Right, here we go again...
I have got some spare time and fancy having another go at some fan-fic writing, bearing in mind my last fight I wrote was about 2 years ago, so Im going in slowly.
What I need is for 4 people to enter 1 vapourbot each, the format will be a little 4-way league, where each bot will have 3 matches. The arena will be the arena from series 6, less the house robots.
The usual stats please.
-
Right, here we go again...

Right, here we go again...
Ooh, lets give an old friend a chance to stretch its wheels!
NAME- All Scoop and No Stab Make Steve A Dull Boy (thanks to Aaron for partially inspiring the name)
SHAPE- reverse wedge with scooped front, sloped sides and slightly boxed back
COLOUR- blue
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 110cm X 75cm X 45cm
SPEED- 14mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at front, 10mm at sides n rear without skirting, virtually 0mm with skirting
ARMOUR- 3.5mm monocoque Hardox all over
WHEELS- inside robot, 4WD
POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 12hp.
WEAPONS- The weapon synergy you know and love is back. The main form of attack this time, however, is the large flipping scoop at the front. This is powered by 2 x 39mm Dia high-pressure rams, giving flipping power equal to that of Mute. OOTAs galore!
This is accompanied by the ol pneumatic axe, forward-facing and mounted on the scoop mechanism ala Behemoth...except it aint pneumatic no more! A bit smaller than previous versions, the hammer is powered by a 36v LEM-130, providing about 2kJ per wAJDidIt and almost infinite blows. No bad, eh?
SRIMECH- the scoop can easily right the robot (hopefully, the axe can, too). Also, a single spike on either side will hopefully prevent it getting beached
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag, scoop and hammer can be activated together or separately
STRENGTHS- Weapon synergy, tough armour, very good traction, nippy, skirted
WEAKNESSES- So-so manouverability?

Tactics?

Right, here we go again...
Round 1: :proud:
SYNDOS vs. All Scoop - Ill go for Steve to win here
Flick of the Wrist vs. CRUSHER C.U
My tactics for this fight is target the rear of Flick, grabbing its rear, and pushing down the pit. Flick wont damage me by ramming or deter me by inverting me, as I have a self-righting ram.
-
Right, here we go again...
I consider myself lucky, cause with a ground clearance of 0, Crusher C.U cant move itself :proud:
-
Right, here we go again...
Against All Scoop, Ill obviously aim to bring the disc into his sides and cause damage/flip him. If I do manage to overturn him, Ill try to strike the scoop as hes selfrighting and damage it. Ill aim to keep the disc towards him at all times, and if he runs at me front first, Ill try to hit him to one side of the scoop and hopefully knock him back.
-
Right, here we go again...
I consider myself lucky, cause with a ground clearance of 0, Crusher C.U cant move itself
And the fact that Crusher C.U would be easily 20KG overweight, I think youve got a good chance at winning

