Creative Robotics (FRA - Singapore) welcome all from Asia and the rest of the world.
Nice to see that fighting robots is still generating interest else where. Would be good if you can give us an update as to the activities on the other side of the world. As you can see we have alot of events here in the UK and else where.
HI,
I am here with Gary from Creative Robotics.
Our students may need some advice from our UK experts. I will be sending them here to get it.
So be nice and helpful to them !!!
John
Roaming Robots.
So be nice and helpful to them !!!
Im sure that the Denizens of this Forum will do so...
You could however prime them to be as specific as possible with questions and give as much information as possible about what they want to achieve or the problem they have.
Hi, Im Eugene in Singapore. Im among a bunch of aspiring robotic warriors and we are having a wild time with John Finlay who is in town to host the fighting robot workshop for a whole 5-days session. we are into the 3rd day today. Yesterday was a day of mayhem.. we had our robots, all built up of cardboards, equipped with servo & all and tearing limps off each other in the arena. Was fun & exciting. We are hoping we will have the opportunity to continue into the future & maybe have our own official Robot War TV show in Singapore. We are all excited to proceed on to built larger, heavier & meaner robots as we go along. One day we will have to fly up to the UK with our robots & fight our way to robot war in UK.. who knows.. time will tell.
We are about to start building 12kg feather weights, with weapons, we are decideing on whats best... axe, flipper, or lifter, or crusher... we are using an electric motor.
thanks
i would suggest a lifter in my opinion the easiest one. i myself use a lifter in my feather weight
however axes are cool and can do alot of damage
tell us what you choose and if it worked
i like axes :):):)
Welcome to our world .....
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.................pete.........
axes are great fun to watch but i think the crushers are best... brute force!
Only thing with crushers is its difficult to get enough power into one to actually crush a machine so they tend to be more grabers. however a good grabber can easily take out its rivals! good luck with the competition post some piccys. you never know you may be battling us some day soon!
Its great fun isnt it? We are just mid-way to completing our first 12 Kg combat robot. The main transport is finished and well thinking through what would be a good weapon to adopt. Its approaching the evening over here... looks like its gonna be a sleepless night... In the meantime, were just have driving this new baby around.. got to brush up on remote control (navigation) skill as well!! Will keep you guys & gals informed as we progress onward.
Eugene..
if the weapon is electric then mabee try and build it into a lifter to lift your opponents drive and pushing them at will. there was a sucessful robot called Panic Attack also i think jonno has a robot there called Pain in the Asp which is a very good example and 1 of my favourite feathers. i find it very exciting that there are a new bunch of budding roboteers in another country and we in the uk welcome you all to the sport of roboteering. you can check my profile for my personal email address and feel free to ask for anythink to help you on your way. you do have there 1 of the best tutors so you wont go far wrong. i will be looking here every time i log on. again welcome and enjoy battling robots :)
i cant wait to see you all in singapore one day :P
jonno, show them this 3 min video from uk champs and show them who beauty is :P

and axes are the best weapon
Hello to all you budding roboteers over in Singapore! I look forward to seeing you guys if you come over to the UK to fight your robots.
Considering youre using robot kits, Im assuming none of them have really thick, or strong, steel armour. In which case, using an electric motor as part of a crushing mechanism could actually be quite effective, and could take advantage of any thin armour protection and allow you to beat the opposition (and crush all Jonnos components in the process :))
Make a Spinner :proud:
Look at some of the clps on that video above to see how good they can be!
Hi Guys,
Wakey wakey.....:)
Its 245pm here on day 4 of 5...... thought id update progress.
Last night we had 4 working feather weight chassis finished and working... and of course they took them for a test drive.... and they ended up having a war.
Tension is building and the competition is fierce... they all are working hard to become singapore champions for 2008.
Today has been about weapons, they have learnt the theory about different weapon types.... pneumatics, hydraulics, etc....
We have 4 feather weights being constructed and each has a different weapon.
No1 - has two gripping arms which looks very similar to big nipper style.
No2 - has an electric lifter working the same way as envy.
No3 - has a lifter, or rather they keep telling me its going to be so fast it will flip. They also tell me they arent worried about their fellow students robots, they plan to seek and destroy Pain in the Asp. Yes Eugene who previously posted is their team captain !!!!
He is the singapore SWANNY... he has brought so much laughter to the course !!! Ive found you a friend mate :)
No4 has an arm fitted to the top which runs sideways, the concept to drive underneath and flick them off sideways.... like lightning used to have.
