
CHASSIS: 4mm hardox monocoque. The removable panel is the top one.
WEAPON 1: The whole top panel is a full pressure flipper, powered by a 100mm ram @ 725psi from a 3kg co2 bottle, providing plenty of flips and a lot of power, similar power in fact to the modern Kronic the Wedgehog.
SRIMECH: The robot is invertible, but the flipper can be used to right it if needs be.
STRENGTHS: Powerful weaponry, tough armour
THEME SONG: Bodies by Drowning Pool
NOTES: Another robot designed primarily with ARC in mind, Vertigo was built to take advantage of the weapon/armour rule there, which would allow Vertigo to have a high powered flipper and very tough armour while not sacrificing much in terms of drive power. It surpassed all expectations, reaching the semi-finals and only losing to eventual champion Tank there. Again, thanks to Area51Escapee for this CAD :D
Challenge Belt
http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/.../exotherm2.jpg
http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/..._2009/exy2.jpg
http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/..._2009/exy3.jpg
EXOTHERM
BODY SHAPE: A bit like Nightmare, see picture
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS (L X W X H): 100cm x 71cm x 57cm (with disc)
COLOUR: Yellow and black, silver disc
LOCOMOTION: 2 x sturdy 7mm hardox wheels with vulcanised tyres
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the front hinged wedges and rear shocl-absorbing wedge, doesn't really have a ground clearance elsewhere due to the shape
SKIRTS: 2 x hinged wedges at the front
DRIVE MOTORS: 2 x A28-400 magmotors running at 24v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 4 x NiCad battlepacks running at 24v in parallel
SPEED: 20mph
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: There isn't really much armour, so where there is armour it's 6mm 10% titanium/vanadium alloy. The front wedges are made of 6mm hardox.
CHASSIS: Steel Ladder
WEAPON 1: A 500mm diameter vertical flywheel with curved blades that are part of the disc itself so they can't be ripped off. It can reach a top speed of 2500rpm in 2.5 seconds courtesy of a LEM-200 at 60v, the disc itself is made of titanium, is 1cm thick and weighs 31kg. It spins upwards to flip as well as rip.
SRIMECH: Invertible, and the disc can rotate 10 degrees up and down so when flipped it can quickly and easily adjust so that the wheels touch the floor.
STRENGTHS: Hard to attack, damaging weaponry, good armour
NOTES: I was given this robot by Spatula over on ARC, as he no longer wishes to compete. It was originally a lightweight, but has now been scaled up by myself to compete both on the FRA and in the heavyweight division at ARC, where it managed a battle ratio of 4/5.
THEME SONG: Best of You by Foo Fighters
All-Stars
EQUINOX
BODY SHAPE: Box with 30* wedge at the front and angled rear ala Tornado like >. Sides are 45* to deflect spinners.
WEIGHT: 100kg
DIMENSIONS (L X W X H): 95cm x 70cm x 9cm
COLOUR: Dark blue with yellow skirts and forks
LOCOMOTION: 4 x internal wheels, each is 80mm in diameter and has vulkalon tyres for grip. They are mounted on a slant ala Tazbot for extra control. Instead of one in each corner they are mounted at the rear and middle of the machine, with two ball castors in the two front corners. This gives very good manouevrability, allowing Equinox to really glide around the arena like Panic Attack.
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the wedge, effectively 0 at sides and rear due to skirts, but 10mm behind them.
SKIRTS: 5mm grade 2 titanium skirts at the sides and rear, joined by 4mm hardox hinges to stop them breaking.
DRIVE MOTORS: 4 x A28-400 magmotors run @ 24v
DRIVE BATTERIES: 4 x NiCad battlepacks at 24v in parallel
SPEED: 15mph, designed to be very fluidly controlled
TURNING CIRCLE: 0 metres
BODY ARMOUR: 6mm grade 5 titanium/vanadium 10% alloy monocoque. The removable panel is the top panel, but this is mounted on rubber bolts, rendering axes and hammers useless.