RANDOM MINI TOURNY
BATTLE 1
ALL SCOOP AND NO STAB MAKE STEVE A DULL BOY VS Slice n Dice on Steroids
First up, open the Pit. I should have the advantage in speed and traction here, so the plan will be to charge the corners of SYNDOS and hopefully use my weightier scoop to slip under the skirts. Grapple with the axe and either dump it down the hole or chuck it over a wall.
-
Right, here we go again...
I personally have to argue against all that, Martijn and Aaron! Robot will 0MM of ground clearance are able to move freely, and at good speeds.
And about Crusher C.U being too fat (:proud:), AJ said once that SOR 5.5 would be at least 400kg overweight. I rest my case.
This looks like a good tornument, with good robots entering.
Ps. I dont want to argue with you Martijn. Im just stating the facts.
-
Right, here we go again...
Paul, take a nife and a piece of wood. Bring the knife RIGHT down to the wood and try and move it along it, wont go. same principle for a robot with 0mm ground clearance. You could have 0mm at the front say, but the back would be high enough to allow it to move, but a flat 0mm clearance... youll never go anywhere.
-
Right, here we go again...
low ground clearance robots in real life get into all kinds of problems, because the surface they have to drive on are not flat either. The flippers and other bottomdwelling robots quite ofter tear the floor up by splitting the top layer of the floor from the rest of the arena.
If your robot is 0mm all the way round, in 99% of all arenas you are a stationary object.
-
Right, here we go again...
Thing is, that when your both your wheels and your chassis touch the floor, you should be able to move forward, only just, when the floor is completely flat.
If this is the case in Daves arena... I have spikes on my bot that scrape over the ground. Driving over a merely scratched floor will get you stranded in notime.
0 gc bots work when only one side has 0 gc (flippers), or when its caused by skirts.
But if Dave decides to let you modify your stats (Id be fine with that, youre new here after all), Id happily state that my tactics will involve me being my annoying ramming self. Go for every weaponless side and slide my spikes under. Flip, ram, repeat, pit
-
Right, here we go again...
OK - I get the point. Dave, Im puttoing my GC up my 3mm on the sides and rear, but the scoop remains zero.
-
Right, here we go again...
And just to restate my stats.
Ive seen a picture of Flick. True, it is faster by 5mph, but Im more powerful and controllable. What I shall actually do is attack the front of Flick, as I mostly will get under, and try to bend one of the forks. If I get the side, crush with all my power until I break something inside Flick, before pitting it.
And Martijn says he will fli-p and pit me. I use a hydraulic ram that is actually quite fast, and I use it to self-right.
-
Right, here we go again...
*tries to see self-righting arm on the stats of Crusher*
-
Right, here we go again...
And about Crusher C.U being too fat (), AJ said once that SOR 5.5 would be at least 400kg overweight. I rest my case.
So by your theory, if I entered a bot with 8 ETEKs, 25mm thick hardox armour, as long as I put the weight as 100kg, its all fine and dandy? I know your new here and all, but please actually try to have a semi realistic design... Martijn is the first new blood Ive seen turn up in a long time that didnt arrive with crazy entries...
And AJs statement was an exaggeration, SOR 5.5 was in the realm of realistic.
-
Right, here we go again...
But Aaron - Crusher insnt overweight! And my robot is realistic. Everything is fine and dandy on Crusher, and when this competition starts off, I will hopefully do well!
-
Right, here we go again...
Face it, Paul: it IS overweight, as are all of your other machines, and most actual roboteers would agree.
If you dont like hearing that, too bad. Its the truth. Now do somthing about it.
-
Right, here we go again...
The 12mm Ti for top and bottom alone is already 25kg. Then you want to add 5 mm tungston steel, and then im not even mentioning the sides.
-
Right, here we go again...
If you want to make a more realistic guess to weights, just calculate the dimensions of your armour, and calculate the mass at
http://www.allmeasures.com/Formulae/static/materials/http://www.allmeasures.com/Formulae/static/materials/
Select the material you want an fill in the appropriate volume. it will give you the mass/weight.
-
Right, here we go again...
A tip for the future, Paul. There arent many weapons that can attack the underside of a robot, so you can get away with a less well armoured base. Some real robots like Ruff Ruff Dougal didnt even have a base.
-
Right, here we go again...
But if you make an invertable machine there is not much choice in that matter.
-
Right, here we go again...
Sorry, didnt see Crusher was invertable. I did, however see something about a hydraulic self righter, which made me think it wasnt:lame:

