Denbigh Robot Event 2005, Sat/Sun April 9th / 10th


Its Back, and bigger than before. Last years event was attended by over 1200 people over the 3 days, which raised over £3000 for local charities.

Lets make this years event better. 4 shows over two days, with the new RR arena, and plenty of robots interested in coming, this will be a fantastic event.

So where are people staying at then? As a few roboteers are asking us where other roboteers are staying so they can book in the same hotel/area.

Im at the Travel Inn Llandudno the same as a few of us last year. Its about a 20 minute drive from the venue but there arent any lodges very close anyway.

I may be coming to this, I have a FW to enter, but I also want to bring my K*bots and the arena to promote K*bots more. Would that be allowed ?

were in Llandudno Travel Inn, dont think there are many rooms left there.

The social is centred around Conwy this year. A walled castle town on the River Conwy full of cosy pubs including one on the quayside. (The town is about 2 miles fron the Travel Inn Llandudno) All the pubs are walkable and its customary for punters to try and get a pint or two in every one before staggering home. So anyone going to the FRA meeting on the Saturday, or competing in the event could look at staying in a B+B in the town.

Is anyone passing through or around Bristol on their way up to Denbigh?

Are the competition rounds (well the ones to qualify for the 2005 Championship thing) happening on the Saturday or Sunday?

You can withdraw BlacknBlue from this. My IBC has broken :sad:

More than likely to be on Saturday Ewan, same with Magna, get the UKRR championship battles out the way first, also means we can use those Full on competitions to win the Denbigh Event as there all drawn from the hat at random and full on fights also.

Oh dear Rob - 2 things, what you done to your IBC. and 2nd you was never on the list coz u never signed up to your own Event via the RR site. LOL!!! (Joking i added you both on) LOL
But thats also good as we over booked on Feather Weights anyway.

Brand new IBC, Put BnB on the blocks, wired it up carefully, put a 60A meter in line with the 24v NiMH pack. Checked everything. Put the link in. Everything OK. Forward, reverse, etc on half stick, no problems. Went on full stick forward, meter showed about 6A, puff of smoke below the IBC, link then started smoking. Disconnected and removed the IBC to check, the diode under the big capacitor has gone and the PCB track underneath is damaged. :sad:The motors are the same ones Ive always had in BnB, 18v drill motors at 24v, maybe one of them has a fault?

Something very weird there as im running 4 12v drill motors on 24v and im cooking the motors and the the 2400mah RC Sub C Sanyo cells are red red hot. So im pulling over 80amps, ibc is hot but working fine. Thats very very odd Rob. Sure nothing shorting or dodgy motors? Thats very odd indeed.

Yes its the v1.3. Ive checked the pcb track and at least its not melted. Paint burnt off though. That was the smoke I saw. Very odd. Anyway Ive had enough of wasting money and Im retiring BnB as of now.

Some very good robots coming.
The social as I said will be in Conwy. Starting hopefully outside the Liverpool Arms on the quayside. We can then drift through the town. My other favourite is the Castle Hotel, but they are all ok.

Are there any apperance fees or money towards the accom for this event?

In common with other events it depends on ticket sales...and its looking a bit glum. Weve sold 310 of the 800 available. We need to sell a lot more to break even, the fixed costs are so high. I cant believe how hard Ive had to work just to get to this point. Weve had loads of radio, newspaper coverage all over north wales, but consider this, 25% of ticket sales are from 100miles+ away via ebay, RR website etc and 60% from mailshotting last years audiences. This tells me that the audiences are becoming just diehard RW fans and not locals like it used to be. Realistically this has to be the last Denbigh live event unless the programme gets a new life on BBC.
I desperately hope that I can sell another 300+ this week!

Try to keep the faith Rob, I know its not easy when you see ticket sales like that. If history is anything to go by you may well find that you pick up a good few sales in the last couple of days. Also dont forget that you will more than likely have a fair number of on the door sales too.
Im sure you have done a fine publicty job and I really hope it comes good in the end.
Im certain we can all look forward to another great Denbigh event this weekend.