WEAPON 1: Running down the front wedge and flat along the floor are two 60cm long lifting forks, each powered by its own linear actuator, capable of rising to full height in 2 seconds, fast enough to be effective, but slow enough for controlled lifting.
WEAPON 2: Running along the top of the robot are two sets of Mute-style tungsten carbide barbs to trap opponents. Also hinged at the rear of the robot is a 95cm long clamping arm with a serrated tungsten tooth at the end of it, this is powered by an S28-400 magmotor @ 24v and is usually raised to vertical and then used to clamp opponents in place, can be used in unison with the lifting forks and barbs to good effect.
SRIMECH: The clamping arm can right the robot in 1 second, because it has a large hardox fin towards the rear half that allows it to self-right over the rear skirt.
STRENGTHS: Excellent manouevrability, controllability and pushing power, weapon synergy, tough armour
THEME SONG: Meet Me on the Equinox by Death Cab for Cutie
- Equinox came 3rd in Steven's point based tournament, which was a minor, so I hope that kinda counts? :P
Hope that's all okay :)

There's places available in the Challenge Belt/All-Stars, but none in the Annihilator. If one of the reservies (Martijn and Lian) haven't placed their robots in the Annihilator by the time that All-Star and Challenge Belt places are filled, I'll give you one of their places.

Now guys, what I was thinking is that since the Annihilators are now both filled up, I can start with them, as I've already begun the introductions of the first Annihilator, and for the All-Stars and Challenge Belt, people can sign-up in the continuing moments of it.
Btw, since I have no idea where Lewis Matthews is from, I've currently had him down in the Annihilator as coming from Hell :proud: I know it seems funny, but I would genuinely like to know the place he's from.
Here's the first Annihilator line-up for those concerned:
Annihilator ONE:
Nidhogg Cubed vs. Tira VI vs. Vertigo vs. Wedga Ennea vs. Axe To Fall vs. Metallic Doom
Tactics, predictions, further sign-ups and each of your opinions on the beautiful and sensitive music of Nickelback
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Right...hoo boy, I easily see this one going downhill. Two powerful flippers, a horizontal crusher, a vertical crusher, and an axe to contend with. I'll concentrate on either Wedga Ennea or Metallic Doom, as they have nice flat sides for me to hit. Due to the nature of the 'wings', if my targets get hit they'll be in a world of hurt as they'll be totally trapped. And at any rate Metallic Doom can get very little, if any, purchase on Tira's very angular body. Still, keep an eye on Nidhogg³ as it looks to be the most dangerous. If (and only if) I'm feeling particularly gutsy I'll attack Vertigo head-on, try to catch one of the horns to toss it over and make it waste CO2 self-righting. It's invertible but I might be able to drain its weapon that way. But all in all, if my disc is spinning, just go out and **** 'em all up. :)
Good luck everybody.
EDIT: I prefer Nickelback's 2001 album Silver Side Up rather than their newer material, thank you. :P
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
I agree Kody. I mean I only own The Long Road, but SSU is deffo their best Album - The Long Road has great sound, but sucky lyrics, except for in Figured You Out, but most of the other songs are about the same thing, and it's lame, All The Right Reasons has the best lyrical content and musical style except for SSU is better :proud: and Dark Horse is just an adrenelynn charged ball of drugs, sex and rock'n'roll...AND I LOVE IT!
Additionally, by the far the best song on that Album is either Hollywood, Never Again, Too Bad, and maybe How You Remind Me - don't get me wrong, HYRM is great, but the others are a bit more interesting sounding, and more fun to listen to
Anyway, Lian, I've recently found that Metallic Doom is overweight  The type of robot it is, is a shuffler, for which the weight limit is 110kg. It's a rule in virtually every vapourbot tourney, and will have to find ways of shredding pounds. By the way, even if you try to say it is a walker, the weight limit for walkers is 135kg, so you'd still be overweight :lame: Looking at stats however, it doesn't seem like it should be that heavy. Mayhaps turn to Kody, or others, for help, or you'll have to replace Metallic Doom with another contender.
