Use the Arena to your Advantage 1 - Bloody Low Walls
+2>Use the Arena to your Advantage 1 - Bloody Low Walls
The Concept
We all know and love those weapon-based fights. Flipper Frenzies, Axe Attacks, you know. This tournament, or rather, this series of tournaments, adds a small twist to this concept. I€™m not gonna restrict my tournaments to€¦ say€¦ only spinners. Instead, I€™m gonna make an arena that€™s essentially a spinner€™s paradise, and make it open for anyone to enter, spinner or no spinner. Heck, I can€™t force people to have a spinner in their squad, can I? :proud:
Chapter 1 - Bloody Low Walls
For this first edition, I will present you my flippers€™ paradise. The arena is an octagon with walls all around, 25 cm walls that is. Also, the walls are sloped, making a 30 degrees angle with the floor, to making shoving someone OOTA even more easy. Two of the eight walls (opposite walls) have big gaping pits waiting on the other side. The octagon is 20 m wide.
Some pointers
- Like I said, OOTA€™s are even easier than ever before.
- Weaker front- or rear-hinged flippers can perform OOTA€™s more easily.
- Stronger rear-hinged flippers can perform OOTA€™s from a larger distance.
- Vertical discs are also notorious OOTA€™ers.
- As are fast rambots.
- Important one: the walls are low AND sloped, I€™m sure something big-wheeled like Stinger could drive straight back into the arena after being OOTA€™d. (This is also why I put two pits outside the arena :proud:).
- If you€™re like €œscrew the walls, I€™ll enter a FBS and win everything by TKO€Â, be my guest.
- If you see any other advantages in an arena like this, be my guest to abuse them, be creative!
A render of the arena can be found here:
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/_MadBull_/low_walls.jpghttp://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2.../low_walls.jpg
Entrants
Yes, this being said, for this tournament I want 8 people to enter 1 robot each. I will allow real robots but I need you to give me some detailed info.
- (Omni)wheeled robots must weigh 100 kg max.
- Tracked or shuffling robots must weigh 110 kg max.
- Walkers must weigh 150 kg max.
- Flying robots are banned.
- You can explain your stats in any way you want, but there are some things I really want to know about your bot (either very detailed or roughly estimated), these are:
Weight
Shape
Ground Clearance
Dimensions
Speed
Movement type
Armour
Weaponry
Motor (or at least a rough estimation of the traction)
Srimech
Strengths and weaknesses
Any more details are more than welcome
- Clusterbots are allowed, but no part can weigh less than 10% of the total mass of your bot. If MORE than half of your bots is counted out, ALL your bots are counted out.
- Passive weaponry is allowed.
- Interchangeable weaponry is banned.
- Unfairly unrealistic robots are banned, crappy robots are allowed at your risk.
Tournament Setup
8 Bots, straight knockout, €˜nuff said.
The Battles
- The robots will fight €˜till the end, there are no judges.
- When 2 robots are counted out at the same time, a replay occurs.
- A robot is counted out when it€™s either immobile for 30 seconds or resides OOTA for 30 seconds, IF the opponent IS immobile at some point during said 30 seconds.
Reservations
Basically, I want all stats in ASAP. If anybody feels the urge to save a spot, he€™ll be given a week to get his stats in.
+2>Get entering!!!:proud:

