Bulldog Breed
Yes, that's right, the dog is back
Spent about an hour with tony today going through a full gas up, quizzed me to within an inch of my life on pneumatics and safety and he felt I was safe to take and run Bulldog Breed
Is fully working in its current state, but just needs to a RX and TX conversion along with a flap made for the link etc as you currently need to take the whole plate off top get too the link and gas up
will keep updated with pics etc when work happens

Re: Bulldog Breed

Re: Bulldog Breed
Well done Matt :) It looks great.

Re: Bulldog Breed
is it me or does the logo on the robot read BULLDOC BREED ? lol
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
He's changed the front end from the last one.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
BB has remained unchanged since 2006
Still need to do the RX and TX conversion which is a shame as the 40mhz system works perfectly, I honestly can't understand why it needs changing but don't want to turn up too an event without it coming under the current rules
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
if you were around when everyone used fm you'd understand
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Correction: it has a different front end to when it was last on RW.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
At least its a Roboteq ESC so fitting a 2.4GHz setup won't cause any problems.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Charged all my batteries, going for a full drive and pneumatics test on 40mhz today
going to test the whole system make make sure its all fine before I take the old system out, but ill go for a spektrum set before I go for the conversion
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Wow Matt, good to see Bulldog Breed is still with us today and will be coming back out of retirement, I think 2012 could be the year for robots coming out of retirement.
Steel Avenger
Mr Nasty
X-Terminator
SMIDSY
and now Bulldog Breed :)
U coming to Guildford this year BTW?
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
When is that event this year?
Good news, the tests went perfectly, the whole drive and pneumatics work fantastically
Its so nice to drive though, very smooth and responsive, does some nice matilda style bucks too, that might become its new thing
The pneumatics are awesome aswell, only run on a bottle about half full of gas so it was not on its full pressure but still had some force behind it, threw a kart wheel about 15ft behind it just as something to flip and onto my parents car, she wasnt happy

Re: Bulldog Breed
annoyingly no, its the day before my last gcse exam, you can see how annoying that is for me, been wanting too do that event for a while now but things around that time keep stopping me

Re: Bulldog Breed
What drive motors has it got?
Just noticed the terminal connecting the motor, I thought they were only good for 60a?
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Using the good old bosch 750's for drive
the blocks have been in this version of BB since 06, never been a problem and never melted so should be fine, they only start melting at excessive current, so ive got no problems with it. tony knew what he was doing when he built it :)
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
I would deffo pull them out, its not just the current rating, they have a habit of coming loose, and that creates a high resistence joint which will get hot and melt the plastic. For the sake of a tenners worth of andersons I wouldn't risk it.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
what amp andersons would you say?
I would need 8 of them really, 4 for each side
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
the smaller 50amp ones will be fine.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Had a full test of Bulldog Breed monday, did a little video for everyone too see :proud:

Re: Bulldog Breed
What's the black stuff on the front left (as you from the front)? Looked like stuff was missing there. And is that gaffa tape on the flipper?
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
That's just mud from me driving too close too the grass. The tape was to keep a section of hdpe on to protect the drive, yet the first flip it flew off so we just went on without it
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Thats your driveway ? Big driveway :P
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Haha, I wish, is a friend of ours who lives down the road, large expands away from people so perfect for testing robots
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Done the conversion over to 2.4ghz today on the fubuta gear and Bulldog Breed is now up too date with the current rules so is fighting legal, watch out
Still keeping the antenna though as they just look awesome
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
I was actually thinking that it looks cool, I would have kept the two Aerials !!
Quite fancy adding a couple to ripper just to look cool !
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
I know its all running on 2.4ghz now, but it looks old school and everyone knows that old school is awesome
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Fixed the tyres on Bulldog yesterday, gave everything a clean and its now all ready for Guildford!
Hope too get at least one robot over the other side of the arena but shall wait and see

Re: Bulldog Breed
Back and unloaded after what I consider a successful event
First fight my dump valve got left open slightly so it wasnt firing the rams but was a good combat test, got a great battle scar from scorpion as his axe went satraight through my Ti plate
Second fight was the most sucessful and im now confident that it drives, flips and can flip other robots as well as self-right
Sadly I only got in 2 fights with bulldog as wires on my Roboteq came loose and it was too much brain surgery too do before the last fight but was still a great day
I now know how too improve bulldog in terms of reliability as well as rationalising the wiring
Massive thanks too Mike Lambert, Jonny and the terminal forocity team for trying too get bulldog going again but thanks too you all I now know exactly what must be done
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
get rid of all the rubbish and just have the roboteq going into rx (using official lead) and valves controlled by a rc switch
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Thats a nightmare.
Whats the purpose of all the wee beasties next to the gyro? I'd go with Jonny, strip it out and go Roboteq=>rx with a real lead and from the Roboteq straight into the motors and have a couple of battleswitches for weapon control. If you really want a gyro get it working first then plug the gyro back in.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
I think it needs a bit of an overhaul, may still be good tech but was built when some stuff wasnt avalible.
Have too figure out how I would wire it before I go buying things but the black thing is a little 2a relay but god knows what its for
Would like too keep the gyro but need too figure out how its all wired and works first
Think I need:
New roboteq plug
Battle switch
New Bec
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
Why do you need a BEC, the Roboteq has one built in? Don't bother with a gyro, you shouldn't need one.
Be careful with battleswitches, they have a habit of mis-firing.
-
Re: Bulldog Breed
What would you recommend?
Im open for opinions on what people think needs doing, adding and taking out etc. Know it needs some rationalising but not quite sure what should stay and go
also, anyone got a clue too what the circuit is in the ali box? Forgot too ask and cant figure it out