Right, here we go again...
I€™ve been out of the writing game since February 06 due to various reasons (college and work), but now it€™s time, the cleaners have been busy cleaning stuff its 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark, and were wearing sunglasses, but now it€™s time for tournament which didn€™t really have a name until Steve posted his tactics, therefore roll-up for the Random Mini Tourny
*Fireworks go up*
Round 1: Fight 1
SYNDOS vs. All Scoop
SYNDOS which stands for Slice N Dice on Steroids, I think, is entered by Richard Southworth, it€™s an invertible box with rounded sides, with extra skirting, 2 wheel drive powers this little pocket-rocket to a max speed of around 5.3 metres per second with it€™s 24 voltage drive system, the bite of this puppy comes from a pretty meaty looking vertical spinning disc at the front, it will try to ram other machines into holding up the white flag to avoid taking on too much damage in the early fights
All Scoop, full name €œAll Scoop and No Stab Make Steve A Dull Boy€Â, which I€™m going to be lazy and call All Scoop is a blue and yellow reverse wedge, with twin weapons of a scoop and a stabbing axe, gas and electric don€™t normally mix, but in this case the explosion is avoided as both work together to scoop and stab other robots to push them towards the arena wall or towards the pit of doom, also known as Brian Butterfield€™s International Hotel, All Scoop has 4 wheel drive to travel at around 6.3 metres per second, so it has the edge over Syndos in speed, and with skirts it shouldn€™t get flipped, however it€™s a big old beast with flat sides, bar an anti-resting spike, so if it gets called broadside, there could be troubles ahead.
Both machines has managed to be driven into the starting squares in the arena, as the control booths rise to give both drivers the view, the announcer starts to count down:
3
2
1
Activate
It€™s a fast start from both machines as Syndos starts on it€™s imperial march towards All Scoop which is reversing at top speed towards the pit release button, but is it a wise move from the Scottish machine, as the distance between the 2 machines is getting shorter, as All scoop quickly dives to the right to get away from the front end of Syndos, to avoid damage to the scoop, a quick turn on the controls turns Scoop around as Steve moves towards Syndos, as Richard gets ready for the attack in the slightly slower machine, as both machines come together for the first impact.
All Scoop has gone for the corners of Syndos, but Richard guessed this move and turned to go head-on, as the scoop sparks as the disc hits into the Hardox of the scoop, as Steve fires the scoop, sending Syndos over onto it€™s back, as Steve drives forward to keep onto the rear end as the skirts come down to protect the ground clearance, as the scoop gets underneath, the axe fires for the first time in the battle, but bounces off the top of the Hardox shell of Syndos without leaving any major marks, the wheels are spinning on Syndos as Richard tries to get away from Steve, but it€™s in vain as the 2 wheels have been lifted off the ground as All Scoop turns and heads towards the pit, the axe comes up, as the scoop fires, sending Syndos head-over heels down the pit.
Smoke rises from the hole in the ground, as the announcer announces
Cease.
The 3 points heads towards the All Scoop camp, as Syndos ends up in the pit.
Next time it will be the turn of the other 2 machines in this 4 way league:
Flick of the Wrist vs. Crusher C.U

Good fight, David, despite the result! Ill predict Flick Of The Wrist to win the next one.
By the way, if the acronym SYNDOS is confusing, I stuck the Y in there just because it looked better than SNDOS.

I will try and do the 2nd fight this afternoon.