This is a flippers paradise, so why will anyone enter anything other than a flipper?
So please welcome my entry, the robot wish uses the moon as a crash-site for his opponents...
+1>NITRO-GENE 4.0
€ WEIGHT: 100kg
€ ARMOUR: 6mm Hardox for the body. 7mm Hardox flipper.
€ SHAPE: Low invertible box with pointed sides and rear. At the front is a Storm 2 style wedge to aid in getting underneath other robots.
€ MOTORS: 4 x LEM 130€™s at 36V = 36HP
€ LOCOMOTION: 4 Vulkanised Wheels.
€ DIMENSIONS: (L) 80CM (H) 15CM (W) 60CM
€ COLOUR: Black all over with the flipper coloured red.
€ WEAPONRY: A full pressure Nitrogen powered flipper at 1000psi, using a single 80mm ram at 1000psi. The flipper is mounted in the middle of the robot, and is 20cm wide and runs 30cm up the body. Using a 3cm long Titanium strip underneath the flipper, and a heavy flipping arm, the flipper runs completely along the ground. Running on a ratio 2.8:1, the flipper produces 1800kg of force at the tips, allowing me to launch anyone away! This version has 3 x 3kg Nitrogen bottles, giving me 30 flips!
€ SPEED: 22mph
€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0MM-2CM. At the front, it is completely 0mm. On the sides/rear, its 2cm. The orginal weakness of Nitro-Gene (its high ground clearance) has been seen to by the skirts on the sides/rear. They are 4mm Hardox skirts and are joined together like BioHazard - at the corners. To avoid them breaking off, they are held in place by Hardox hinges.
€ STRENGTH: Pushing power and weaponry.
€ WEAKNESS: High speed may mean difficult driving

Me, me, Sir! I want in, Sir!
In an era of powerful flippers and pointless introductions, from the era of great empires comes a robot that is designed from the ground up (very literally) to be flipper-proof.
Ladies, gentlemen, and Frank, I give you...The Quaestor.
WEIGHT: 100kgs
DIMENSIONS: 95 x 55 x 30 cm
SHAPE: Box with wedge, only the wedge is in two sections making something of a shallow plow shape.
COLOUR: Yellow and blue chevrons, with gold trim on the edges and silver weaponry. Has The Quaestor spelled out on the side in anodised aluminium letters, and a red flag hanging from the axe.
DRIVE: 4 S28-400 Magmotors driving 4 wheels running off 4 NiCd packs at 24v.
SPEED: 14mph average, 20mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: Wheels can be pneumatically raised/lowered (using a compressed air system seperate from the axe pneumatics) to give a minimum of 0 all around (this grounds it however) with a maximum of 50mm clearance, but normally has 5mm with 0 at the tip of the body.
ARMOUR: 4mm hardox front, sides and rear with 3mm titanium and 4mm polycarbonate on the top and 3mm aluminium base.
WEAPONS: Pneumatic 75cm long steel axe on the front, running from a rack and pinion system and 2 2.5kg CO2 tanks giving about 40 hits in a match. The axe head is shaped similarly to Shunts but is tungsten tipped, weighs 5kg and can punch through 6mm titanium and dent hardox.
SRIMECH: Via the weapon, which should be powerful enough to pull it over if it gets stranded on its sides (no spikes or ridges or anything a flipper could grab on to)
NOTES: Base is coated with silicone rubber sheet to make it more difficult to push when in sit down mode. Internal components shock mounted for protection.
STRENGTHS: Very difficult to push or flip, good weapon
WEAKNESSES: Armour could be better

Use the Arena to your Advantage 1 - Bloody Low Walls
Im looking forward to this series of tournaments, it should be good fun! Ill stay logical for this one and go for GeForce.
Name: GeForce 4.0
Shape: Low to the ground wedge with sloped sides and rear.
Dimensions: 800mm x 600mm x 250mm (Length x Width x Height)
Weight: 100kgs
Motivation: Four CNC Aluminium wheels with holes for weight reducing. There are two choices of tyre that can be used on the edge of these wheels. The first choice are bonded with Vulkalon rubber for superb grip on metal surfaces. The second choice are made with standard rubber with small screws poking out for extra grip on wooden surfaces.
Power: Two LEM130 Lynch Motors on 48v powered by 120x 3000mAh NiCad cells producing 12amps.
Speed: 15mph
Turning Circle: The robot can spin on the spot using a Tornado like skid steering system.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front going up to about 10mm at the back.
Skirting: 5mm Titanium skirting at sides and back.
Armour: 3.25mm Hardox 450 monocoque.
Weapon: The main weapon is a rear hinged full pressure flipper. It is powered by an 80mm bore ram that is pumped with Nitrogen gas at 1000psi. The power of the flipper is reduced using a reverse lifting ratio that means it is capable of flipping 1500kg at the tip. The gas is contained in two 2.2kg canisters giving over 20 flips per fight. The flipper has a Titanium blade for getting under other robots better.
SRIMECH: The flipper can self-right GeForce 4.0 in a stylish 540 degree flip.

