13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
Roaming Robots Summer Camp 13 - 20th Aug 05
Date - 13th to 20th August 2005
Venue - Thorpe Park, Surrey, in their 900 seated arena.
Accomodation - We will be providing an RR campsite facility at a local campsite.
Shows - 4 x 1 hour long shows per day.
Tickets - Tickets will go on sale for pre booking, or can be purchased within the park, however we are looking at a price of £2 or £3.... a bargin for the action provided.
This will be a pure robotic entertainments week with allsorts of things happening.
We hope to have, all weights attending, pay to drive / audience participation, mechanoids, boxers, and any other interesting robotics and features very welcome.
The event will be filmed for DVDs, including a live mix projecting the action onto several plasma screens in the area so no one misses one second of the action.
All being well we will be providing, appearance fees, and food and drink throughout your time at our Summer Camp.
This is a very exciting venture, with some major plans to spin off from it for 2006, which may see a European Championship, full combat event return to UK soil next year. So certainly watch this space.
We need to gain roboteers interest, comments and suggestions before it is finalised and formally launched to the world.
Feel free to express interest, comments and suggestions here or email them to me at john@roamingrobots.co.uk.
As the shows will run from Saturday to Saturday, it is obvious with work and other commitments you may not be able / want to attend all week, however, just let us know what days you are potentially interested in attending.
Nearer the time we will be organising it as such to try and get an even spread of robots throughout the week.
In principle we will be staging a 1 hour show, 4 times a day which will be repeated throughout the week in the same format.
Lets make it happen.

Any chance of Antweight participation if we can drum up enough entries. The Aylesbury event seem to work well and over the sort of time scales you are talking about the ants could be run at a different times solving the frequency problems.
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
yes you would be more than welcome, and with the plasma screens for viewing, it would work very well.
feel free to drum up as much interest as possible, and keep us informed with progress.

Quote from the Colossus page: For safety reasons guests must be properly secured in the seat, which may not be possible for some guests with larger Torso or thigh measurements.

Any ideas as to how much appearence fee you will be providing? And are we free to wonder around the park and go on rides when not needed? (or perhaps, do we get standard tickets?)
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
Jonno, Thorpe Park do yellow wrist-bands which are priority passes. They enable VIPs in the park to jump the queues.
Roboteers being AWOL is going to be a problem, if Thorpe Park could provide these, people could easily nip off for a ride, knowing they can come straight back without getting stuck in a queue.
... just a thought.

well im up for this event will have to check with the other half of the thorak crew
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
don€™t worry, roboteers and rides are on the discussion topics list.
Once im comfortable this is doable from a show point of view, and both parties are comfortable with the fundamentals, then we will get to the nitty gritty details.

P.s AWOL roboteers is easy, ill padlock the gates !!!

Got the week off. Get ready for a surprise- is there enough Cider?
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
Hope to be able to get down for a couple of days in the week, with the carrot..
How on earth are you going to cope with the CO2 for 4 shows a day for a week? I know we get through loads over the average weekend gig.
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
I think Kronic will be able to make it for 2 days, probably the final weekend.

Just to let you know,
Thanks for the feedback, and interest.
From a roboteers point of view, looks like it gets the green light.
However, we are currently working through some major issues with the park that are getting in the way, they may or not be able to be resolved for this year.
2006 is another matter with over a year to plan it.
We will know more by the beginning of next week, as to what capacity we will be attending for 2005.
Will keep you posted.

Thorpe Park is only half an hour down the road from us, we certainly would be up to bring along some of our menagerie.

Jonno and the guys are in Holland at the moment Ewan. The last time I spoke to Jonno he said this was on his to do list as soon as he got back and he had still been having trouble getting any information out of Thorpe Park.
Im sure Jonno will let us all know when he has any new information.

We would love to know because our new car is due for delivery during that week.
We can no longer use the van for long trips, and certainly not at night because the head-lights and the dashboard lights are almost completely dead now. We might also not have the money for the trip. Its become an expensive month for obvious reasons.
Look at my profile for the reason.
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
You may have found replacing the bulbs in the dashboard a more cost effective option than buying an entire new car ;)

No Ed. Unfortunately were talking about the entire electrical wiring of the van, from the batteries to the rest (and the batteries are in the back of the van). Besides, the motor refuses to start when its raining and we noticed the gearbox starting to turn into a mayonnaise jar as well.
As an extra bonus the old van will be destroyed when the new car is delivered, we got a 1000 Euros refund for that in the purchasing price. Thats just Opels lovely way to insure that dangerous old cars vanish from the roads.
-
13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
The main thing about the old van is simple, worn out.
250 000 km with a 1000CC motor is a good show
I cant keep up with the rust anymore.
The shockdampers tell me they are almost finished.
The clutch as well.
The headlight wiring is next gone.
The insulation of the wires in the motor compartiment suffers from dampness, and making starting difficult when wet.
Fuel economy isnt great- 10L is very normal, driving very carefully. Small tank isnt helping either.
And an oil change every 5000 km, and every 10 000km a maintenance.
And as Babs say, getting a ‚1000 for a car I payed ‚700 isnt bad.

13th - 20th Aug- Roaming Robots Summer Camp
Ok Guys,
Sorry to say, that the news isn€™t good.
Even after starting discussions with another theme park, there was just too little time to get over the problems faced with putting this together.
So unfortunately we won€™t be going this year.
What good has come out of it, is we are now already talking about 2006 and on a good platform to work from.
We do plan to be busy next year, already talking to the parks, and some other opportunities coming our way throughout the summer.
And we are still putting the winter tour together, finalising the 5th venue, stay tuned for the launch of it , and our plans for the future as soon as possible.
Thanks
John
