Well, Dave, people might be able to answer your question in this thread.
Where are you, Hydra?

good point, i dont think ive seen denis since debenham the year before last.... or was he at magna last year?
I think it was even before that, think they were at Debenham when it was at the hanger not the leisure centre. They were at Kettering at some point as well. Didnt go to Magna so cant say

They were at RAF Cosford in 2004.
Yeah i remeber talking to him at a BTP event. Got a video of Hydra vs Tornado somewere :)
Hydra will be competing again soon (I hope) coz i heard the robot is on for sale in the forum!
I want to have it but Im not allowed to have it:sad:
Hydra was back in action for a bit of testing at Colchester. its been out of action for a while but except for a few errors from the engineers (Not putting the bottle in for gods sake!!) it went well.
Its an absolutely awesome machine when its firing on all cylinders and its relatively easy to drive too.
Weve got to do a bit of rebuilding to bring it up to date on the CO2 side but nothing too major.
good on you andy. i like hydra and was a bit jealous it was for sale cos i wasnt allowed to get it. i hope i will see you at guildford event and fight envy. :)
Probably will but unfortunately for you, you wont be the first oota weve had!!
Andy
LOL i do love banter. :) :)
I was actually referring to us getting dumped out by Iron Awe 5. For you, well possibly be trying out a new axe if we have time:rofl:
oh ok. i still liked it as banter tho.
Go Hydra! I loved that bot, and when I saw it up for sale, I was willing to shell out my money for it and send it overseas...until you bought it, Andy. The bot I could have had...shows how slow I am. :proud:
Make me proud! :)
Ive heard that the axe makes a nice noise when it hits Batterbot!
Its a very nice axe system, the linkage is very good.
Makes a nice thud but with the axe head thats on there it tends to blunt the axe.
I also think the fact that the axe is aluminium tends to give it too much flexibility when it hits. Maybe a note for future upgrade works.....big steel bar to be fitted.
The linkage was according to Dennis take from Shunt and works really well. (When you remember to fill the CO2 tank, plug the axe in or something similar which seemed to happen every time we were out).
Just to let you know Leo the axe uses needle type bearings where it moves. Quite sure you couldnt see these when you were copying it!!
If you need any further dimensions or templates for parts I am sure I can let you have them.
Andy
We didnt need the specifics on the bearings, we were only interested in the geometry of the linkage. The linkage in Obsidian is roughly the same but the angles are wrong. Thats why we had to put the lighter axe back on, which was a shame really.
Andy, U going 2 the UK Championships?
Not sure yet mate. Depends whether Luke behaves himself:rofl:
Hoping to be out for stoke, guilford and aylesbury. Just trying to get Cylon working first before starting on Hydra. Few minor bugs to iron out but at least its working now.
I am hoping to and am hoping that the new team will be running a few new feathers by then. Out of interest what do people normally do there. Is it a hotel job or will there be a few people camping.
Andy
camping and beer and.......well thats about it really.
Hey thats amazing....I like beer too!!...I could really get into this roboteering lark!!
well i hope you do because you have just bought a nice robot and i am sure you will get loads of enjoyment from it. i like Hydra too and am looking forward to fighting it.

2005 Winter Tour
What Venue?
Just got back from Stoke and thought Id reclaim Hydra thread from the general chatter.
Have to say the improvemnt from Colchester was awesome. Having re-plumbed the pneumatics and done away with the leaks it self rights and the axe power is improved to the point we got stuc in the floor at one point.
Drive was all good. Need to adjust the speed controllers a bit but apart from that no real probs.
Next thing we need to fix is drivers experience. Looking at it Lukes had about 20minutes total driving a heavyweight so Stoke was a good event in the whiteboards.
Had to laugh when Iron Awe tried to help us when we got stuck in the side of the arena and flipped us out....................hmmmmmm............That was Mr Grimms excuse anyway:rofl::rofl::rofl:
U thought Iron-Awe? I remember Hydra meeting Iron-Awe in the Axe-Attack in Robot Wars Series 7!
Yep, we fought Iron Awe in the first fight in the show. Wed spoken before the fight and said we wanted to test out the drive and pneumatics and everything else wed been working on.
We got stuck on the side wall and iron Awe tried to get us off with a low pressure flip. (same way they got us out of the arena floor when the axe got stuck.) Didnt quite happen that way as we dissapeared over the side wall.
Made me laugh anyway and it didnt really matter as wed checked everything was working by that time anyway.
Andy
Gotta love teamwork.