Itd have to be the one, the only...
DIE-CERATOPS RE-INVERTUS
Weight; 100 kilos
Body Shape: Wheely Big Cheese
Speed; 15mph
TC; 0
GC; 0mm at front, 3mm at sides and back.
Wheels; 2 inner, sticking out only slightly,
Armour; 8mm titanium
Power; 3x 12v batteries, powered by a couple of Magmotors
Colour; Green, with Killer Carrot style wrinkles, mouth and eyes. One of the eyes has a plaster over it, the other is a black eye. A few bandages are painted on this time.
Weapons: A huge Wheely Big Cheese style flipper, capable of flipping a tonne or so.
Srimech; As the name suggests, the robot runs inverted. Bars prevent side strandings, and the back is rounded, so stranding THAT way is outta the question. The flipper works upside down.
Inspiration; Ive always liked Dinosaurs. This is a pun of Triceratops. The Invertus part is pretty obvious.
Strengths; The ability to work upside down and still be able to use its weapon, now easier to control.
Weaknessess: Tengu VI
BIO
Orkas cute-on-one-side-pure-hell-on-tuther friend, Die-Ceratops is equally as powerful and as nippy as his buddy. In the arena, he can get to oppodents/victims in record time. Then, once his flipper is underneath them, they can kiss the ground good-bye. Of course, hes teamed with me, and I can be rather protective over him...

The Hoof:
Also known as a replacement for the 3 year old QJS.
Shape:
It€™s a simple wedge design, with curved sides and curved rear end. The front wedge has a titanium strip at the front, which is designed to get underneath other machines.
Mass - 100KG at start of match, ~ 98 KG at end of match.
Weapon - It still has a basic flipper set-up, similar to the flipper set-up in Dantomkia.
Speed - 15 mph, geared towards instant acceleration
Power - 2, S28-400 Magmotors @ 24 volts
Wheels - 2 grippy wheels at the rear of the machine, with some bearings in the underside of the front wedge, on a little lifter to raise and lower the front wedge.
Armour - 10mm Carbon Fibre base plate, where the rest of the armour is 3mm Hardox with 5mm of carbon fibre on top of that. Little pieces of lead buried in the front wedge pushes the front down.
Self-righter - The flipper
Turning Circle - A few millimetres maybe.
Ground clearance - Front wedge is 0mm, sides and rear are 10mm. Apart from the front half of the sides, which are protected with skirts, allowing some protection but not to hurt handling.
Summary - Old school flipping wedge, with a well weighted chassis giving some brilliant handling
-
Use the Arena to your Advantage 1 - Bloody Low Walls
Found it
Name: Starstorm 2
Shape: Dome, with a spike on top in the centre to allow it to self right.
Colour: Black with stars painted on.
Weapon: Full body flipper. It uses three 80 bore X 160 stroke rams, powered on 500 PSI. When the weapon fires, the entire lid of the robot shoots upwards. The aim of this robot is: Shoot it high, watch it die. Because of the shape it€™s likely to throw opponents up rather than long, meaning a high drop but it will land near me, so with decent driving I can keep getting under them as they fall. Won€™t be able to OOTA unless pretty close to the wall though
Weapon 2, more or less: Four skirts completely surround the machine. These can be raised and lowered using linear actuators. They€™re raised when cruising, but when I want to get under something, the skirt in question is lowered as I attack, allowing me to slide under nicely. The skirts can also be lowered as a defence mechanism. When lowered fully, the skirts go flat against the floor, so most wedges will go straight over and onto the dome, and can then be launched.
Armour: 4 mm hardox with weight reducing holes for the dome, 3.25 hardox for the skirts and 6 mm Polycarb for the base.
Drive: Four wheel drive, powered by two S28-400 Magmotors.
Ground clearance: Variable depending on skirt level. Minimum is 0 mm, maximum is 5 mm. Under the front and rear GC though are rollers, allowing it to move up and down ramps easily.
Turning circle: 0.
Srimech: The lid will tip it over. Thanks to the spike, this will work 100% of the time.
Extras: Contains Tempest level shock absorption.
Safety link: The top spike.
Strengths: Hopefully very high powered flipper, reliable, tough armour. The shape of the armour will make spinners glance off rather than actually damaging it. Also 360 degree offensive/defensive capability.
Weaknesses: Can be out-pushed, and like any totally new ideas I€™m only 50% sure it€™ll work. Also thanks to the flipping method, opponents will likely go up high, but not along very much so may struggle OOTA-ing a bit.

