2009 Fighting Robots FW UK Championships hosted by Robo Chal

Hello all

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 2009 Fighting Robots Featherweight UK Championships on March 14th and 15th as part of the first UK Maker Faire.

The event is part of the Newcastle science week and we hope to make this the best UK Championships ever.

As this is quite a distance from our usual venues there will be no entry fee for competitors and sign up will be via our website soon.

As well as medals for the podium positions there will be £500 prize fund up for grabs! Robo Challenge will also be donating a custom made trophy to the FRA which will have the names of all the past champions inscribed on it. This will be returned each year for the champion to defend.

To up north for us unfortuantly.
Besides, Hunter is only 3mm & 1.5mm Ali, so it wouldnt stand a chance against the other spinners.

Neither would Pug, Pug has 5mm fibreglass armour. It wont last very long in there, but I might come down and watch, (and be backstage at the same time:))

I will be there on the Saturday, but got something else booked on the Sunday. If DB5 gets through someone else can drive on Sunday.

Does anyone know if Razer will be attending the event? If so, Im looking forward to seeing if I can make it there :)

Ian Lewis is our main presenter for Robo Challenge. He will be there along with Razer, hopefully doing a few demos throughout the event.

Sorry everybody but there is no room at the Inn.My phone went into meltdown last night with refugees from all over the country blagging our spare room ,sofa or floor for the weekend.However I have been in to the hotel down the road ( 5 mins walk) to see if they are prepared to offer a reduced rate on rooms for the weekend and am waiting for their reply tomorrow. More importantly they claim to have a 24 hour bar for residents :)
I will keep you all informed.

just stripped Venom down and its in a sorry shape :sad: weapon gear box is completly twisted. may need to put a less powerfull motor in and rebuild.

Any idea what time the first show will start on Saturday? Reckon we can skimp on not paying for accomodation on Friday night by just travelling down on Saturday morning. Just so we know if we would have to get up at five or six :)

10am is the first show so we would like people there around 8 30 ish. gives us time for tech checking. drivers briefing will be at 9:15am

I will try to make this one, not sure though as its close to Burgess Hill. Alpha suprised me last year by making the final, so who knows what could happen! Are you still only allowing one robot per driver?