Fight 2
Flick of the Wrist vs. Crusher
So it€™s time for the 2nd fight, so what€™s the 2 robots like today?
Flick of the Wrist; entered by my evil-Dutch Twin, known as Martijn, his machine today is an invertible 6 wheel drive box with some nifty looking forks at the front, it€™s fast and can pack a good 100KG punch when it crashes into you.
Crusher is entered by new-comer Paul; it€™s an invertible box which can self-right, with 8 wheel drive, so it has the traction and the speed to make the twin suckers suck robots when the crushers come around on the X-axis to crush them, it€™s got some good weapons at the front, but only a rear fixed spike gives it protection, so hopefully the armour should be good enough.
Both machines are driven into the arena as the announcer begins to say:
3
2
1
Activate
Both machines are away, neither are waiting around, as both robots cross the arena sharpish, Flick turns at the final moment to get away from the front end of Crusher, as Martijn turns his machine around to give chase. Paul tries to turn his machine around as Flick of the wrist rams into the rear quarter of Crusher, lifting it up, so some of the wheels are off the ground.
Martijn sets the controls for the heart of the arena wall and rams Crusher at full speed into the wall, the forces making Crusher bounce back into the arena and back onto the offensive, Flick of the wrist flicks around and goes off to follow Crusher, which is reversing to avoid the rear end getting left open for attack, as Paul pushes down on the controls and launches into a counter-attack, the forks are down on Flick of the Wrist as both machines meet head-on for the first time.
Flick of the Wrist is underneath Crusher for the 2nd time, as the scooped front of Crusher went straight up the forks as Martijn once more lifts the forks up, but this time flips Crusher onto it€™s tail, the spike preventing Crusher from staying on it€™s tail and it falls down onto it€™s back, as Flick of the Wrist gets underneath the ground clearance of the rear and lifting up the rear end goes of for another ram into the arena wall, hitting the wall at an angle, that Crusher is sent spinning, hitting the ground. Martijn wastes no time in attacking Crusher once more and rams into the side and repeats the same trick once more. As crusher lands, Paul puts the drive into forward as it starts to move forward, but it€™s going slowly, as Flick of the Wrist goes off to open the pit.
Crusher looks damaged, it€™s barely moving, as Flick of the Wrist rams into the side once more and starts to push it towards the one remaining arena wall if hasn€™t introduced Crusher to yet, a few seconds later Crusher has said hello to all 4 arena walls, as it lands, and Paul tries to make Crusher move, but only one side is moving, very slowly, as Flick of the Wrist comes in onto the kill, lifting Crusher up for the 5th time of the battle and drives straight towards the pit to end the match.
Cease
Smoke rises from the pit, as Crusher lies at the bottom, what went wrong? It was the rams which managed to knock the drive system chains off, a simple quick fix, but Flick of the Wrist rams itself to 3 golden points.
Fights 3 & 4 will be:
SYNDOS vs. Flick of the Wrist
All Scoop and Stab vs. Crusher
-
Right, here we go again...
BLAST! Nice one Martijn - a good and effective win over me:wink:.
SYNDOS vs. Flick of the Wrist - Im predicting Flick to continue the winning streak and take advantage of SNDOSs lack of power to pit it!
All Scoop and Stab vs. Crusher C.U - Now I might score back some points! I have more than 3 times All Scoop And Stabs power, and Im faster as well. Ill go for the sides again, and crunch through to do what Flick did to me - Ill break Steves chain. Ouch!
Good Luck Martijn. You stand the best chance of anyone!

RANDOM MINI TOURNY
BATTLE 2
ALL SCOOP AND NO STAB MAKE STEVE A DULL BOY VS Crusher C.U.
Power is nothing without control, young grasshopper.
Hmm, tough and compact. After opening the Pit, the plan will be to stay away from those front snippers and attack the sides or, preferably, the rear. 3mm should hopefully be enough for my own front scoop to slip under and I should be able to get under the rear spikes as well. Im not sure how successful I would be in an outright pushing match, so my aim will be to flip Crusher C.U. towards an arena wall and chuck it out of the ring. Ill try giving it a few futile axe blows now and again to rack up some damage points.
-
Right, here we go again...
I think that if Crusher C.U and All Scoop And Stab came into a pushing match, Steve MIGHT win, as he has the low extension plate which I dont have. So to get to the sides of Steve, Ill charge head-first into the extension plate and try to bend it.
Ill actually now crush it on the chassis at the front right to jam up a wheel. After this has happened, Ill go to the rear-right wheel and jam that up.
The reason why Im reposting my tactics is Ive had a look at All Scoops stats and I dont think Ill get through the side armour.
-
Right, here we go again...
SYNDOS will simply try to keep FOTW away from my sides and whack him with the disc. Maybe I can knock him against the wall and do some damage to the top.
-
Right, here we go again...
rounded sides and rear, melike :proud:
attack thoses sides and rear at all costs