Motivation: 4 wheels, Vulkalon rubber on them
Ground Clearance: Wedge - 0mm. 6mm for the rest, but the skirts make it 0mm.
Dimensions: 80cm x 60cm x 20cm
Weapons: Rear-hinged low-pressure flipper, powered by 2 2kg CO2 tanks and a single pneumatic ram. Can flip 250kg and fires about 30-35 times in a fight. Can right it too.
Srimech: It runs upside down, or inverted.
Strengths: A really good all-rounder.
Weaknesses: First-time rookie: top and bottom armour vulnerable.

Seems like a good oppertunity to test out the new achilles, so:
Achilles
Weight: 100kg
Shape: box, slightly thicker than tornado, not double sided, sides skirted like Panic Attack, back curved for more efficient srimech (like the original hydra), front is sloped at 45 degrees and tapered inwards so that any hits to the front will go to the reinforced flipper plate€¦ See the image.
Wheels: Four internal cast aluminium wheels (similar to tornados Go Cart wheels in design but only half the width) and using treaded go-kart style tyres of appropriate diameters.
Motors: 4x S28-400 Magmotors at 24v
Speed: 18mph,
Turning circle: 0m
Armour: 5mm titanium and on top 10mm of polyurethane rubber to stop axes and crushers The flipper itself is a hardox frame and front plate (4mm) and the spatula being titanium. The internal rams are mounted onto a hardox crossbar but otherwise the top of the flipper it is now armoured with 10mm polycarbonate and the aforementioned rubber.
Ground clearance: At the front, the flipper spatula essentially gives it a 0 ground clearance, at the sides it would be 5mm but is protected by a 3mm stainless steel skirt
Weapons:
The weapon is a rear pivoted lifting arm, this has two set-ups, plus a small extra mounted weapon for either. To get under the opponent it has a Bigger Brother style lifting plate that runs parallel to the ground resting upon it that gives the machine a really low ground clearance enabling it to get under most things, the front edge of the plate has been filed to a sharp edge.
Set-up 1: Hydraulics
Uses a single hydraulic lifting arm to life opponents of up to 150 kg into the air and tip over up to 400kg. Uses a 120mm bore ram with 40mm stroke and powered using a Vivoil pump
On top of the lifter is a hook mechanism that looks like a tiny claw but performs the same gripping effect as the top mounted behemoth axe. It is not particularly sharp, as it is not designed to cause damage, just to grip the opponent it is powered by a small linear actuator.
Set-up 2: Pneumatics
The second set up is a high-powered pneumatics set-up with a single canister of C02 running at 1000psi providing the power. The addition to this set-up is a small T-shaped bar powered by an actuator which pivots towards the back, enabling Achilles to self right without using up any gas.
Strengths: Very durable, no particular weaknesses for opponent to exploit.
Weaknesses: No damaging weapons.
However, as there is no interchangeable option, Ill only use the pnuenatic setup.