Who will win..... i dont know.... it could be any of the four to be honest !!!
We are using a big stairway as the arena.... we will be above it looking down.... and the pit of doom equvilent will be the stairs.... you loose and your going down a level.
they will compete in three challenegs.... Sprint, sumo and combat !!!
John

well i will be bold and put my money on Eugene. anything envy style must be good:) have they names there creations yet? sounds like your having a ball mate. as to destroying pain in the asp well all i can say is good luck you will have a good time catching it. keep them updates coming jonno and ask the competitors to spend 5 mins on the forum and post what they think about roboteering and a little about their robots.
Ok guys,
So ive put a picture of the student robots progress so far.
remember this is two days building for complete novices... and i am impressed with what they have achieved so far.
Tomorrow they have unitl 3pm to finish them where then we will start the competition.
Its now 6:14pm and they have all gone home....tomorrow morning i will try and get each team to post on here to talk about their robot.
Time for some food, then beer, then bed :)
John
that one with the claws looks good
i thought that too they look mean. still i am going to go with the one at the end that will just rule. the yellow one i think is eugenes. wanna tenner on it craig?
they look good no axes wat have u been teaching them lol the one with the claws looks good
Too All our singapore Roboteers ...
The competition is hotting up ....
Eugeene sounds like the one to watch as swanny says ....
All drivers be aware of the red mist sindrome ...
top tip ... Know your machine keep calm and drive to your bots potential keep the mist at bay ... come out on top to win the day ....
Good Luck To All ............pete.........
my cash is on the yellow one matt it will beat the crusher. tenner on it?
OK GUYS ...........
MY MONEY IS ON THE QUICK LIFTER
20 pounds on the smoothe topped lifter MR SWANN ?
COME ON DRIVER DONT LET ME DOWN .....:)
no, your wrong, eugenes is the white one with the lifter powered by the motor at the back.
that is a complex piece of engineering :)
The yellow one, has changed from what i thought was going to be a front hinged flipper is a sliding pannel, they hope to hook their opponents on it, and then it slides up on top of the robot. like a sunroof !!! :)
the claws will have scoops fitted, they are not seeking to only destroy they will scoop up their opponents, and underneath the ends of the claws are casters so they will still be able to push their opponents around.
Right im really going now..... down singapore people... normally work 9am until 11pm and 6 days a week here !! they are mad !!!
Im going to drag gary out to dinner !!
John
ok well i will still stick with yellow robot. now named Mellow Yellow. i also need to know the names of the team i am betting on. COME ON MELLOW YELLOW. of course i wont send you and of the winnings but will drink to our victory. on my own of course. oh and if Mellow Yellow wins i suppose i better reward them with membership to my team. Team Bud :)
Im going for the one in the foreground with the ball castor and the bit of wood sticking out of it :P
My bet will be...uh...one of those mansions in the next life I keep doing.
:)
Ill have a tenner on the one with the really cool red and blue paintwork and the six wheels!!
But seriously guys, you have done wonders in a couple of days, I especialy like the thing with the claws. In fact they all look like exellent machines. I just wish I were there to see this competition.
Mr Eugene, I understand that you would like a piece of Pain In The Asp? Please feel free to try! As I tell the the roboteers over here in the UK You want it, you gotta catch it first! :proud:
On behalf of all of the roboteers in the UK and Europe, we really hope you have all enjoyed this weeks introduction to the strange world of combat robotics. We are all looking forward to seeing a machine from Team Singapore at an event here in the UK before too long.
I await the result of Fridays competition with great interest... good luck to you all!
MY TEAM IS FLAT TOP FRENZZEE FLIPPER ...
COME ON FLAT TOP .....
OH BY THE WAY ... PLEASE PAINT IT ORANGE AND BLACK TRIM :):):):):)
GO FLAT TOP !!!!!!!!
the one with the claws will win
if you win driver then ill let you drive beauty when ever i see you lol
we are backing the white one, as it only needs black stripes to finish its paint job, and membership to team toon army.
I like the one with the claws too. :)
White one please, has the lowest front otherewise i would have gone for the claws:)
Ya, the battle is drawing near.
The robo soldiers in frenzy are still working.
Through the remainding hours, some are panicking.
The way of the warrior robots.. is just the beginning. Here in Singapore it seems.
Theres no turning back to the beginning.
Soon the battle field will be calling.
At the end, untill the last one stands...
What will be left shall be shattered chassis and trembling hands.
Some roboteers will cheer and some will tears.
May the force be amongst them.
Eugine
