PTT - Regeneration
For some strange reason, you guys seemed to love the Pussycat Tribute Tournament, my major vapourbot contest named for the late David Gribble. While it was fun for the most part, the last tournament - PTT5 - was marred by squabbles, procrastination and decreasing interest on my part, due to distractions from school and other fan projects. In the end, I felt that I had taken on far too big a task and no longer had the time and energy for major-writing, so I hypoed the tournament halfway in. While it was a relief to bring some sort of closure to PTT5 and move on to different things, I felt a little bad ending the PTT on a whimper rather than a bang.
Thats why Im launching this mini-tournament. After the successful comeback of the VFT and the positive reviews of my own Phoenix Cup last year, I feel I owe it to you poor deluded schmoes to give you at least one more full ride on the PTT roundabout. Just remember to wipe the seats first; theyre a little dusty.
1. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- I am looking for 16 people to enter 2 Heavyweight robots and 1 Featherweight robot each.
- Entries can be either vapourbots or real robots, Im not fussy.
- The weight limits for Heavyweight vapours are:
100kg for wheeled/tracked robots (eg Tornado/Mortis)
110kg for shufflers (eg Son of Whyachi)
120kg for unclassable methods of motion (eg...I dont know...a hovercraft or something)
150kg for €˜true€™ walkers (eg Mechadon)
- The weight limits for Featherweight vapours are:
12kg for wheeled/tracked robots
15kg for shufflers
16kg for unclassable methods of motion
18kg for €˜true€™ walkers
- Flying robots are not permitted.
- Clusterbots are permitted, with no limit to the number of parts (but lets keep things realistic here). When half or more of the parts have been eliminated, the whole clusterbot will be eliminated.
- Robots with interchangeable weapons are limited to five set-ups. All must be stated in your initial stats.
- If you have a town or country youd like to represent, please put that down too.
- Basic tech rules apply for everything else.
2. TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
The tournament will be standard knockout elimination, with 4 x Heats containing eight robots each. The winner of each Heat will go through to a Grand Final Heat at the end of the series to determine the champion.
The Featherweight tournament will also be standard knockout elimination, consisting of 4 x 4-way melees, one in each Heat. The winner of each melee will go through to the Featherweight Final in the Grand Final Heat, with the winner becoming the champ.
3. THE ARENA
The arena is the Team Braveheart Wrexagon, a 20m x 20m square with a slightly triangular top and bottom, making it resemble a squashed hexagon. A pair of horizontal Pussycat-style sawblades stick out of the east and west walls, while each of the six corners contain a horrible hazard. These hazards include:
- 2 x Corner Patrol Zones, each containing a House Robot (top right and bottom left)
- The arena pit, affectionately dubbed The Void (bottom right). This operates just like the RW pit, except that within the walls of the hole lie several concealed vaccuums. This means that anything trundling by the edge of the Void is getting sucked right in! Works best against bots with weak traction. Impossible, yes, but fun.
- The Void Activation Button (top left)
- A flame grill (top centre)
- A hefty psychadelic spinning drum littered with curved teeth, also known as Killeidascope Corner (bottom centre)
The middle of the arena is now also home to the Launchpad, an arena floor flipper which fires straight upwards rather than forwards. Any fallen robot shunted onto this square will quickly find themselves eating ceiling pie.
Flipping robots out of the arena is perfectly possible in this arena; so flippers, go nuts. Any robots propped on or trapped by the walls will be deemed immobile. The walls and floor are all conveniently constructed from Hardox, so the imaginary builders wont have to keep fixing them between fights.
Follow the link for a proper peek at the battlefield: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2945/arena2009wp6.pnghttp://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2...ena2009wp6.png
4. JUDGING
Should both robots still be mobile at the end of a clash, a winner will be declared using the following system:
DAMAGE = mark out of 5, multiplied by 3
AGGRESSION = mark out of 5, multiplied by 2.5
STRATEGY = mark out of 5, multiplied by 2
CONTROL = mark out of 5, multiplied by 1.5
STYLE = mark out of 5, multiplied by 1
TOTAL ( / 50) = Damage + Aggression + Strategy + Control + Style
In the unlikely event of a draw, I will ask an Outside Judge to make his or her own decision on the fight. Both results will then be averaged to give a final mark.
