The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
Fight against Robots is back, but with a new name to honour my old Grandfather who sadly passed away in early December 2004. This series 9 and by the system of previous series should have 256 robots entered, but I was thinking I can€™t stand around and do 256 fights this time around. Therefore it will only be a 72 robot sized, but the key difference this time is that all the robots are entered by you lot this time.
The Rankings
Based purely on the results from FAR 8, and taken the retirement of several members, the FAR 8 seed is in brackets, the ranking list is:
1. Clawdius Decimus Murderous
2. Son of Ripper 3.5 (30)
3. Bulldog Breed (11)
4. Tsunami 2
5. Gravity 5
6. SD IV
7. Flaming Hell
8. Panicking (4)
9. Typhoon 2
10. Flipping Hell (11)
11. No Close Shave 2 (10)
12. Firestorm 5 (8)
13. Die Ceratops Invertus (19)
14. Slammer 3
15. Frost-Byte (1)

My rules for seeds are simple; just say which robot you are replacing.
Entry Requirements
(Ta for Steve for allowing me to borrow these)
- I am looking for 12 people to enter 6 machines
- Competitors can either be vapourbots or real robots (from RW, Battlebots etc)
- However, at least one of your machines MUST be a real robot
- If your entering 5 vapours to 1 real, one of your vapours MUST be €˜new€™ where new is defined as having at max, 1 fight at the time of signing up
- The weight limits are:
- 100kg for wheeled robots (e.g. Tornado)
- 110kg for tracked robots (e.g. Mortis)
- 120kg for shufflers (e.g. Son of Whyachi)
- 150kg for €˜true€™ walkers (e.g. Anarchy)
- If your real robot is a walker, and has been on the television, but doesn€™t fit in the new rule, You are allowed to enter it.
- No flying robots are permitted
- No purely passive robots are permitted (inc. bots with interchangeable wedges and the like.) However, this doesnt not include machines with Stinger-style weaponry as it actually swings.
- Clusterbots are permitted, with no limit to the number of parts (but lets keep things realistic here :proud:). I will also be using the rule that if 75% of the cluster is out, all of it is out.
- There are no really restrictions on how your stats are posted, but please try and keep them nice and detailed :-)
- Basic FRA rules apply, so let€™s keep things realistic, people!
Tournament Structure
This will be following a mixture of series 4 heats and series 5 semi finals.
HEATS * 12
- ROUND 1 - The Return of 3-way melees - 1 seed in each
- ROUND 2 - The winners of the melees, the seeds not fighting each other at this point. 2* Head to Head
- ROUND 3 (HEAT FINAL) - Head to Head with the winners of the round 2 fights.
SEMI-FINALS * 2
- ROUND 4 - 3* Head to Head fights with winners of odd-numbered heats
- ROUND 5 - 1* Loser€™s melee, between the 3 losing robots in round 4
- ROUND 6 - 2* Head to Head fights, with winner of loser€™s melee not fighting whoever beat it in round 4
GRAND FINAL
- ROUND 7 - 2* Head to Head fights between the 4 Semi-final winners
- ROUND 8 - Third Place Playoff, between the two losers from round 7.
- ROUND 9 - The Final
The Arena
Unlike FAR 8 which had 3 arenas, there is only 1 arena for this tournament, which is the Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament arena. The link for it is here:
http://www.geocities.com/mrdave1986/arena.htmlhttp://www.geocities.com/mrdave1986/arena.html
Judging
For each of the 5 areas, a total of 15 marks are available. 15 marks will be spilt between the robots. The total will be out of 75.
The 5 areas are:
Aggression - Were you on the attack
Control - Were you well controlled?
Damage Caused - How much damage did you cause?
Strategy - Did you keep to your strategy?
Style - How stylist was your fighting in the eyes of the judges.
In case of a draw in one of the melees, I will ask an outside judge to judge the battle.
Link to Stats
If you wish to link your stats from another page, please Provide a link or tell me where the stats are (e.g. in VFT 6), as this will save confusion later.
Reserving Entries
You may wish to reserve entries, but if there is a 13th person with entries all ready in and you have not posted your entries, that 13th person will kick you out.
Get Cracking :-)

The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
Thanks for the spot mate :proud:
1. Razer
2. Stratos-Fear
SHAPE- A sort of 4Wheel Drive Wheely Big Cheese.
