The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
And before Mr Alex M moans about me saying that a random thread was going to be my last fanfics, well I lied, and hence because its half-term next week, and for once I have no homework/coursework, so it means I get some time off.
What I need is for people to enter 1 vapourbot each, to keep things simple, no interchangeable weapons and wheeled robots only. The format will be a massive Annihilator, with one robot going out each round until one robot is left to be crowned the champion.
Entries close on Saturday, giving you a day to copy your stats into this thread.

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Ill enter some of my newish designs for a change.
Name: Infusion
Motivation: 4 x 125mm wheels
Speed: 0-12MPH [25MPH under Kinetic Boost]
Clearance: 7.5mm (same inverted) 0mm at the front, the wedge scraps the floor.
Weight: 100kg
Height: 125mm
Length: 800mm
Width: 600mm
Weapon: The weapon is a 28kg Hardox spinning ring (Ala MDU) powered by a LEM170 @ 36v. The rim rotates at 2000rpm and should spin up within 2 seconds max. The weapon is also a storage device for the drive. The spinning rim is connected to each side of the drive via a car air conditioner clutch, when the clutches are engaged, the 31kg kinetic storage bank(the spinning rim) transfers its energy into the drive train, giving it approximately double torque and speed for 2-3 seconds until the rim starts too loose speed and energy. This extra €˜kinetic€™ boost is used to ram into opponents with the front 10mm thick Hardox 500 wedge (similar to the one on Warrior SKF but wider and less depth to it). The front wedge is rubber shock mounted to ensure it survives the biggest of hits.
Drive: 2 x C40-500 Magmotors on 36v geared 7.5:1. The drive is also assisted via the spinning rim as explain above.
Batteries: 120 x 3600mAh NiCad Cells made into 36v packs. Produces 36v @ 14.4Amp/Hours
Armour: Front wedge is made entirely out of 8mm Hardox 500, the top and bottom of the robot is made out of 8mm Titanium/Vandium, The ring is made out of 10mm Hardox 400 with inner bracing to the perimeter bearing. Inner bulk heads are made from 20mm polycarbonate and 10mm aluminium.
Notes: Invertible, speed when needed and generally well controlled for a spinner. Ram or Spin, Infusion aims to win!

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Ill give SOR one last run out before I redesign it again.
Name: SOR 5.0
Shape: Tall box shape with a front wedge and sloped sides. The sides are also skirted and the front wedge has a Firestorm style €˜wedge extender€™.
Colour: Light grey with a dark grey flipper and SOR across the front in red.
Dimensions: 700mm x 800mm x 200mm (Length x Width x Height)
Weight: +/- 100kgs (Unsure of the actual weight at the moment)
Motivation: Two CNC Aluminum wheels with holes for weight reducing. There are two choices of tyre that can be used on the edge of these wheels. The first choice are bonded with Vulkalon rubber for superb grip on metal surfaces. The second choice are made with standard rubber with small screws poking out for extra grip on wooden surfaces.
Power: Each wheel is driven by an LEM130 motor. I chose these for two reasons, the first reason being the S28-150€™s weren€™t up to the job and were lacking in the power department. The second reason was their great power to weight ratio was perfect for what SOR wanted. More power for a weight only around a kilo heavier than before. The motors are run at 36v providing decent speed and torque and not going overkill on battery weight.
Speed: 12mph, for a decent running speed and great acceleration.
Turning Circle: 0, with tank style steering.
Ground Clearance: 1mm under the front wedge and 10mm elsewhere. However the front wedge extender and the skirts mean SOR now has a 0mm ground clearance all the way round (other than the back, but that has the disc).
Skirting: 4mm thick Titanium/Vanadium, hinged to the body with a rotary joint.
Armour: 3.25mm thick Hardox monocoque.
Weapon: The usual rear hinged flipping arm at the front that goes across the top and then down the front wedge and finally forming a horizontal Bigger Brother like flipping platform (only the width of the front). This is powered by an 80mm bore ram and CO2 at 145psi contained in two 2.2kg canisters giving over 30 flips in a fight. At the rear there has been a bit of a modification. The rear spinning weapon remains, only this time it is a Hardox horizontal spinning bar. This is powered by an S28-400 Magmotor at 24v.
SRIMECH: Invertible and the flipper can self right it.
Strengths: Compact, powerful, manoeuvrable, low clearance, tough armouring, decent weapons, can self right and work inverted. A great all rounder basically.