Of course, this is all asuming I can be bothered writing a fight which lasts that long. :lame:
5. HOUSE ROBOTS
Ever the showman, Ive decided to let Team Coldheart join in the fun. Robot roll call!
- SURLYGIG - And you all thought Whirligig was horrible enough. A full-body spinner with a domed head, six shuffing feet and a dozen odd terrible teeth.
- MICHAEL PLIERS - Everyones favourite slasher flick lunatic. A steep wedge with sloping sides and a pneumatic hatchet.
- FAWKES - A fearsome phoenix with a diamond-tipped crushing beak. Its wings also act as a pair of hydraulic pincers, allowing for thrice the pain.
- THE TAXMAN - Nothing says fear incarnate like the Inland Revenue. A demonic bowler hat with front lifting forks and a vertical spinning disc.
- SCARLEK - Our representative from the Planet Skaro. A Dalek grunt with a front scoop and a blowtorch concealed in its Exterminator arm.
- DULCY - Fresh from the 15th Century, Dulcy is armed with flamethrower breath, ramming spikes and a rear axe tail. The neck articulates ala Warheads tail for maximum awesomeness.
- MR HYDE - The scourge of Victorian London. A low dome with pneumatic grappling arms and a powerful axe.
- SCREAM - A sleek wedge with a powerful rear-hinged flipper and a rear vertical flywheel. A piercing scream emits from the flipper whenever it fires.
- THE GRIM BEEPER - Who could make a better referee than the keeper of the robot underworld himself? The Beeper is equiped with a front plough to help trapped souls and and a fire extinguisher in his right hand to cool the flames of damnation. Just pray he doesnt touch you with his sythe - because that means youre already dead.

PTT - Regeneration
Heavyweight 1
Robot Name: Apocalypse
Shape: A Bulldog Breed-style wedge with rounded sides
Weight: 100kg
Length: 75cm
Width: 75cm
Height: 20cm
Motivation: 6 x vulcanised tyres, they are mounted on a slant like Tazbot to help manoeuvrability and are right up against the sides to take up less space
Drive: 2 x B42-500s at 48v, 60HP, powered by 8 x NiCad battlepacks
Armour: 4mm hardox all over, but 4mm aluminium on base, 5mm titanium skirts
Weaponry:
1)Rear hinged flipper, powered by 2 x 100m 1000psi non-attached rams, the flipper is pulled back down by bungee cord and can deliver approximately 2500kg of force, the wedge is angled at 30* to get right in underneath opponents and flip them high and far, the gas is stored in 2 x 2kg bottles
2)Mute style-barbs on either side of the wedge
Top Speed: 17mph
Ground Clearance: Effectively 0 at the front due to the wedge and at sides and rear due to skirts
Turning Circle: 0
Srimech: The flipper will bounce the robot stylishly into the air and onto its wheels
Colour: Blue with a red flipper
Strengths: Powerful flipper
Weaknesses: Weak-ish base armour
Notes: Plenty of shock-proofing
This will most probably be its last outing before the new version arrives on the scene, I just have alittle tinkering to do :proud:
Heavyweight 2
Robot Name: Kill Saw
Shape: Wedge with rounded rear so it can€™t get beached
Weight: 100kg
Length: 75cm
Width: 75cm
Height: 25cm
Motivation: 4 x internal vulcanised HDPE wheels
Drive: 2 x S28-400s at 24v, 9HP, powered by 2 x NiCad battlepacks
Armour: 3.25mm hardox
Weaponry:
1) Hidden in the wedge there are two Battlebox-style killsaws, each is spun by an S28-400 magmotor at 24v to spin at 8000rpm, and they come out of the wedge in less than half a second powered by 1 x 100mm pneumatic ram at 750psi. Remember how dangerous the killsaws were at Battlebots, well imagine them FAR more powerful and this is what you get
Top Speed: 17mph
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to wedge, 12mm at sides and rear is protected by 6mm grade 2 titanium torsion sprung skirts
Turning Circle: 0
