Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
HI Guys,
Preston was a large experiment between, Roaming Robots, an entertainment company, and a promoter, and clearly worked.
There for we feel we can now offer a €œWinter Tour€Â
Exactly the same as Preston with a few tweaks.
6 large venues
All weights
Heavyweight, Featherweight and Antweight arena€™s.
Possibly through - September, October, November, and December
All 2 day events ( 4/5 shows per event )
Appearance, travel, and accomodation fees paid.
Plus, strong possibility of a big meal / party, Saturday nights Social side will be very important. We want it to be fun, and a great experience for all !!!
Major arena improvements, and a friendly competition running throughout the 6 venues, leading to a large scale final.
We have talked about venue selections, and while it is all flexible at the moment, we feel Glasgow would be a very positive move for the sport, for one city at least.
I am after potential roboteers which would be interested in participating in this exciting competition and any suggestions welcome.
We need to move quite fast as venues and dates need to be secured ASAP.
Thanks
Jonno

Would this be like a venue per weekend (e.g- we go back to our various homes during some weeks...)??? I like the sound of this, but travel to all these different places, even with fees covered, would be quite hard...
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Oh, and how much is appearence fees... I like the sound of that :)
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
one every 3 weeks is more like it.

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Very keen to do this, but knowing venues, dates etc well in advance would make ensuring time off work a bit easier etc.
Are you looking for an on-going competition which would require same people at all venues or realy just a group of events under one name, or perhaps a league ?
Like the sound of Glasgow. (even willing to offer my living room if no other venue is free - though its a new carpet so Mute cant come!)
A flat appearance fee would be a big incentive.
More great trophies like preston would be nice.
Roger.

Had chat...Yes well be there!

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
I would very much like to take part, I can probably bring one of the heavyweights along, certainly a featherweight if all else fails.
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Hi Jonno,
if this goes ahead, a suggestion would be a winter tour championship just to get people signing up for the duration.
I would very much like to sign up a heavyweight and 2 featherweights, with 3-4 more featherweights 95% sure to come along with me as at Preston.
Just 2 questions.....
is Mike Lambert organizing the accomodation (if so, keep that party away from out room)
is the appearance fee the same for feathers and heavies? this would be a positive step forward if it was.

havent spoken to the team but Im in charge anyway so well be there Jonno
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Jonno, my initial reaction is that Im all for it, though thats subject to discussion with the rest of the team. Im sure Ill be able to persuade them though.
Geoff, on Sunday you said Preston was the furthest north you were going to go. Have you checked your map lately cause I think youll find Glasgow is quite a bit further up :).

Im definatly interested but it just depends on where the events are and if I can get to them. So really depends on dates and places, cant say until specific details are given.
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Yeh, I know Richard..But for a series of events potentialy this good, Im prepared to change my mind!!:proud:
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Just a little bit more info - if you think Preston was big with 1500 people and good lighting and music and special effects - some of these other venues are like 3000 people per show. Cant say anymore  but it if goes ahead as planned, should be something quite special!

I like the sound of it so far, need to know more details first but with 2-3 weeks between each show it gives time to fix damage, damage doesnt quite sound right, polish out scratchs. Yep that sounds better.
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Mute and Micro Mute 2 will definately be up for this one.
2-3 weeks between shows sounds good, give us time to get over the hangover and lack off sleep.

Still not a spinner in sight!
Isnt it about time you did something about this Jonno? I know it raises all sorts of issues for you but youre still excluding a whole section of the community without even making it part of your rules.
I still say there are big returns as regards to the show for any competition that goes full combat, and the returns are going to get bigger as time goes on.
Just a thought

Big yellow bot seems to be the common name for it now, but Id still prefer Serrano if possible.

youve got half-wit, the other feather is called whiplash.

Hey Sam, How are you feeling mate?
We are there!! OK we cant run it, but we are there!! Saying that, we would love to run Scorpion in full combat trim, but until such time as we can, we will still come to these events because its FUN and its all good practice!
Geoff.

Sam,
Spinners and events every three weeks dont mix.
If someone wants to give me some cash to build three Mutes then Ill fight spinners at live events, otherwise no chance. Id rather go to every live event and have fun in the arena instead missing the events cos Im fixing Mute in the workshop.
Comments welcome - just dont start a debate again :0

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Sam, As you problably found out, not that many spinners are going to the full combat events this year anyway :) As Daniel said, there is a limit to how much money you can put into fighting spinners ever other week. Im sure you can see that. Its not a dig at bigger weapons but say that our crusher was powerful enough to do you serious damage, would you fight us week after week if we put holes in your speed controllers every time? :) There will come a point where you will either refuse to fight us or not have enough money or time to fix it and miss out on other events.
Having said that as we dont really know what will happen when we fight a spinner we are entering the full combat ones anyway to find out. We do need an incentive to fight the more distructive robots in full combat (such as large prize money, apperance fees) and the other events are just for FUN.
Ask me again in a few weeks. I should know better by then.