COLOUR- Stealthy Black and Grey
WEIGHT- 100kg
DIMENSIONS- (L) With Flipper: 155cm, Without: 62cm (W) With flipper: 124cm, Without: 26cm each wheelpod. (H) 26cm
SPEED- 15mph, high acceleration
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- Dead zero at front, rising to about 1-2cm at rear.
ARMOUR- 4-7mm RSP-707 T6, Dave found this, it has the same density as aluminium but is almost as strong as titanium.
WHEELS- 4, 4wd
DRIVE- 2 24v LEM130€™s, geared for good speed and acceleration, powered by 3 x 24v 3Ah NiCad battlepacks.
WEAPON 1- 130cm pneumatic flipper. This thing is powered by THREE 420mm x 80mm full pressure rams, running off three nitrogen tanks, with one extra as a buffer. It has a travel of 115 degrees. This should comfortably launch another heavyweight far into the air, better than WBC due to the increased power and length of the flipper. 3000psi Nitrogen, or 1000psi CO2 powered.
SRIMECH - Axlebot, therefore it€™s invertible and can€™t be flipped.
SKIRTS- None
NOTES- Could probably flip about a tonne, and launch a heavyweight far, far into the air. Possibly the first 4 wheeled axle bot? Due to the shock, can probably kill another heavyweight in one or two flips. Overflip is now redundant because the flipper flops over due to the hollow axle connecting the two drive boxes. The flipper rides the ground, and due to the speed and low, low angle can easily breach any skirts.
SUMMARY- Prepare to be launched into the stratos-fear!
STRENGTHS- THAT flipper, acceleration and speed.
WEAKNESSES- Armour is sacrificed a bit for extra power.
3. Scottishly Fictional
SHAPE- Modified Storm 2 shape, with a concave front.
DIMENSIONS (LWH)- 75cm x 72cm x 16cm
COLOUR- Scottish flags all over
WEIGHT- 100 kg
SPEED- 20mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0 at front, 5mm elsewhere
ARMOUR- 6-12mm titanium
WHEELS- 6, sellotape
POWER- 2 x LEM130s at 36v, 4 x 3Ah Battlepacks
WEAPON 1- Ramming spikes
WEAPON 2- Small 5kg disc in the scoop, in a little indent. This is powered by an S28-150 Magmotor at 24v, since 36v fries it. Interchangeable with a 20mm titanium anti-spinner scoop without an indent for a drum, which also has a rear mace on a chain for some FBS action, baby, yeah!
SRIMECH - Invertible
SKIRTS- No
NOTES- The weapon bay could be interchangeable if I€™m sufficiently bored enough to create new weapons.
SUMMARY- Storm 2 with a proper, reasonably damaging weapon
STRENGTHS- Speed, ramming, active weapon
WEAKNESSES- Lack of skirts could leave sides open to agile flippers.
4. Hefty Kick in the Balls
SHAPE- Reminds of Cerberus in S3 or 4, I think. Tapered rear with front scoops.
COLOUR- Grey, with Scottish flag scoops.
WEIGHT- 100kg
LENGTH- (L) 78 cm without disc, 151cm including skirts and wheel pods, (W) 105cm without, (H) 23cm without disc, 76cm with disc.
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0 at front and skirts, 1cm everywhere else.
ARMOUR- 5mm titanium, 12mm titanium front
WHEELS- 2, interior wheels.
DRIVE- 2 x 36v Mag S28-400s
POWER- 4 x 36v Battlepacks
WEAPON 1- 75cm vertical disc, powered by two LEM130s at 36v, which spins at 2000rpm. Instant spin-up time.
WEAPON 2- Like you€™ll get past the first.
SRIMECH - None, though my driving, the skirts and the will ensure it doesn€™t get flipped. Actually it could possibly do an IG-88 due to the speed of the disc and the short length of the body.
SKIRTS- Side skirts, hinged.
NOTES- Should easily destroy a lot of bots and the scoops can both aid get under a lot of flippers and fend off other robots€™ weapons
SUMMARY- Destructive, indiscreet and designed to give the other bot a hefty kick in the balls!
STRENGTHS- Weapon, stylishness, and scoops
WEAKNESSES- Armour kinda sacrificed for extra weapon power.