Srimech: Two linear actuated arms at the top of the wedge, the purple one is for righting itself to the right and the pink one to the left so that it is unpredictable to the other driver
Colour: See Image, green with some red, pink and purple
Strengths: Powerful weapon and decent pushing power
Weaknesses: High GC behind the skirts
Notes: Plenty of shock-proofing
Featherweight
Robot Name: Werewolf
Weight: 13.6kg
Shape: Lox box with interchangeable front pieces
Length: 40cm
Width: 45cm
Height: 12cm
Motivation: 6 x invertible but internal from the side wheels, the hubs are HDPE and the tyres are polyurethane rubber. They 134mm in diameter
Drive: 2 x Dewalt Power Drives @ 24v
Batteries: 2 x 12v 2400mAh NiCads in series for 24v
Armour: 3.2mm hardox
Weaponry: The robot is a good pusher and can bash opponents around with top speeds of 22mph, but in the centre there is a Bio-Hazard style lifting arm powered by a 35w Bosch linear actuator that runs for the full length of the robot. At the front of the lifter there is a 1cm titanium scoop, 5cm wide. Also at the front there are the previously mentioned interchangeable fronts:
1) An extra 5mm hardox panel just to beef it up and defend from spinners
2) A wedge angled at 42*, made of 5mm hardox
3) A wedge angled at 30*, made of 5mm hardox
4) A pair of Wedge of Doom-style scoops, but rigid and made of 5mm hardox. The robot cant run inverted with these
Speed: Can reach 22mph when I want to really slam opponents into walls or hazards, but for driving it will mostly be kept to about 15mph
Turning Circle: 0
Ground Clearance: 0 at front with setups 1,2 and 3, 7mm at sides and rear and at the front with setup 1
Srimech: Runs inverted with all setups except no.4, but the lifter can always right the robot
Colour: Polished, like Trident
Strengths: Good pusher
Weaknesses: No damaging weaponry

PTT - Regeneration
Right, I should note I dont consider either of these to be 100% complete. Theres no battery info, for starters but there should be enough spare weight. Without further ado:
The Crashing Bore 2
Shape: Box with a wedge on front, with a sharpened front wedge extender.
Dimensions: 80 X 40 X 25 (lwh)
GC: 2 CMs at sides and rear, 0 at front. Side and rear skirts protect the sides and rear, but can be removed to fight spinners.
Weapon 1: The trap is back as ever, powered by two LEM 130s on 36 volts. This time the idea is to snap and grip.
Weapon 2: The front wedge lifts up, powered by a linear actuator. This should lift around 200 KGs.
Weapon 3: The drill is also back, powered by the same actuator as the wedge. As the wedge lifts, the drill extends to attack the base of whatever is being lifted. The drill is sprung with 50 KGs of downforce, so anything the drill cannot penetrate easily will push it down the shaft and still allow the wedge to lift. However, the drill will still push into the opponent with a force of 50 KGs.
Armour: A 3.2 mm hardox monocoque, except for the front wedge which is 8 mm hardox. The skirts are 5 mm grade 5 Ti.
Drive: Four wheel drive, powered by two LEM 130s on 36 volts
Srimech: The trap
Notes: Painted to look like it€™s a red robot with a fine layer of dust :proud:
Raging Tempest
Shape: Ring spinner.
Speed: 12 MPH.
Dimensions(dh): 80CM X 25 CM
GC: 1 CM.
Armour: The spinning ring is 4 MM of Hardox 500. The base and top are 5 mm of polycarb. There is a 1 CM Ti box section frame, with weight reducing holes.
Weapon: Ring spinner powered by two Lem 130s at 36 volts and spinning at 1500 RPM to deliver around 70 KJs per hit. The four hardox teeth are 6 inches long with two being placed near the top and two near the bottom.
Weapon 2: Two foot long blades can be attached to the bottom of the machine and skim 5 mm above the floor, with the idea being to sneak under GCs and attack wheels. This is only used as an anti-Tengu measure.
Drive: 2 wheeled, driven by S28-400 magmotors at 24 volts.
Srimech: Invertible.
