Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
It was dark in the Annihilation Stadium. The arena had been cleared after the second round of the 1st annihilator of Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation, and all the bots were in the pits. The audience had left for the break and the studio lights were off, hence the darkness. Suspended above the arena in a lexan box hung the presenter€™s booth, and inside the Annihilation Trophy. In the excitement of Wedga Triton€™s defeat nobody noticed a dark figure slip into the control room and take the trophy from its place, and the intruder left undetected. However, minutes later the theft was realised and the tracker€™s trace was found - a trail of footsteps leading out of the Stadium and into the wilds of the Robot World. 4-6 courageous roboteers and the robots that they can conveniently transform into when they need to fight were sent after the thief and recover the trophy before Annihilation ends, which with Lewis€™ current writing rate is quite probable. Will the warriors find the thief by following his footprints and asking anyone they may come across if he has been spotted? And what will they find when they catch him?
The Robot World is split into 4 continents - Robot-War, Battlebot, Robotica and Mechanical Maelstrom (the latter being where the quest begins). The thief could have made it a reasonable distance away by now, and he must be caught quickly. Are you up to the challenge?
A minimal 4 entries are needed, but 6 is the maximum, entry deadline is a week today. To enter you must supply character details in the following format:

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Chapter One ~ Mechanical Maelstrom City
Lewis gathered his team of 6 expert warriors outside of the Annihilation Stadium to speak with them one final time before they embarked upon their quest.
€œNo one from here as ever entered the wilds of the robot world before, you understand?€ Lewis asked them
They all nodded €œThe danger doesn€™t frighten me€ said Jack
€œYes€ agreed Mark €œI will do whatever it takes to retrieve the trophy!€Â
€œThen go on your quest€ said Lewis €œI wish you the best of luck, and don€™t worry that your robots are on this quest while competing in Annihilation, the fanfic world is a strange one!€Â
€œIndeed€ agreed Joey €œThough I am quite bamboozled to how I am suddenly able to both transform into Nidhogg Cubed and yet drive him myself simultaneously...€Â
€œYes yes whatever€ said Lewis €œGet after that thief, we don€™t have all day you know!€Â
And with that he vanished in a puff of smoke.
€œThat was odd€ remarked Joey
€œWell you heard him!€ barked Mark €œWe€™ve got a thief to catch, let€™s get going!€Â
And so our heroes turned their backs on the Annihilation Stadium and walked down the crowded streets of Mechanical Maelstrom city, encountering on their way Martijn Benschop in the form of Sheer Heart Attack 2, showing off for his many fans. This city was familiar to them, and they knew that no harm would come to them while they stayed here, but it was clear the thief had left the city as the trail of petrol left by the thief led them through the city slums, where robots like Sumpthing and A-Kill lived and through the city gates, into the wilds of Mechanical Maelstrom country. However, the guards at the city gates were not too keen to let them pass.
The gates were tall and wide, made out of tough tungsten carbide bars that would prevent them making it through, and either side of the gates stood Jason Dante Bardis and Mark Joerger on one side, Mike Flanagan and Mike Regan on the other.
€œExcuse me gentlemen€ said Jordan €œWould you be kind enough to open the gates for us?€Â
€œWe cannot€ said Mark Joerger €œThe wilds of the forest beyond these gates are terrifying and awfully dangerous; you don€™t stand a hope of surviving€Â
€œWell the thief we are following travelled through here€ said Tracy quietly €œYou must have let him pass€Â
€œNo thief passed through these gates€ said Mike Flanagan, tooting a bicycle horn loudly and making Joe jump €œThe guards who did the morning watch would have stopped anyone€Â
€œWell explain the trail of oil!€ said Kody
€œYou are not in any position to make demands€ said Jason Dante Bardis, normally a friendly guy €œYou do not want us as your enemies, we are all from the ferocious country of Battlebot!€Â
