24th-28th March - ROBOlympics
Hey guys - sorry to pester you - but its time to register for ROBOlympics 2005!
2005 is going to be much bigger and much better than 2004! We want more Europeans, so dont miss the big show!
Im still upholding my offer to waive combat entry fees for all people whod registered for the FRA world Championships. I know that airfare and stuff is expensive, but this is the place to test your metal AND see a lot of really cool robots.
[prepared text below...]
Hosted at San Francisco State University, this years event is now four days long and each event will have its own building! Thats right - robot combat it its own building - but soccer in another, Robo-One in another building, and so on!
Dont miss this years event! Last year we were covered by everyone from CNN and Wired to Radio Toyota and USA Today.
This is the only competition in the world where all major events come together. And this year weve added more! Build a Tetsujin Iron-Man or play Aibo Soccer - theres now 56 events in all!
http://www.robolympics.net/events.shtmlhttp://www.robolympics.net/events.shtml
If you never comepted before, join BuildersDataBase and sign up for the show - its a pretty quick process (yall should use it in Europe for your tournies...)
http://robolympics.net/registration.shtmlhttp://robolympics.net/registration.shtml
Id realy like to see more Super Heavys - US$3400 is a lot of dough! All cash prizes will be paid on site!
Feel free to email me with questions, and I look forward to seeing you at the big event!

Would be great if a few others were to visit as well.
Storm 2, Razer/Warhead etc?
-
24th-28th March - ROBOlympics
Hey Mike, I agree. I would love to see more of the big name and other awesome bot from the U.K. and Europe come to the states to PLAY...
But I understand the money and time issues!
Alas we can always hope for more bots!!!

An appeal: I cant go to the Robolympics in person but Ive entered a photovore (solar powered phototrope) as a run by proxy (I mail it to them and they put it in the arena and run it). Id like to enter the ribbon climb but there may be a bit too much setup to do it by proxy. So if anyone is going and would like to take part in a non combat challenge, please get in touch with me. Ill build the ribbon climber and mail it to SF so all you would need to do is operate it.

Ed - this is your chance to revenge Typhoon for the last RobotWars! We finally got to see the finals and thought you had him. Come on - Sewer Snake (aka Angry Asp) would really like the chance to face Storm II.

24th-28th March - ROBOlympics
I have just bought a new digital camcorder and am taking it across to the robolympics so hopefully I will get some good film and if we go up against megabyte, the camera will be rolling! :)

I think Typhoon 2 is currently 1-1, winning its first fight but losing to Slam Job by being flipped (see photos).
Typhoon Cadet is also 1-1 losing to VD3.3Hell Fire (my favourite bot) but beat knuckle duster.
I think its double elimination, so theyre both still in with a chance.
I hope Gary got the fights on film!

Typhoon is reported to be doing well which is good, show the U.S. that we are just as good.
As for RoboGames (USOC complained about the Olympics part and dispatched lawyers, might be wise to change this thread to RoboGames like all american forums have) theres already some videos through.

Go Gary :) (and the rest.....)
Interesting result - and a great one for the UK, particularly as the US teams seemed to almost dismiss it in discussion before the event, in posts on the RFL forum they were saying things such as...
people Ignore Typhoon 2 is because overall Megabyte is a better, more up to date robot, and the two robots that always beat it (Sewer Snake and SJ) are entered
....so its good to see Typhoon 2 sitting above Megabyte in the rankings :)
Well done guys, looking forward to seeing all the videos soon ! Hopefully well be able to get over to the US soon to take part in some events over there as well !

Typhoon 2 and the whole team represented the UK extremely well. Its too bad they had to forfeit the final fight because the weapon was not working - the shaft was bent so the shell would not spin.
We were really looking for to taking on the reigning UK champ in the finals. Hope some more UK bots can make it out next year - it was an awesome event!
Cheers to Typhoon 2 and the team!

24th-28th March - ROBOlympics
well guys, still in the states, doing a bit of site seeing! :)
We did lose to SJ however due to it being a dual elimination tournament, we were still able to fight on.
We won all fights, faced SJ again and tore out their back wheels. We then faced megabyte. One spin up by both and we came together. We took a large dent to the weapon ring which stopped the cone from spinning. Megabyte lost all mobility and weapons and hense we won the battle.
As Matt said our central shaft was bent and the weapon was not repairable in the 40 minutes we were given so we decided to forfeit the final.
It was a fantastic event and well done to all involved however I must announce here that this was typhoon 2s last tournament. We are retiring the robot.
And boy have I got some good videos!!! :)

Anybody know how Team Tanto did? I see they were registered with an ant, an R/C sumo and 2 heavies.
Im well impressed that Typhoon 2 beat Megabyte, it really shows the quality of uk bots.
Is there going to be a new Typhoon Gary?
-
24th-28th March - ROBOlympics

tanto wasnt there. Craig couldnt make it.
No more heavyweights planned, we are unsure if we will repair typhoon 2 or leave it as is however some of the parts will be taken out and used in feathers, hmmm feathers with 2 x 3hp mags for drive :)
-
24th-28th March - ROBOlympics
A Tanto Typhoon final would have been very cool (however unlikely) but never mind.
I look forward to seeing team typhoons new feathers.
Videos of Typhoon and Typhoon cadet are currently being hosted by a group I just set-up: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Robogames_videos/files/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Robogames_videos/files/

Im collecting them together and putting them on the XFM server that serves the FRA Forum and other bits, plenty of space and no bandwidth limitations.

Typhoon 2 qualified for the 2005 RFL National with their performance at Robogames! I know they talked about retiring the bot after RG, but maybe you all can talk them into rebuilding for the Nationals. I clearly am a glutton for punishment.
Event will be back at Ft. Mason (where RobotWars started in 1994.) TENTATIVE dates are 3/24/2006 through 3/26/2006, but dont book your flights until I confirm the venue.