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Name - A Night at the Bar
Shape - A wide cylinder-shaped axlebot
Weight - 100 Kilogram
Speed - 24 km/h (15mph, geared for control)
Dimensions - 25x110x25 cm
Ground Clearance - Well, it€™s an axlebot€¦
Power - 2 S28-400 Magmotors at 24 volt
Movement - Two axlebot wheels, 25cm diameter
Turning Circle - Zero
Weaponry - In the middle of the cylinder, at 5 cm above the floor, is a 60 cm hardox bar with thick tungsten teeth on it. It weighs 25 kilogram and is powered by a B42-500Magmotor at 36 volt, spinning at 2000 rpm, giving it a nice spin up time. It€™s able to poop 55 kJ of energy straight into any opponent, so ha! The bar is mounted in such a way that it sticks out from the front and from the back, basically making it a double-headed spinning bar.
The only reason my bot can keep on driving normally even though it has only two wheels on the floor is because the centre of gravity is somewhere near the middle of the two teeth.
Armour - If you split the cylinder in halve, horizontally, the upper part of it is 4,5 mm hardox, and the lower part 5 mm, which is to centre the weight around the lower part, which is needed for the srimech. The insides are made shockproof with rubber, so it won€™t be destroyed by it€™s own weapon.
Srimech - Seeing there is a huge bar spinning in front and at the back of the bot, chances are a wedge won€™t be able to get underneath it from there anyway.
IF it is flipped, the bar will stop spinning and glide inside the cylinder, where it perfectly fits. At that point the bot is an almost perfect cylinder, and will be able to roll. The centre of gravity will roll in such a way that it will point downwards. As I designed it, the centre of gravity should be somewhere in the middle of the tungsten teeth, therefore it will roll to the position shown on the pick, and the bar will be put on again.
Strenghts - Devastating weaponry sticking out at the front and back, at only 5 cm above the floor. Should be able to fend off wedges.
Weakness - Can bounce off though armour, or the arena wall, or even the arena floor when the cylinder topples. And seeing my ONLY contact with the floor is the two wheels, this might become a rocking chair on steroids. Won€™t be pushing very much either.

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
NAME- Metal Sonic Spin Dash (formerly S.D. IV) (HW)
SHAPE- low skirted box, with fixed front wedge & sloped sides
COLOUR- blue bodywork, with red-and-white striped skirting
WEIGHT- about 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 102cm X 75cm X 20cm
SPEED- 16mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at front with spatula, 0mm elsewhere with skirts, 12mm elsewhere without skirts
ARMOUR- 3.75mm Hardox
WHEELS- inside robot, 6WD
POWER- 2 x LEM-130 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 18hp.
WEAPONS- The main weapon here is really the excellent traction, but like all its other incarnations, Spin Dash still maintains its Pussycat-style vertical saw blade, running at 3000rpm. This time, however, the four-clawed spinner sticks halfway out of the front wedge, so that when the wedge/spatula combo bashes underneath an opponent, both the wheels and the underbelly are at the mercy of the saw.
Also features several Mute-style barbs on top to hook onto other robots and let me drag them around the ring
SRIMECH- a rear-hinged arm on top with a basic low-pressure CO2 set-up. Can be used to about 30-40 times and is ONLY used for self-righting in order not to waste the gas supply
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag (though, forgot to add to pic. Shockaroonie!), has F*** Shadow! written on the underbelly in red :proud:
STRENGTHS- excellent traction, fast, manoueverable, tough armour, well-skirted, great at getting under everyone else
WEAKNESSES- so-so turning ability, teething troubles?
Thanks to Tony for hosting the pic :) : http://img322.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fifthspindash7mn.jpghttp://img322.imageshack.us/my.php?i...pindash7mn.jpg

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Ill enter a robot with very little description which Im working on called Axel F(Note its got nothing to do with the song) its an axelbot with 6 wheelosauros style discs with 2 in the front 1 on the right hand side 2 on the back and 1 on the left hand side and everything else is wheelosauros if youve got any questions or remarks of how to make it better than Ill make it better.