€œOh please€ drawled Kody, rolling his eyes sarcastically €œDr. Inferno Jr is a lightweight, you don€™t stand a chance against us!€Â
€œOh yeah?€ smirked Jason €œIf you want to fight, bring it on, but I really suggest you don€™t€Â
Encounter!
1) Jason Dante Bardis/Towering Inferno
2) Mark Joerger/Run Away
3) Mike Flanagan/Conquering Clown
4) Mike Regan/Brute
Do you fight these four guards, possibly making yourself known criminals if you do, or try to find another way out of the city?
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I show them my Subway card briefly and claim to be a Mechanical Maelstrom City Council petrol trail inspector, and demand in the name of the King to be allowed out?
...
I'm in favour of finding another way out, I don't want to run low on petrol before the real battles start :P
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I say don't fight, chances are it will only make things more difficult later on (more people to fight.)
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
And I don't believe you gentlemen have met my AK... *Points AK at 4 guards*
In all seriousness, try, since I'm an American, to get them to let us pass. If that doesn't work, then try to find another way out of the city. There has to be another way, although if it came to fighting, then we could easily beat them...
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I'll go with the general decision...meaning find another way
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Also in for the general finding of another way out.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Chapter Two ~ The Way Out
Our heroes looked at one another questioningly, unsure what to do. But nobody wanted to be fighting this early on, and who knew what the consequences might be if they were to fight their own protectors?
€œFighting is pointless, we have enough enemies already€ said Mark to the guards wisely €œLet€™s go guys€Â
Jason Dante Bardis looked on as the heroes walked away, wondering if he had done the right thing. Mike Flanagan on the other hand had no qualms and merrily tooted his bicycle horn in farewell, much to the irritation of Mark Joerger.
€œNow what?€ wondered Tracy aloud as the heroes walked away
€œWe€™ll have to find another way out€ said Joey thoughtfully €œSurely there must be some other way out of the city?€Â
€œI know of a way€ said Mark €œBut you won€™t like it€Â
€œTry us€ said Kody €œI€™ve seen a lot of pretty bad solutions in my time€Â
€œThe sewers€ said Mark €œWe can get into the pipes and then make it back to the surface when we are on the other side of the wall€Â
€œNo way!€ protested Joey €œHaven€™t you heard the stories about what€™s down there? I heard there are terrible drainpipe machines with insane names, like Japanese Fighting Tortoise!€Â
€œSounds frightening€ agreed Jordan
€œBut we have to retrieve the trophy€ Tracy reminded them €œIf the sewers is the only way out, then that€™s the way we€™ll have to go I€™m afraid€Â
€œI suppose you€™re right€ said Jordan, with Joey nodding slowly in agreement €œWe€™ll have to move fast, we€™ve already wasted a fair amount of time€Â
And with no further ado Mark seized a nearby pothole and dragged it open, holding it up for everybody to jump down. Tracy and Kody courageously moved forwards first, jumping in and landing below before calling up to the others to let them know it was safe.
Jordan and Jack were next to take the plunge, and did so, before Joey reluctantly followed and Mark jumped in after him.
The sewer was dark and wet, nobody liked it, but Kody was clearly not too bothered and led the team down the pipe. However, as our heroes progressed further and further along they began to hear strange noises further down the tunnel.
€œWhat is that?€ asked Jack
€œHopefully we won€™t find out€ replied Mark €œLet€™s keep moving€Â
Jack glanced nervously behind him, but there was nothing there and he carried on with more confidence.
Eventually they began to reach the end of the pipe, but as they had feared something blocked their path.
€œWho goes there?€ called Kody to the strange shape that lay before them
All they heard was the whirring of a disc, and an oddly shaped arm raised up into the air.
€œWhat is it?€ whispered Tracy
€œDefinitely a robot€ answered Kody quietly €œI€™m just not sure what...€Â
Encounter!
1) ???
Do you attack this odd creature, or attempt to converse again?