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Munch for the challenge belt please and I don't think I have anything worthy of entering the all stars.
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
I don't care if you don't have anything 'worthy' for the All-Stars Jordan, all I care about is you entering in anyway you can. For that, I thank you :proud:
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
I think All Bar One won two Mark Elam fights if that counts :proud:
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
You know what: yh, it does :proud: I still count the Male Kram (nickname returning win :proud: ) that my own machine Knyfe won in it's accolades, so yh, why not lol 8)
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
My hometown is Liverpool :)
As for tactics... Try and stay out of trouble, and then dart in for a sneaky OOTA when the opportunity presents itself - try to get somebody as they're attacking somebody else :proud: I'm open to team-ups here.
Looks to be a good show Paul :D
Edit: And oh yeah, I like Nickelback :) Awesome chill out music.
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Hmm...team-ups?
Change of plan: team-ups are good, team-ups are w00ty, Lewis would you like one? You flip 'em, I hit 'em. :D
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Wicked. I'm glad I now know where you live. I'm guessing that Hell would be quite different to Liverpool  but ya never know lol.
And additionally, after taking a look at Metallic Doom's stats, I not see how it could be a 150kg robot:
(here are the stats if anyone disagrees with me):
Metallic Doom
Weight: 150kg
Shape: A low box ala Drillzilla.
Colour: The left half is red, while the right half is black.
Dimensions: 107cm x 95cm x 17cm
Drive: 2 36.3v LEM-130 motors powered by 11x A123 Battlepacks
Locomotion: 2 Drillzilla-style shuffling feet, giving Metallic Doom good traction and pushing ability.
Armour: 3.25mm hardox
Speed: 20mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front, 5mm elsewhere.
Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: A pair of horizontal crushing jaws, each which looks like the one used by Suicidal Tendencies, powered by a Vivoil Pump and LEM-130. Each jaw has a 2:1 ratio giving it 9 tonnes at the ram and 4.5 tonnes at the tip.
Srimech: Invertible.
Strengths: Nothing wrong overall.
Weaknesses: Average everything.
Bio: The 6th Team Blood Mages(a subsidiary of Death Robotics) creation is rather average overall...
Win/Loss Ratio: N/A
I think, to be enitrely honest, what you've built is perfectly within the 110kg limit. If anyone agrees with this, then awesome. Basically, if it's fine with everyone looking at these stats, and not seeing a 150kg robot, but instead a 110kg robot :lame: then I will continue with keeping Metallic Doom in this competition. Not not, then you know the score (and if you don't know the score, the score is Metallic Doom will be removed from the competition and replace with another Team Bloodmage member  )
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Hmm...I believe it's time I got back into checking, even though this is not my tournament (forgive me). So here I go...
Based on some calculations, I also fail to see how Metallic Doom can be 150kg...
The MatWeb material calculator tells me Metallic Doom's body armour is around 60kg...
Since I can't make too good of a calculation on hydraulic systems, my estimate is that the weapon armour and system would be around...20-25kg.
I don't know how many 'battlepacks' of A123 cells Lian is using :P but since he's got 11 packs, he'll outlast everybody, I think. I believe what Lian meant was 11 A123 cells, not packs. He would want 4-6 packs...let's go in-between with 5. A123 cells weigh around 70kg.
70g x 11 cells = 770g.
770g x 5 packs = 3850g, or 3.85kg.
Since LEM130s weigh 3.1kg and he uses two of them, that's around 10kg of power. The shuffling pads would be another 5-10kg, and miscellaneous bits (such as nuts, bolts, wiring, speed controllers, etc.) would be another 5-10kg.
60kg + 20-25kg + 10kg + 5-10kg + 5-10kg = 100-115kg. So yeah Lian, I think Paul is right.