5. Lunch Box
SHAPE- Sortof sculpted wedge
COLOUR- Grey, with Scottish flag flipper
WEIGHT- ~100 kg
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- Absolute 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0-5mm
ARMOUR- 5mm titanium
WHEELS- 4, inside
POWER- 2 x Mag S28-400€™s, driven by a worm gear reduction, then a chain, at 36v
WEAPON 1- Full Pressure front hinged flipper, powered by two big rams and two CO2 tanks. Going for the OOTAs baby, yeah :)
WEAPON 2- Secondary rear scoop
SRIMECH - But of course
SKIRTS- None, for manoeuvrability
NOTES- Inspired by Launch Pad, in both name and weapon depts.
SUMMARY- A mobile launching pad, going for OOTAs, front hinged style
STRENGTHS- Strong flipper, backed up by decent drive.
WEAKNESSES- Short fights are probable.
6. Glasgow Kiss
SHAPE- Weirdly shaped, see picture.
DIMENSIONS (LWH)- 86cm x 87cm x 22cm
COLOUR- Groovy tie dye effect, dude! Like someone€™s been painting the sports centre€¦
WEIGHT- 100kg
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0 at front, 1cm elsewhere.
ARMOUR- 5mm titanium. I can€™t weight check this, since Rhino doesn€™t like calculating the area of the body :proud:
WHEELS- 4, sellotape type
POWER- 2 x Mag S28-400€™s powered by 24v of 9Ah Nicads.
WEAPON 1- Double headed axe, powered by two pneumatic cylinders at 1000psi CO2 on a rack an pinion system
WEAPON 2-
SRIMECH - Of course, with the axe.
SKIRTS- None, due to curved sides.
NOTES- Each axe-head is different.
SUMMARY- A spiritual replacement of Axe Murderer.
STRENGTHS- That axe.
WEAKNESSES- Could be flipped by an agile flipper.

The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
1.Disco 5
2.The deer
3.Call out hook
4. Panicking
5.Take me out (no fights)
6.Gravity (newest version)
Name: Disco 5
Shape: Low Wedge with small rear wedge
Motivation: it now uses four storm 2 style Vulcalon wheels
Speed: 12.5 Mph
Weight: 100kg
Height: 300mm to top of body, 600mm to the top of the disc
Length: 1300mm
Width: 600mm
Weapon: 500mm Vert. flywheel @ 3000rpm. Has a 4.00 second spin up time due to the C40-500 Magmotor on 36v with a 2:1 twin tension cog belt reduction. The flywheel produces 31.5Kj€™s at maximum RPM but is lethal at around 1 second. The second weapon is also the srimech, this weapon is a low pressure pneumatic flipper running on 10Bar (145psi) running into a single 80mm bore ram. This produces 509kg at the ram and is then transferred into the flipper with a leverage point ratio of 1:1. This is a forward facing flipper like FireStorm and will have no problem toppling the heaviest of robots.
Chassis: 4mm Grade 5 Titanium monocoque with extra 5mm Titanium ribs to give it more rigidity.
Drive: 2 x S28-400 Magmotors @ 36v with a 10:1 Mod 2 spur gear reduction connected to two Kart Tyres.
Batteries: 90 x 3000mAh NiCD cells producing 36v @ 9amp
Color- the robot and skirts and flipper are blue and the disc is yellow
Clearance- it has 0mm at the front due to the wedge it has 0mm at the sides due to skirts its 6mm with out it also has a 0mm at the rear due to the small wedge which is there to replace the problem of the skirt being flipped into the disc. The skirts are NOT hinged and held down by torsion-springs so they shouldn€™t spring up and the rear one shouldn€™t go up into the disc
Notes- The flywheel is at the back off the robot it goes over the back of the wedge so if I can get a robot up the wedge far enough it will be hit by the disc. The skirts stop the robot landing on its side.
Achievements- as disco, 3rd seed in ajwars and undethed challenge belt holder in ajwars extreme 1-4 ajwars 3 8th seed, as disco 4, semi finalist of the lord of the ring tourney, WINNER OF THE LORD OF THE RING TOURNEY
NAME- The deer (was crusher chaos)
SHAPE- Invertible box
COLOR- the robot and claws are a dark green color
WEIGHT- 100kg
DIMENSIONS- 1m x 80cm x 25cm
SPEED- 15mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- It has 6mm at the front due to the claws and has 0mm at the sides and rear without skirts 6mm. The skirts also work both ways up.
ARMOUR- 3.6mm hardox
MOVEMENT- 4 inner wheels that make the robot invertible
POWER- 2 x S28 Magmotors on 24v.