I have to put some things like that in... I find it hard to take these RPGs seriously, even my own one right here :proud:
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I up for talking to it first (pointless fighting something that could be friendly) then fight it if we need to.
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Try to get someone else to talk to it. Failing that, try to do it myself.
I would rather not fight the thing, but not knowing exactly what we're bothering here, be ready to fight just in case.
Also,
Quote:
€œNo way!€ protested Joey €œHaven€™t you heard the stories about what€™s down there? I heard there are terrible drainpipe machines with insane names, like Japanese Fighting Tortoise!€Â
Win.
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Talk to it. If we must fight, I'll take most of the hits and allow SOTAR/All Bar One to spin up. Then, I'll flip the monster into SOTAR/All Bar One and watch its parts fly. If the thing's too heavy for me alone to lift, call in Wedginator to help, followed by I.A.N. After the machine is disabled, have N3 hold it over the sewer and threaten to throw it in of it doesn't tell us what it knows... :proud:
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
*agrees with general concensus of attempted talking first, possible fighting after*

Chapter Three ~ A Familiar Face
Jack was ready for a fight and wanted to morph straight away, but Jordan stepped in his way and called out to the dark shape that lay before them.
€œWe come in peace€ he said €œBut bear in mind there are 6 of us and 1 of you, we will fight if we must€Â
The outer rim of the shape spun again, and then it rolled out of the darkness...
€œRevenge of Trouble & Strife!€ exclaimed Kody €œI didn€™t expect to meet you down here!€Â
€œNor did I you€ said Revenge of Trouble & Strife €œWhat brings you to this part of Mechanical Maelstrom?€Â
€œWe€™re on a quest€ said Kody €œYou see, the trophy for Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation has been stolen and we need to retrieve it before the tournament ends!€Â
€œInteresting€ said ROT&S
€œYou wouldn€™t happen to have seen any shifty looking characters would you?€ asked Joey
€œNo one has passed through here for days, and I haven€™t been above ground for a while€ said ROT&S €œBut why are you down here Kody? When we were at RAF Newton all those years ago you never expressed any care for the dirtiest places around!€Â
€œThe guards wouldn€™t let us pass€ Kody explained €œIt was either fight them or come down here€Â
€œThose guards are pretty lame€ said ROT&S €œMy clan and I crushed them when we decided to leave the city€Â
€œYour clan?€ inquired Kody
€œYes€ said ROT&S €œYou wouldn€™t know of course... I presume none of you are locals of Mechanical Maelstrom City? You all came for the tournament I presume?€Â
Our heroes nodded.
€œWell€ began ROT&S €œConditions for the people living in the city are quite bad these days - sure it looks great for the TV cameras when there€™s a tournament going on, but the government has become corrupted, aiming only for fame and money from the Mechanical Maelstrom Championships. The only bots that live there now are the ones that either benefit from the fighting or can€™t get past the guards€Â
€œBut why do you live down here?€ asked Kody €œYou€™re surely not that fond of sewers either?€Â
€œIt offers safety and shelter€ said ROT&S €œPlus there are some un-used chambers off the main pipes that provide good living quarters. Come to think of it I€™m sure some of our bots have been above ground today, why don€™t you come back with me and ask around?€Â
€œI€™m not sure we have time...€ said Kody €œWhat do you think guys?€Â
Everyone looked at each other, but nobody said anything.
€œWhat use will going on blindly do you?€ asked ROT&S €œHow are you following the thief?€Â
€œSo far we€™ve been following a trail of petrol€ explained Tracy
€œThat won€™t carry on much longer€ said ROT&S €œOnce the thief entered the forest you wouldn€™t be able to follow them, the vegetation is far too thick and dense€Â
€œOK then€ said Mark €œWhat harm can it do?€Â
Revenge of Trouble & Strife then morphed into Peter Forsey and led our heroes further down the pipe, but instead of climbing up and out of the sewers they turned left and headed down a narrow passageway that eventually opened out into a massive chamber that ROT&S had described. The chamber was packed with about 40 people, some easily recognisable as famous roboteers while others were from the more obscure side of robot combat. However, their entry into the hall was not received well by the people already there. One man they didn€™t recognise immediately complained to Peter that our heroes would not be offered hospitality just because he knew Kody of old, and that they would have to prove they were not spies in €œthe Mechanical Maelstrom way€Â.
Peter turned to the heroes €œI€™m dreadfully sorry€ he said €œThey are demanding that three of you meet our leader, the Baron and two of his guards if you are to stay here with us tonight and receive our help€Â
The heroes looked at one another.
€œWe don€™t really have any other options...€ said Jack
€œWho is the Baron?€ asked Tracy
€œPeter Halloway€ said Peter €œUnless you know his robot form I am not at liberty to disclose it, and I am unsure of the guards. But I need to know, will you accept the challenge?€Â
Encounter!
1) Peter Halloway/???
2) ???
3) ???
Will you accept the challenge, winning the respect and help of the sewer clan if you are victorious, or try and follow the thief through the forest however difficult it may be? Remember, if you are to fight the Baron then you must select 3 warriors as the Sewer clan are proud believers in fair fighting.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Given Dominator III's penchant for breaking down and the fact Mighty Mouse punctured it, I'm willing to take the challenge and fight if needs be :)
-
Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I'll fight too. If Dominator's as weak as Joey says it is, then this should be a pushover! *Looks at RoTaS* No offence to you, of course.

what I meant Kody was that 3 of you must be selected to fight :P

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
Three-on-one pretty much is ganging up on him... :P
But never mind, I wasn't specific enough so I'm still in the wrong here. :P Anyway I'd like to be one of the fighters, Joey and Jack I think should be with me on this. Anyone else have a suggestion?

There are 2 other unknown enemies...
But anyways, if I was organizing which of us was going against the enemies, these would be my picks:
1)Jordan Brown/All Bar One vs Peter Halloway/Dominator 3
2)Kody Kunz/Wedginator 9.0 vs ???
3)Mark Elam/Bandwagon 3 vs ???
Why would I choose myself, Kody, and Jordan? And why would I put these specific robots against their opponents?
1: Dominator 3 is weak against spinners. We saw this with Hypno-Disc, and what could he do against something more powerful? All Bar One will easily defeat Dominator 3.
2: Kody's robot is quite rounded. It's tough against spinners, tough against axes, can survive piercing claws, and is more efficient then any flipper it'll face.
3: The same things said about Kody's robot can be said about mine, although I have tougher armour and am less effective against flippers. Also, if you want to have a chance of seeing me die first, it's a good idea to let me fight.

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
I thought it would be a massive 3 a side free for all :D
Now that would be fun ...

Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Devastation
it is a 3 on 3 match, not 3 one-on-ones