Okay I'm done...
-
Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
Wicked Kody. I'll then enter Metallic Doom into the Annihilator, as that 5kg isn't really worth the effort removing this late-in. Everyone, I'll get the first round up asap, so quickly, MORE TACTICS PLEASE!! :D

Team-Up sounds good Kody :D

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
OK, with the posted tactics (two of them :proud: ) I wrote this just now. The longest fight I've written, I hope you'll like it: with all this in mind:
LET THE EYE OF THE ROBOT-EXTREME EDITION BEGIN!!!!
Annihilator ONE:
Nidhogg Cubed vs. Tira VI vs. Vertigo vs. Wedga Ennea vs. Axe To Fall vs. Metallic Doom
From Pontefract, Nidhogg Cubed!!
Entered by Joey McConnel
Here€™s the Welsh pork to shove away our British Beef! This robot is an Elongated triangular pyramid ala Lightning design, with double weaponry: at the front, a pair of beautifully designed lifting forks to hoist robots from their safety, so that they can become the victims of the crusher weapon - so powerful, that through the hydraulic power going into a 92mm bore/70mm piston ram, Nidhogg can produce 8 tons of crush at the tip; then again, what did you expect from the Norse dragon? The drive comes from a new notion of vapourbots - no electrics; powered by a 7.2hp 80cc Stihl disc cutter engine driving two separate hydraulic pumps, one of which runs at 1200psi and uses proportional valve gear to control speed and direction of the two hydrostatic drive motors, Nidhogg has more torque and power than the average Voltage machine. Speeds of 12mph make for good control, but the €˜luck-based€™ rollbar styled self-righting mechanism may be its downfall here.
From Toronto, Canada, Tira VI!!
Entered by Kody Kunz
Game characters may up part of childhood€¦but not if they were anything like this mistress of mayhem! The bizarre design of this robot is an effect use of mixing a slanted body shape with plenty of wedges with the TAN type of design by having a large width to trap robots in her hold, and putting a spinner on the front: a 13kg Hardox disc to be precise, spinning at 1250rpm and providing 45kj worth of pain! The LEM130€™s in this machine make for quick accelaterion with 13mph speeds. Add in a front-hindged self-righting flipper with CO2 power, and Ti/V alloy armourment and you have a strong contender. However, the self-righting mechanism only has 15 shots, which could leave Tira indefinitely on her back (not dutty at all).
From Liverpool, Vertigo!!
Entered by Lewis Matthews
This robot is an ultra high-flyer - even Gordon Gekko is envious of him! A standard invertible box-wedge shape with thick Hardox monocoque armour - 6mm on top and for the weaponry and 4mm everywhere else - with top speeds of 18mph coming from powerful 24V MagMotors, that is already enough to gurantee success for this machine. But make the said €˜weapon€™ a powerful CO2 flipper powered by a 3kg bottle making for many flips, and the ram is a 100mm ram at 725psi and you have one of the most powerful flippers in vapourbotdom (new place). The 4 wheel drive layout makes for the right balace between control and traction, but the invertible design leaves the axes and crushers laughing and smiling at the idea of how to bring down Vertigo.
From Bourne, Lincolnshire, Wedga Eenea!!
Entered by AJ
Wedga Eenea είναι η condender να αναÎηÃ„à ®ÃοÃ…με εδÃŽ, και εÃεί θα ÀιÃÄεàοÅν Ã΀ι καλÃÂÄΠÃÂα - this literally translates from Greek into €˜Wedga Eenea is the condender to look for here, and you'd better believe it€™! A heavily armoured design here, with Titanium/10% Vanadium alloy monocoque, 7mm for the main body, and 10mm for the flipper weapon. This is a revert back to the Wedge design but mixing in the high-wedge design, the ninth edition of Wedga has been designed for control, further using 4 wheel drive to achieve this. Powered by AmpMotors at 26.4V for speeds of 16mph, it is a nippy, controlled machine which is more than capable of using it€™s extremely powerful full-pressure CO2 flipper, which is stored in a 2.2kgs canister, via two 1.1kgs buffer tanks. The output of this weapon is 1100kg, which is powerful, but unskirted 8mm side and rear clearance may leave Wedga at the mercy of fellow wedges.