WEAPONS- it has a front pair of horizontal hydraulic crushing claws set up like deers antlers like you fine in extreme destruction. The claws have 3.5 tones of crushing force on the front tips of the claws at the middle is 6tones and right at the back it has 8 tones of crush. The claws are powered by hydraulics through a 120mm bore rams at 3000psi
NOTES- invertible, wide base means I wont topple while the deer is crushing
STRENGTHS- Very powerful weapon
WEAKNESSES- it could be turned into venison
NAME- Call out hook (thanks to Matty. H for help with the weapon description)
SHAPE- low box wedge (like storm 2 but not invertible)
COLOUR- white
WEIGHT- 100kg
SPEED- 23mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0mm at front wedge, 0mm at sides due to skirts 6mm with out 6mm at rear, varies under weapons
ARMOUR- 4mm hardox
WHEELS- 6 inner Vulcalon wheels
POWER- 2 x S28-400€™s Magmotors on 24v.
WEAPONS- Weapon- On the top of the machine, there is a 360-degree rotating turret, on which can be mounted 2 weapons. The first one is a large CO2 powered lifting arm, running off a 80mm ram at a pressure of 750psi. It has a hook shaped arm on the end, which is designed to pull up and puncture wheels, whilst lifting at the same time, and also to enable it to penetrate skirts. This ought to lift around 268kg around 40cm into the air at maximum. The other weapon that can be chosen is a double-headed horizontal axe shaped like that of Terrorhurtz, which will spin around on the turret, enabling him to do both damage by spinning and hammering. This should be enough to cut thin titanium, and dent the thicker sheets. The turret is powered by a LEM 130 geared at 4:3 giving good speed it spins at around 2000rpm and reaches it in around 3-4seconds
SRIMECH- the lifting arm which can self right from any position due to the turret
STRENGTHS- good weapons, good pushing power
WEAKNESSES- if the arm is spinning round slowly it may topple
Name- Panicking (previously panic 3 GTI 2)
SHAPE- Low invertible box
COLOUR- Yellow except for the lifting forks which are black
WEIGHT- 98kg
DIMENSIONS- 65cm x 60cm x 15cm (Length x Width x Height)
SPEED- 23mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0 mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0 mm at front due to forks, 0 mm at sides and rear due to skirts 5 mm with out, the skirts are hinged so flop over when the robot is flipped
ARMOUR- 12mm polycarbonate
MOVEMENT- panic now uses 6 Vulcalon wheels to give extra pushing power
POWER- 2 x LEM130€™s on 36 volts
WEAPONS- on the front the robot has a pair of invertible lifting forks, the forks are like those on panic attack, the forks are powered by 2 linear actuators
STRENGTHS- Low ground clearance, reliable weapon
WEAKNESSES- previously lost to spinners
Record- 17-9
Name- Take me out (thanks to Dave for naming the robot for me)
SHAPE- Wedge
COLOUR- Dark grey
WEIGHT- 100kg
DIMENSIONS- Height: 20cm, Length: 80cm, Width: 65cm
SPEED- around 18mph
TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0mm at the front due to wedge extender, 5mm at sides and rear
ARMOUR- 4mm Aluminium Boron Carbite
MOVEMENT- 4 inner vulcalon wheels, it uses a skid steer system like tornado
DRIVE- 2 LEM 130€™S on 36 volts
BATTERIES- custom 3300mAh NiCad Cell 36v BotPack
WEAPONS- The robot has a 1000psi nitrogen flipper on a 80mm bore on a 100-stroke ram which should make around 3.5 tones at the ram (if I am incorrect please correct me) the nitrogen is stored in 2, 2.2kg canisters, the robot has around 25 flips in a fight, the flipper is on high pressure
STRENGTHS- Powerful weapon, good drive
WEAKNESSES- limited supply for the weapon

The armour on Orka MK4 has changed. It is now 7mm titanium, not 6mm steel. And the first three bots have magmotors
-
The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
Well take Biohazard, Voltronic or Shredderator in that order if available.
-
The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
Biohazard has been taken. Youre stuck with Voltronic.
Tom, please dont take this rudely, even if this IS coming from me, but dont you actually read whos already entered? It saves time.
-
The Norman Sheppard Tribute Tournament
Its impossible for me to keep up with everyones changing orders and people entering. Every time a new person enters and I have to reconsider, I also have to go recheck everyone elses entries too etc.
Its a fair enough complaint. My justification is the above and oversight (as proved by my missing of Razer the first time around.)
