So this is one of my heavy designs for Sabretooth, tweaked and resurrected, now to be built as a feather, using a lot of Gimson items!
Coolafe g-rafe
so this is what it will be made of
Body
10mm aluminium plate
10mm HDPE sheet
110mm electrofusion tee
Drive
Gimsons 14.4 v and wheels
Sabretooth speed controller
Weapon
Saw driven by a brushless motor, just sourcing a non hardened blade.
interchangeable
18v drill
both weapons moved by a Gimson actuator (will be ordering soon Ewan, I have asked my wife to get them for my Birthday present
Grabbing self righting claw, driven by another Gimson actuator
Battery
Turnigy 5000mAh 5S 20C Lipo Pack 18v
sounds awesome, good luck getting that effective and in weight
Its only 310mm long and 250mm wide so i reckon it should be fine, we will see, looking right on weight at the moment.
have you started any construction yet
I am just amassing the parts I have the motors and wheels, speed controller, the rest is coming next week. I am cleaning out the workshop (not touched since last series of robot wars). Then I will start with a mdf prototype to test the drive and self righting. I'm off to the alps end of next week so work will begin in earnest beginning of Feb. I will start posting some of the wooden constructions for feedback.
Parts so far
cool, is the big black t shaped thing a peice of drainpipe
its a piece of hdpe waterpipe, freshwater rather than drain, it will be welded to the other bits on orderQuote:

the stuff Gabe has is more akin to sewage pipe, its designed to be underground under a few hundred kilos of dirt, much more resilliant than drain pipe, which is just a thin plastic job just designed for some rain :P
Plus it's hdpe waterpipe, and we all know how well that performs in the arena, particularly as armour.
Exactly Dave :)Quote:

i think its a great idea
mdf Prototype
es muy intresante
c'est tres interessante
das ist ziemlich interessant
intressant en effet
Lo que est¡s construyendo es muy extra±o pero es precisamente por eso que me encanta!
In ned/chav Scottish: aww that's pure f*****' ment'al maaan!
I'm struggling to picture how it will look when completed with weapons, but so far it's great. Very compact (which I like) and has an intriguing, unique shape to it.
Have you got an completion date target for it? Would be great to see it at the UK Champs (April sometime I think) :)
I will aim for end of March in that case, all the MDF will be 10mm HDPE with aluminium plating the two raised bits with the holes are the claw mounts, which I'm working on know. It will also have acid etching detail on the aluminium parts. The centre part will house the interchangeable weapon space
Cant wait to see it finished :)
with ramp
ramp and claws
how is the drive going to work? are the motors off set from each side and is it 4wd?
4 wheel drive, with one motor each side offset
Looks really interesting :D
Aluminium, hdpe, drill Weapon(posh), ordered
after a supplier of hardox
and waiting for Ewan to get some actuators in stock
then i can start the build.
Is it the 100mm's you're after? They should hopefully be back in stock in 10 days, along with 150mm's and 200mm's. Looking forward to seeing how the drill weapon works out, done effectively I'm sure one could eat through a few of the plastic machines.
Hi I was after the 100mm's but now you have mentioned others, I maybe interested in them, could i get the specs for the others i.e. length when retracted and when fully extended, I imagine widths etc will be the same as the others.Quote:

Thank you Ewan, does this diagram just show the 50mm stroke or the 100 as well, i maybe being thick :). are the others of a similar size, I reckon i might like the 200 one.
I'm after a TX RX system, that two people can use, pistol grip for drive, hopefully plugged into a conventional stick for the weapons, any ideas?
the TX RX is also posted in the pistol grip thread, repeated here as its part of the construction diary :)
It applies to all of them, just replace 'S' with the stroke length. the 150mm and 200mm are the same style as well.
Not entirely sure about combining two transmitters, not something I've done before but I'm sure there'll be someone else on the forum who's attempted it, good luck!
thank you
As far as I'm aware, Dave Moulds runs his featherweight 360 with two transmitters. He uses a pistol-grip for the drive and has a DX7 (I think) connected via a lead with Kenny controlling the disc and self-righting arm. I'm sure if he sees this he'll provide more informative comments, but that's as much as I can offer I'm afraid.