From Enschede, The Netherlands, Axe To Fall!!
Entered by Martijn Benschop
Named after that great Queen song, this hopes to sing the song of victory! Axe To Fall is a half cylinder robot with 4 Vulcanised wheels powered by 2 x LEM130€™s at 48V, giving roughly 24hp! And to compensate this is a 5kg double-headed axe on top of the machine, it€™s a steel 80 cm shaft with two diamond edged blades made of Hardox on the end of it. The blades are pointed to maximise piercing on the other robots. The axe is powered by 2 x Nitrogen bottles at 1000psi, a 1 kg buffer bottle and a 30 mm bore ram, for fast and furious hits, with a down force of almost 2 tonnes! The armour is 8mm Titanium on the front with the rest of the robot made of 15mm Polycarbonate! The speeds are 15mph, and the front and rear wedges are very good at pushing, but it can only axe things from the front/rear!
From Nottingham, Metallic Doom!!
Entered by Lian Walsh
Here comes the shuffling metallic of doom - only akin to Pandora€™s Box! This is a shuffler, which means that this robot has greater overall traction than wheeled robots, leading to a greater ability to push. Then again, with 2 x LEM130€™s at 36V - that provide an 18hp capacity - and 20mph top speed, it€™s powerful just based on that! Throw in the weapon, a pair a hydraulic crushing claws designed for piercing that give 4.5 tons at the tip and 9 tonnes at the ram, it may never need the speed or power! Harox armoury will make it hard for weapons to get in, but the pads are vulnerable to overhead attack, and a 5mm clearance - unskirted on all sides - may result in doom for Metallic Doom!
Booth #1: Joey McC, Kody K
Booth #2: Lewis M, AJ
Booth #3: Martijn B, Lian W
Roboteers, stand by!!!
3€¦2€¦1€¦activate!!!
And everything is happening at once: the blade of Tira is spinning up to the max speed, and the two fastest machines in this match - Metallic Doom and Vertigo - are speeding into the arena centre. Tira has now fully spun up, and crashes into the side of Metallic Doom, and SPARKS FLY, as does the machine itself: it lands upside-down, but with no external damage. Lian quickly scuttles away from trouble, in this case the Liverpudlian laucher that Veritgo and also Tira. Elsewhere, we€™re seeing Nidhogg in battle now, trying to get a hold on Axe To Fall, but Martijn€™s control is too good for defending against Joey€™s constant charges. We haven€™t seen much of Wedga Eenea yet€¦until he hits the pit release button to let the Abyss open. But this attracts the attention of Martijn, and he rams into the rear of Wedga! The axe comes down and smashes a bit into the Ti/V alloy armour, not making a huge hole, but maintaining a grip on the Wedge shaped flipper. Just as this is happening, Metallic Doom is taking on a joint way attack by Tira and Veritgo: Vertigo is in underneath the rear, and€¦FLIP! Great attack by Lewis sends the shuffler flying into the disc, again leaving no damage, but Lian has a lot to pull back from. Elsewhere, Axe To Fall still has Wedga in his clutches, and is dragging him about the arena€¦but Martijn seems unable to finish him off, but a knock from Nidhogg removes him from the axe-clasp. Wedga looks free€¦but not anymore, as now he has two robots pressing onto him: BACK AGAINST THE SPIKE STRIP! As the axe and crusher come into play, it seems clear that there are two primary targets within this battle now: Metallic Doom and Wedga Ennea. However, unlike its more experience counterpart, Lian€™s shuffling machine is putting up quite a nice fight, as he drives back onto Vertigo and crasps him tightly; and he powers him along the arena with his superior traction, and shoves him forcefully against the spinning disc of Tira, and scratches appear on the rear. Kody smiles, as he€™s not only noticing how little damage he€™s taken, but also noticing the tyrant of