Ewans featherweight= Micro-Maul evo :)

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Hey.. I wasnt looking for a fight believe me, Im not in much of a state to be fighting at the mo, being the original hop along man
Spinners in live events and the issues they raise for both the organisers and the roboteers has been I think done to death.
However
I dont think that theres any question that Jonno and co could if they so wished set themselves up to house spinners at this point, so the old reasons of safety, and after that damage, and even to some extent prize funds are probably no longer valid in this instance (I may be wrong obviously!)
So in effect what has happened is that spinners have been banned, wholesale from the majority of events across the uk and the reason for this is?
Well simply that when any event organiser suggests letting them in, theres almost invariably a shitstorm of protest from the roboteers themselves!
I just think its time this was explained simply to the people who have already built spinners, or are thinking of doing so.. and that really and truly any event that is saying no spinners should fess up, and put it very specifically into their rules that rotational energy weapons are not allowed.
Itll make things clear for those who still harbour dwindling hope that one day the spinners will be able to play at all events at least.
Anyway
Back to my sofa me thinks..

Having built a spinner. And been trashed by a couple of spinners (supernova & Matilda) I have to say that Im not in favour of spinners at live events. Its just to expensive.
My new robot is still going to have a spinner in the vane hope that series 8 will go ahead. But Im also looking at other weapons to fit the same body so that I can take part in friendly competition at live events.

Sam,
Revolution 3 has a lovely disk, but never use it, and just play around with other things - just as much fun - only want to do a couple of full contacts a year, more than enough.
P.S. Best wishes + speedy recovery.
Jim,
Hope serrano is O.K., and only cosmeticaly damaged - Good to have been in ring with you.
P.S. Big Yellow Bot is quite descriptive though.
Roger.

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Theres no such thing as a friendly competition, its either a competition, or its not.
If its a competition without spinners then so be it, but at least lets make that clear please.
As to how are my blisters ouch and ouch spring to mind
P.S Thanks for the thought :)

When asked by builders phoning Technobots about the future and especially where they can run their spinner, my response is that it is moving in that direction. Okay, not at every event but with the apparent demise of RW, the situation requires reviewing.
Many of our robots were designed for a once a year bash with spinners. I am now considering the next design of M2 with more consideration given to armour that has the potential to cope better with spinners on a more regular basis. After the recent concern over some (note some and not by a long way all) spinners continuing after immobilising their opponent, this has encouraged my change of view if you get my drift.

The flipper plates a write-off but everything else is OK, wed have driven out if the aerial hadnt fallen off. Unfortunately Big Yellow Bot doesnt fit in with the naming scheme, and youve got to have a system, as Harry Hill says.

Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Id likie to be part of the winter tour with my first ever robot the antweight Bite Me.
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Didnt mean to pick a fight Sam. Everyone already knows our veiws. I do think that it is dissapointing for the orgainsers when they put on a full combat event and dont get as many distructive weapons as theyd like but then again you already know that. I think Ill just shut up now.
Just one more point. Doesnt really matter as we considered Preston a fun event but we were judged to have lost our first fight to Bulldog Bread. We had our Jaws inside both Bulldog bread and EWE2 during this fight and could have used our crusher but didnt. If we did we would have probably won as in a real competition we would not have let go so quickly. It may have been boaring to watch but we would have won (Maybe), So we let go quickly and continue with a more impressive looking fight.
Ill shut up now (honest) :)
*mum shouts in back ground* Its past your bed time.

We have never shunned fighting spinners but you do have to build for it !!I for one always have to know, whos the best no matter what the weapon,
but I have to concede fighting spinners regularly
has it down sides!!!!!!!!!,in fact spinners dont usually get the driving/fighting practise the rest of us do ,so there is a small advantage
for the rest of us,but it has to be said that it is er interesting when activate is called and a smoky
noisey,35kg 1500rpm disc driven by a petrol engine
heads your way with one thought in mind!!(tip!top)!!!!!!
brown adrenalin, and all that,
-
Roaming Robots, Winter Tour
Tell me about it Tony
Still I think its well known that I consider the brown trousers situation to all be part and parcel of what we do.
Dont worry Mark, I wasnt taking offence.. Ive gone passed the stage of getting annoyed about this stuff and just accept that some people dont consider it part of the sport. I just think that should be a little clearer from the outset.
Anyway