Notes: Has an absolute buttload of shock proofing inside. Everything is firmly bolted down, with layers of rubber between everything. Added to that, the teeth have a backwards curving shape which maximises the distance it will throw itself away from the opponent. The reason is twofold. First is to make ramming and flipping it difficult, but the main reason is to bleed away kinetic energy backlash, by using that backlash to move the robot externally rather than internally. The shockproofing is mostly there to stop it shock killing itself upon landing.

Frank can I say that batteries should be along the lines of 6 packs of A123s each pack built to 36v. I think that should be plenty of power and room to fit them. A123s are the kiddy battery at the mo. Soon to be fitted in Thor. Just an opinion you dont have to use them. :)

PTT - Regeneration
Heavyweight 1
Name: Infusion
Motivation: 4 x 125mm wheels
Speed: 0-12MPH [25MPH under Kinetic Boost]
Clearance: 7.5mm (same inverted) 0mm at the front, the wedge scraps the floor.
Weight: 100kg
Height: 125mm
Length: 800mm
Width: 600mm
Weapon: The weapon is a 28kg Hardox spinning ring (Ala MDU) powered by 2 x D-Pack motors @ 24v (Same motors used in Shredderator). The rim rotates at 2500rpm and should spin up within 1-2 seconds. The weapon is also a storage device for the drive. The spinning rim is connected to each side of the drive via a car air conditioner clutch, when the clutches are engaged, the 31kg kinetic storage bank(the spinning rim) transfers its energy into the drive train, giving it approximately double torque and speed for 2-3 seconds until the rim starts too loose speed and energy. This extra €˜kinetic€™ boost is used to ram into opponents with the front 6mm thick Hardox 500 wedge (similar to the one on Warrior SKF but wider and less depth to it). The front wedge is rubber shock mounted to ensure it survives the biggest of hits.
Drive: 2 x S28-400 Magmotors on 24v geared 4.8:1. The drive is also assisted via the spinning rim as explain above.
Batteries: 12 x 8 A123 cell packs. 26.4V @ 27.6Amp/hour
Armour: Front wedge is made entirely out of 6mm Hardox 500, the top and bottom of the robot is made out of 4mm Hardox 500, The ring is made out of 10mm Hardox 400 with inner bracing to the perimeter bearing. Inner bulk heads are made from 20mm polycarbonate and 10mm aluminium. All internals are mounted on soft urethane mounts for shock protection.
Notes: Invertible, speed when needed and generally well controlled for a spinner. Ram or Spin, Infusion aims to win!

Colour; Black with white patches
Weapons; A pneumatic CO2 powered flipping arm that spans most of the robots length. It can throw some 400 kilos and has about 50 flips. Although the arm itself is quite narrow (about half the robot width), the flipper plate expands the full width.
Srimech: Its a both-er. It can run inverted AND self-right using the arm.
Inspiration; Ive always liked Orcas. Adding the K made it sound more dangerous.
Strengths; Weapon
Weaknessess: Hard to turn
LEPROSY INFECTION

Speed; 18mph
TC; 0
GC; 6mm. The mini-skirts hang down to about 1mm.
Wheels; 4 inner, top sticking out. Hinged mini-skirts hang from the side, and these protect the wheels from low lying discs.
Armour; 7mm titanium
Power; 3x 12v batteries, powered by S28-400 Magmotors. LEM130 motor for the drum.
Colour; A disgusting shade of lime green.
Weapons; A very large, very dangerous vertical drum, capable of reaching speeds of 4000rpm. The teeth on the drum are curved upwards so they can flip as well as damage and very sharp at the tip. There is a reason for this explained below. By the drum are two hindged wedge type devices, which drive oppodents onto the drum.
Srimech; The robot is invertable. Bars along the side and back prevent stranding. The wheel flaps, both on top and bottom, are set so the robot can still run inverted without getting stranded. Once upside down, the teeth of the drum gouge out robot parts.
Inspiration; Named after the disease which causes the skin to flake and fingers and toes to drop off...namely because the robot does something similar. The basic idea came from an episode of The Simpsons.
Strengths; Drum, control is pretty good
Weaknessess; Wheels may be vulnerable to axes
Bulldozer will come later.