abuse reigning down upon AJ€™s machine, as the Axe of Axe To Fall comes in again, now making a great hole in the top armour surrounding the flipper! Metallic Doom now rams Vertigo back onto a wall, further scratching the rear. Backing up, and ramming into another wall! Metallic Doom now has to let go of Lewis, and backs away! But this allows Lewis to charge in€¦AND UNDER! But he can€™t seem to get the shufflers traction far enough off the ground to do anything€¦so incomes the Canadian spinner and WHACKS into the side of both machines again, causing plenty of sparks and FINALLY some damage appears, as a large chuck of metal is yanked out of the claws of Metallic Doom! Meanwhile, Wedga has finally made space in the arena, for the first time in the entire match - almost all of it has been spent in the area near the pit release button moving towards the Green square: now in the arena centre, as Nidhogg comes in, and gets straight under the flipper, and lifts up the flipper, and SLAMS him into the spinning disc: dents appear in the rear and Wedga is thrown up and over. But look at this, a massively powerful flip sends AJ in a somersault back onto his wheels. Excellent style, but it€™s so far the only thing we€™ve seen of the dented, beaten and punctured machine, and here comes Axe To Fall, who seems to have grown tired of taking on AJ now seems to be going after Tira, and slams the axe onto the Hardox body, making a nice slice but nothing more. Wedga is still pinned in by Nidhogg, but now is hoisted up AND DRAGGED INTO THE DISC AGAIN! More dents, and AJ is starting to fear, as we haven€™t seen him get a proper attack in yet. Kody, on the other hand, has stayed quiet yet strong, but now Metallic Doom is coming back on the attack, and knocks Tira€¦FLIP! Kody has been thrown over by the spikes, but he€™s quick to activate his self-righter€¦but what€™s this; Lian has comes the attack on the topped disc again, and the claws go into the weight-down holes in the disc€¦AND THE ONCE SAFE TIRA IS DRIVEN BACK€¦BOOOOM! I don€™t believe this: Tira€™s gone! And speaking of robots nearly gone, Wedga is finally free, and runs into the arena centre, and squares up to the other flipper Vertigo, and gets underneath€¦FLIP! Somersault on Vertigo. AJ finally gets an attack in! But now Axe To Fall comes in once more, and the axe hits in€¦and now CO2 is venting! AJ definitely has taken some abuse, but he still survives€¦possibly just!
Result:
Tira VI is defeated, and has to retry the level once more!
NIDHOGG CUBED, VERTIGO, WEDGA EENEA, AXE TO FALL AND METALLIC DOOM GO THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND!!!
ROUND TWO
Nidhogg Cubed vs. Vertigo vs. Wedga Ennea vs. Axe To Fall vs. Metallic Doom
Send in tactics, comments, predictions and some bandages for Wedga Eenea :proud: *Note please I didn't actually notice that Wedga was getting that badly pounded. I was trying focus two different mini-fights into a big fight and that's just the way it came out in my mind. Sorry AJ, it won't happen again* :talker:

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
w00t for me, p00t for my fallen teammate :(
Exciting match though Paul :D
As for tactics... well, now I'm on my own... I guess I'd better ask if anyone else wants to team-up :proud:
If no one wants to team up with me I'll try and avoid Nidhogg at all costs, and maybe try and flip one of the others out of the arena, or Nidhogg itself if I see an opening. I don't want his crusher going anywhere near my wheels though :P Otherwise, just flip whoever.
Good luck guys :)

Re: EYE OF THE ROBOT - Extreme Edition
w00ty fight Paul ^^ I think Nidhogg's tactics will be to stay out of trouble, really, and stay away from the hazards and walls and go for any good opportunity here and there. I'm willing to team up with other people if they are in kind :)