OBLITERATION
Weight: 100 kilos
Body Shape: Revolutionist
Speed: 5mph
TC: 0
GC: 5mm all the way round. It has to be.
Wheels: 8 inner (4 on top, 4 below)
Armour: 7mm titanium
Power: It drives on 3x 12v batteries plus a couple of Magmotors. For the weaponary, the power matches Phrizbee.
Colour: Dark blue with tinges of black and brown.
Weapons: This robot is a full body spinner. The teeth are increibally sharp. It spins at about 500 rpm, and does damage similar to Phrizbee.
Srimech: Unusual for a FBS, this robot runs inverted.
Inspiration: It sounded cool. It also sounds like a ride at an amusment park, if you ask me.
Strengths: Body! Need I say more?
Weaknessess: Rather slow, First timer
BIO
Obliteration has the disposition of a train wreck many times over. Though he prefers to take his time around the arena, his super powerful spinning body delivers a nasty blow. Obliteration is a first stringer, and considers himself A closer - And he doesnt like having his photo taken for some reason! Watch out for this guy - hes no sweet pleasent ride let me tell you!
You cant get more basic. Besides, for an annihilator-type contest, Id need a robot that had a 360 degree killing zone.

The day Tim makes realistic stats will come when Andy and Frank hate coffee...And lets not forget when Steve hates Sonic.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Timothy, compare your stats with the stats of the people that know what theyre doing. Are you saying that Axel F weighs 2kgs and moves at 0.5mph? Well, youre certainly not saying it doesnt.
Try to write more descriptive stats. Look at my stats, for example, and try to write them like that.

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Here goes nothing...
Name: Artemis
Weight: 100kg
Armour: 11mm Titanium all over the main body and wedge, with a 12mm Titanium strip on the wedge to help get underneath the opponent.
Dimensions: 70 x 80 x 16 (L x W x H)
Speed: 14mph
Shape: Box with front wedge
Weapon 1: A very powerful flipping and piercing spike, powered by a double torsion spring. The setup is very similar to Red Square from Battlebots. It uses a very powerful torsion spring to fire the spike.
Weapon 2: A medium sized, low pressure CO2 powered arm the runs along the width of the robot. This can be used to self right the robot.
Strengths: Powerful weaponry, compact, strong armour, good speed and pushing power.
Weaknesses: Useless against axlebots.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front due to hinged skirt, 4mm on sides and back.
Srimech: The CO2 powered arm.
Notes: The robot is powered by 2 LEM130 motors running at 36v. To give strong, powerful drive, the robot has 6 Vulcalon wheels a skid steer mechanism. The spring used to retract the spike is a torsion spring, compressed by a PERM 080 motor running at 36v geared down 30:1. The spike comes out of the front wedge, and can damage and flip its opponent. The flipper/srimech system is as follows:
Gas reservoir size 1.1 kg
Regulated pressure (Pb) 16 bars
Regulator flow (Fr) 900 litres/min
Buffer tank volume (Vt) 1 litres
Combined valve flow (Fv) 1722 litres/min
Pipe outside diameter 12 mm
Pipe inside diameter mm
No of pipes feeding ram 1
Pipe length 0.1 m
Ram bore 100 mm
Ram stroke 200 mm
Number of rams 1
Back pressure (PQ) 0.5 bars
Flipper geometry type 0
Mass of flipper (Mf) 10 kg
Mass to throw (M) 100 kg
Regulator variation 5 %
This means we have 22 flips per bottle and can flip an opponent 66cm off the ground. The spike itself is made from 4mm Hardox, and is carbon tipped to damage Titanium armouring. For the record, I will only use the flipper as means of self righting UNLESS the opponent has no srimech or I say so in my tactics.

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Veg 2
Weight- 100.2kg (WDOR)
Speed- 12.8mph 5.7 m/s
Dimension- H- 23cm W- 70cm L- 93cm
Shape- Low wedge, with extra steeper wedge part at back.
Locomotion- 2 x drilled aluminium boron carbide wheels, with custom cut tyres made from an old conveyer belt. These have miniature diamond shavings in to allow extra traction. They stick out at an angle out of the back wedge. However, they have wheel guards to protect them, which show nothing but the bit that hits the floor.
Ground clearance- 0 at front, 0-5mm at sides, 2mm at rear.
Turning circle- 0
Armour- 5mm Nanoflex, with wheel guards and flipper being made from 7mm
Power- 2 x S28-400 motors running at 24V producing 9BHp but only weighing 6.2 kg. We€™ve got 2x 24V TMC batteries powering them.
Removable link position- about half way down in the wedge at the back.
Weapon- A Helium powered flipper, with 4x 2kg canister running at 750 psi. This should have around 35 flips in it and should be able to toss robots about 3-4 feet into the air. It can be cranked up to 1000psi or cranked down to 500, changing the flips level by 10 each way, and upping/downing the flip height by about a foot.
Srimech- Invertible and capable of flipping ala Rick both ways up.
Strengths- Powerful weapon, invertible, good manouvreability
Weaknesses- Not quite sure yet, possibly low on traction with 2WD, but htose wheels are well gripped.
Weight Distribution
Chassis- 12kg
Armour- 32kg
Locomotion- 8kg
Batteries- 7kg
Motors- 6.2kg
Weaponry- 26kg
Electronics- 9kg

