12th to 14th of January 2012 -Mechatrons RoD Dublin, Ireland

We are on. Mechatrons will be presenting Robots of Destruction again in Dublin.

Exactly the same deal as last year but the format will be very slightly tweaked. We will still cover ferry and hotel though. Only heavyweights and mechs/boxers required i.e. no featherweights. As always, priority will be given to teams with multiple bots.

We are looking for something new to add to the show so if you have anything interesting let me know.

You must fill out at least two forms. The first is for the Team information and the second for is to be filled out for each robot you are bringing.

I am running a small competition for the exhibition guide book.

Whoever can write the best blurb about our show for the guide book will get a goodie bag and get their words in print.The competition is only open to people who have seen our show previously but it does not matter if you are coming this time or not (I will mail the goodies to the winner if you are not coming).

The blurb should be between 200 and 300 words and should make people want to come to see the show even if they have seen it before.

Remember, if you don't make the sponsored list, you can still attend if you can make your own way over. Also, its cheap to fly in by Ryanair so if you want to just see what its like, why not just pop over for the day? Free entry passes to all FRA members.

out of interest are there any different robots going this year that didnt go last year??? seems the same robots go every year. which made the applications pretty pointless.

Ripper beat Kronic who self destructed, alan forgot to put nuts on
Beast beat Merlin whos bungee broke but got a puncture.. still drove though on a flat tyre
Beast beat Iron Awe 6 who had no flipper

Ripper played with Beast in the last fight of the day, JL says we were testing Beasts self righting !!

Glad you all had fun, Both the new Beast and the rebuilt Kronic seem to perform very well, just one question were any robots there not flippers? :proud:

I think the reason they're all flippers (and the reason Thor was not invited back) was because they have so many shows to run during the weekend they can't afford robots actually doing any severe damage, hence they are all passive flippers.

I know all this, you know this, but fact is they had to keep a show going and they would not make much of a show if only half the drive worked or the weapons were kaput. I can totally see where the organisers are coming from even if I am not too fond of the idea.

For those that didn't get invited to Dublin I would just like to say that it's mostly a simple matter of econonoics.
The ferry alone costs 380 Euros per vehicle (then there's the hotel etc as well), if someone wants to enter one bot it costs all that to have just that one machine.
If someone else can bring two, three, or even four robots the cost per machine goes down dramatically, they are much more likely to get selected.
It also has to be said that robot track record and reliability probably make a difference too.
Moral: bulid more bots, try again!
