23/24th June 2007 FRA FW UK Championships, Space Centre

23/24th June 2007 Roaming Robots - National Space Centre Feather Weight Full Combat.

After the success of our visit to the National Space Centre two years ago. Roaming Robots has been invited back to do it all over again. This time bigger and better than ever before !!!

Some good news for the feather weight community, I can now confirm, that this event will be the first outing of the Roaming Robots Class 2 Arena.

Measuring 9.5m x 6m, 10mm makrolon screens and a 6mm roof, designed specific for feather weights, the usual arena flipper, hammer and of course the pit, this arena will hopefully help keep feather weights alive and kicking€¦or rather spinning !!!!

We will be running a feather weight full combat championship over the course of the weekend, with heavy weight demonstration fights in between, plus pay to drive in our separate arena, this is the first time that feather weights will truely be centre stage with Roaming Robots !!!

We already have a prize fund in place for the top 3 winners, and a limited amount of accommodation provided on a first come first served basis.

This event will hopefully be a sign of things to come with the future with Roaming Robots 2007 / 2008 as it grows stronger and stronger.

It will take place inside the Space centre, in the main gallery in amongst all of the attractions.

For those who came before, I have already been asked... no the accommodation is not the grotty campsite we stayed at before, it is the local Holiday Inn.

Bring as many as you like !!!

No limit good, should have two new feather spinners by then, I started the build and dished out the money before the FRA announcement so im relived there is an event I can attend this year. But put me down as possible sunday only, due to working Saturdays. Shame its so late into the year also, but I will look forward to it.

Well be there (assuming that the feds havent dragged Jen & I off to Guantanamo Bay for breaking FCC rules... I.E. using a 40Mhz TX at Robogames! :uhoh:)

Geoff, if you want to avoid 40MHz in the US, I could arrange a 72Mhz TX set, or else a Spectrum DX6. Thats good all over the world (and not expensive either compared to high level PCM sets)

Geoff already owns at least one DX6 I believe.

In the last leaflet I got from the space centre there was a picture of what looked like Ed and Jonno dressed in space suits, eating pies.. but I wasnt sure... any comments gentlemen?

Id like to see the evidence to support that :P

yes,

for this event the arena will have 10mm side makrolon, and 6mm makrolon roof, making it a class 2 feather arena.

This will be an event where hopfully a lot of the spinners will again come out to play.

I am looking to book airline tickets to get me down and can get it far cheaper the sooner I book.

Yes the event is 110% happening, there is an update coming this week on this event and the UK champs.

Update as per our Uk Champs Thread.

As you should have read, although we are hosting the Main UK champs event at the Haven Park in August.

Due to the upgrade in FRA rules, we wont be able to run spinners there. Therefore we have decided to make this event at the Space centre the Feather Weight UK Championship event.

So far we have had a good response from teams, and already without the signups going live we are pretty full, and even have 10 Feather weight spinners entered, some very nasty ones too by the sounds of it... well I€™ve seen one of them !!!

Following a meeting recently, we have moved the location of the arena, it will now be placed back in the tower under the rockets, as we couldn€™t quite accommodate everything in the main gallery.

The pits will be in a room joined to it, along with our Pay to Drive arena and robots, plus we will be hosting a series of robot workshops throughout the weekend in the same vicinity.


There will be lost more info to follow as and when but this event is turning into a monster with everything, sign ups going live soon.

Glad to hear it Jonno, really looking forward to this event. Just have to find out if BMI baby will be happy with me putting a robot in the hold. :)

BMI Baby will put anything in the hold LOL... well from my experience LOL. Having sat many times in the airport looking at the strange things that go into the hold of the baby planes

Lol just off the phone to them and they dont have a problem as long as the sharp nasty pointy bits are covered :)

Now I just have to prepair hornet 2 to take a battering from the baggage handlers. Might be far worse than anything it will experience in the arena.

Whats the prize fund for this event? Sounds like theres some nasty robots going so depending on what im fighting for depends on which robot i enter with.

There will be a prize fund of £500 for this event. More than previously stated. The space center are putting up £250, and Roaming Robots is topping it up with the rest.