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Right, sign-ups are now closed, so Tims wonderbot isnt entered because he didnt post a link to the stats or the stats themselves. Never Mind though :proud:
Final entry list:
Bloody Tears 2
Infusion
Baldur
SOR 5.0
A Night at the Bar
Metal Sonic Spin Dash
Obliteration
Artemis
Veg 2.
The Chaos of a 9-way Annihilator gets on its way tomorrow, so any tactics if you can call them tactics, because as everybody knows tactics go out of the winner in the early rounds of Annihilators, because their are robots moving everywhere :)
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Uh...Try not to get killed, see if people are going to take out Artemis or SOR or Veg for me, as flippers are BT2s big weaknesses as it can stop lots of damage, but cant stop a OOTA. Jump in and do some damage every now and then. Basically, let the other robots fight amongst themselves and only risk attacking when I need to, as I dont want a early OOTA with all these flippers around.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Spin up ASAP and...how do I put this...play a game of tag with my oppodents.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Hmmm, I think Im probably the weakest robot overall, so Ill try driving around the arena and basically causing some carnage, whilst at the same time staying away from the deadly 3 (Infusion, Obliteration and Night at the Bar), as Artemis design is not designed for those type of robots.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Well well, the beauty of baldur is that although it can;t really do that much to anyone, there isnt that much that can be done to it, however flippers could be more of an annoyance than super spinners, in conclusion Ill wait til the flipper bot take their hits, and then slam in hard into the flipper bots and try to get them out.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
At this stage my only tactics are not to lose.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
thats crap my computer was broken and youre fuckin not letting me enter.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
The rules stated that you had until saturday to submit your stats Timmy.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Oh my! The village idiot has learned a swear word, has he?!
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Spin up Infusions spinning rim, defend any oncoming attacks with the front wedge, then go after Artemis or Obliteration.
For Artemis, Im going to aim for removing the skirts first, attacking at there leading edge with the spinning rim, then once they are gone, used the kinetic boost and wedge under the side of it with the front wedge and ram it into the wall.
For Obliteration, just keep hammering it will the spinning rim until the titanium armour falls apart.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
yeah well if you gave stats maybe you wouldnt be moaning at me.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
I GAVE stats, nimrod: DId you not see the link? Or are you just that dumb? Read before accusing others of what YOUVE done.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
8 opponents huh?
spin up, drive around, give a good bashing here and there
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
read before you accuse Ant I was talking to Dave idiot.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Why should i provide stats?
A lot of people have their own format of stat writing with different things added or in different orders. Just because your too stupid to come up with a half-decent design with wont be destroyed in the first round, their is no need to moan.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Dave dosent need to give stats: ITS HIS TOURNY. Whos fault is it if you dont give stats in time? YOURS. Dear god youre one to be calling other people idiots when half of FRA hates your guts...
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Well thank you very much Ant, jesus Ive came in the wrong time of the forum.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Would that time be all the time?
Listen to Tony, hes put it as plain as day. If you turn up to an event with no robot how do you expect to fight?
Over the time you have been here, you have not once attempted to create one half-decent set of stats. For that matter the only thing you have done is cause endless arguements and start and unfinish many tournaments. As Ive said before, dont get the reputation I have... though me saying that is pretty pointless as you already have a worse reputation I do. :P
Sorry, but me and a few others are getting fed up now. Shape up or please ship out.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
TJS, Ill make it clear for you. Four words.
1: No.
2: One.
3: Likes.
4: You.
And do you know what impression youre giving? The impression youre giving is that youre TRYING to disrupt and prematurely end the tourny because you didnt get in. Which, of course, makes for even MORE people not liking you.
(Message edited by Dinowarrior on February 13, 2006)

The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Im not trying to disrupt any tourneys I just like tourneys where they actually give you the name of the stats like they do in other tournies.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
Sorry, it seems I given give the name of the stats for this tourney. They are called Eric. How on earth could I forget to name the stats.
-
The Half-Term Vapourbot Rumble
They are called Eric?! I thought it was Bert! Thats it - I withdraw!
