28th December 2009 - Robots Live - Snibston Discovery Park

Robot Live are returning to our roots for a return to Snibston Discovery Park in Coalville, Leicester (about 4miles from our Whitwick venue). Our first public event was held here back in 2003, we will be running a similar event again. There will be fighting robots on display, antweight competition, our pay to drive system and mechanoids ect. We dont have many events like this anymore, where you can have a chat and a chance to show off any robot related christmas presents!

In 2003 we had 2000 people over the day who visited, and was attended by many robots including; Chaos 2, Tornado, S3, Pussycat, Bulldog Breed, Storm 2, Mute and it was the first appearance of Big Nipper where we all stood around saying That will never work!, how wrong we were!

Times: Are to be confirmed but probably 10am-3pm.

Venue: Snibston Discovery Park, Ashby Road, Coalville, Leicestershire, LE67 3LN

We are mainly looking for robots for static display, antweights to fight and any other robot related stuff you might have for display. Interactive robots (mechanoids, daleks ect can drive around the museum). We should be able to get you free access into the museum as well.

If I can make that date I will love to come, May bring Zacks Smarty- Pants (ant), Seraphim or Saint for static and Pilgrim, If thats ok. :D

We'll be there with our antweights and arenas, if that's OK. I've also started a topic here for the antweight community

Thats great Simon, i was just about to put a post up on your forum, but you've beat me to it! I'm hoping to get Chroma out of cupboard and get it fighting again, so i might be on there for abit of advice, as i've not fought ants for about 5-6 years!

I'm in anteights and static heavy and feather

It looks like I'll be in the country then so I'll definitely be up for attending with my variously shaped ants :)

Yep rushed the pneumatics on Thursday night so there was a leak somewhere in the bottom of the robot, but couldn't be bothered to sort it out yesterday.

thats what you get when you rush perfection :rofl:

anyways the blasted pantomime has been moved forward a day so ill be there until it ends :proud: 8) :o :) :D :P :twisted: :wink: :mrgreen:

hey its not too clear if you said whether or not the main area will b there or will it just be static display and ants, u say your wanting robots for display so no feather fights or anything?

if it will b like the birmingham event ill come along.

Hi, there won't be a large arena there, just an antweights and Pay-2-Drive arenas. Feathers and Heavies are on static display only. Also all roboteers get free entry into the museum as well.

Sorry for repeating myself, but would it be OK if I brought along a couple of arenas as well?

building an ant for toby but it propably wont be ready, it would just be nice to be
at a relaxed event as i am normally rushing about at most events.

Hi Terry, your more than welcome. Theres still plenty of space if anybody else wants to come along (we can take over most the museum if we want!). This should be a niced relaxed event where we can have a natter and show off your robots. We'll probably go for a meal afterwards, which your all welcome to come along to. If anybody whos coming has any info sheets or pics of building the robots, that sort of thing, that you could put on display along with the robots that would be great.

I've got the obstacle course all painted, just need a couple more coats of varnish.

Do you have info like start and end time and prices for visitors (I'm expecting my cousins)?

Times are 10am -5pm. Prices for admission can be found here http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/community ... prices.htm , entry to the robot zone is free, we will have free passes for the museum for roboteers, we would probably be able to swing you a couple more for family. We would like people to arrive 9-9.30am.

We have a 3 areas; the Stenson Room, this will be for the ants, with tables/power and a projector, so we will try and link a camera in so fights can be seen on the screen; Ellis Room, this will used as a theatre with DVD playing (was going to have workshops running, but thats on hold), and the balcony where the heavys will be on display with the Pay to Drive (anything too big to fit in the lift will be put downstairs).

There is a cafe, but be warned like most museums they are abit expensive. Hopefully this will be a nice relaxed event, with the chance to have a bit of fun and a natter, we're probably going out for a meal afterwards, which you're all welcome.

If anybody is able to bring info/photos of building robots, protoypes, old robots, that sort of thing that would be of interest to people, please bring it along, we'll be digging out some of our old 'bots to put on show.

lian im probs not going, any free days of my christmas holidays are being spent on either doing some robot stuff or to decorate my room lol having had no wallpaper on my walls now for the best part of 6 months starts to get annoying.

i had to do a few changes to the robot and the old claws got damaged so thought i'd go nuts and just make new improved ones:)

Hi Alan, how do we get into the museum, is there a side door ? like at most events and what time do we get there ?
